@Anita: You're on to something w/the low heels; I think Zooey's dress would have looked better w/flat, light-colored shoes and either matching sheer tights or bare legs; the black tights w/a light dress seems terribly heavy and out-of-balance.

Zooey has said that black tights are her "security blanket". There are a lot of pics with her wearing them. Personally I don't think she has the greatest legs so black tights would sort of disguise them in a way.

I love tights too, but not in May. And not with a light-coloured dress. If she doesn't like her legs, don't wear a short skirt. The tights are horrific with that dress because it's off-balance.

@Astrogirl, I disagree. Sheer hose with a shimmer (and a sandal toe) can be worn with open toe shoes or sandals during the cooler, warm weather months. I live in a cold climate and I lose it when I see women with bare legs in December and January.

Although there are sheer hose with no toes, (there is a hole you poke your toes through available). Then you can get away with it.
No, it's not tacky. Between November and March, you look ridiculous with bare legs (unless you live in a hot climate). Hose come with two toe-types, sandalfoot and reinforced. Sheer, shimmer hose are gorgeous and flatter the leg amazingly. If you go to a formal event in December, you can wear them and sandals. And I don't mean just any sandal.

I guess if opaque tights are ok with peeptoe these days, sheer with no toe seam might work. Nothing too strappy though.
And it's only good in metallics. Shimmery gold nylons works with gold sandals (or silver maybe) but not with black.
I work in an office and I only wear skirts. Come April, I put away the dark tights but my pale legs aren't ready for the light of day. I love hosiery. But I just found the best self-tanner and applied it properly so my legs are ready for the harsh light of day.

Yes. I have a pair in my drawer but I haven't worn them in a long time. I don't really have anything right now that works with them.

@Denise, St. Tropez foam and I bought the mitt. Buy the mitt!!!! Plus check out the application videos for it on YouTube. I love product, am very much a beauty do-it-yourselfer but I am terrible with self-tanners. Not this stuff. My legs aren't bronze but they don't have that gross blue/white hue they normally have. I'm sure another coat would bronze me up a bit.

Oh my god, the Zoey dress is from the Moschino Fall 2012 collection. I bought the ORIGINAL and better version in 2009! Moschino copied the dress.

Zooey is in LA where the average temperature is 70F year round. Now it is in the mid-80s. I think anyone could go hose less in that temp.
Why would anyone in a cold climate being wearing sandles in the snow anyway? If your feet are cold, COVER them up! Wear closed toe shoes. That's what the are for.
