Sometimes when you plan a wedding date, you don't really bother to check to see if NATO is going to be holding a big meeting in your city. That may have to be part of the planning from now on because this bride in Chicago was trying to take wedding photos when a huge protest got in the way.

Given my wedding plans for September, this is somewhat relevant. Thanks for giving me one more wild variable to ponder.
I realize it's her wedding day, but by time these were taken, she should have been aware of what was happening and made alternative arrangements for photos.
She should look at it this way: she's got one hell of an anecdote to tell now, and people are going to find this bit a lot more fascinating in years to come than how the bridesmaids were dressed, etc. (Did anyone in the protest march wave & yell "Congratulations!" to the happy couple? I would have if I'd been there...)
It looks like she got married in that church that is right in the heart of Michigan Avenue. That sucks for her. But if that's the worst thing to ever happen to her, she's a lucky woman.
Ok people, here is the truth, NOT the media spin.
The amazing Chicago wedding photographer, Jai Girard, suggested this photo shoot to her clients. They went looking for cops and protestors to pose by BEFORE the wedding.
No doubt the photographer selling the photos of Jai shooting her clients or the media themselves made up a "Wedding Crashers" story for their own reasons.
If you are a bride looking for a photographer, Jai's work is like no other's.

The only story I've heard is that they went out to shoot photos as the protestors were passing.
It's interesting that it was planned that way because the bride seems about to kick into Bridezilla mode.
@chopchop - they are standing on LaSalle, right in front of CBOT... there are plenty of churches/non-churches they could have gotten married at.

I've worked with Jai and her Mom, Jennifer for more years than I can remember +15. They both were tops. From this short clip, it looks like they are walking into the Rookery Building by Frank Lloyd Wright or back to a car/limo parked on Quincy St.This was done on purpose for some editorial shorts, Jai never did the posed/traditional stuff.
Riiiiight. It's the bride's fault for not anticipating and avoiding a bunch of jackholes throwing a tantrum in the street.
My original weddings plans were to get married in Centre Block on Parliament Hill (Ottawa, Canada). Then Ottawa hosted a G8 summit and some global bank summit and I got a little antsy. Then former PM Pierre Trudeau died and his body was lain in state in Centre Block. I got really uneasy and I called the accommodations manager to say I had changed my mind. He told me he had to call a bride two days before her scheduled wedding to tell her she couldn't get married there. Then September 11th happened and you can no longer drive up onto Parliament Hill. It made my decision easier.
The moral of the story, these things happen and you need to plan. You know your city is hosting something that big, make other arrangements.
@Amartel, it's not her fault but seriously, make other arrangements. Like someone else said, it's been playing on the news endlessly.
I live in Chicago as well, and unless the actual church she got married in was on the protestors' route (no bride or groom are going to switch CHURCHES for their wedding day, come on. It doesn't exactly work like that), then she's either an idiot who should've planned better or it was done on purpose as someone above stated. The protestors were a pain in the ASS this weekend (and still are as I speak), but they were only on a few big thoroughfares (Michigan Ave., LaSalle, State St.). Lots of the area was perfectly clear of protestors and everyone with half a brain is aware of that, so whatever.
They should have come to the West Loop no protestors at all!!!
The wedding was at the Waldorf Astoria (formerly Elysian) AFTER the photos were taken. There are great shots of the wedding party posing with Chicago cops before the protesters walked by. The photo that went global is of a photog taking a shot of Jai Girard taking her money shot.
They went specifically to that location BEFORE the wedding to get the shot.
Jai loves taking crazy shots like this and it's great she's getting attention, but please don't assume the bride was uniformed and didn't move her wedding location.
@ Aly - awwww, as a Chicagoan, you should know that the Rookery is a Burnhman and Root design. Burnhman and Root are what made Chicago what it is today. Come on now! FLW only did a tiny bit of lobby redesign.
See this why Vegas is the way to go! It's cheap, fast, and everything is done in one spot.
