Today's Blind Items - The Perv

This Academy Award nominee/winner for acting is probably a B-/C+ lister. I know that you get to be a permanent B lister if you win, but this was a long time ago, plus, maybe he did not win. It was a great movie he was nominated for though. One of the more powerful movies of the past 30 years, although it really did get screwed over. Anyway, our actor has been married forever. At this point, it actually does seem like forever. He was always very careful about how he cheated on his wife. Back when they were first married he was clumsy about how he cheated, but he perfected away that many actors use to this day. Actors today are a little more clumsy about it and are more forward. Our actor did a lot of theatre and would rent a studio or a theatre for the day and have a casting announcement posted which would say that there was this great part and offer lots of money and only beautiful women of a certain age needed to show up. On the day of the audition, our actor would be there and his eyes would be wandering over every inch of every woman's body and then the casting director would talk to the actor and make notes and walk down the line and say yes or no to to all the women. The yes women were then ushered to a room for two minutes alone with the actor. Depending on their answers, they would either get to go to dinner with the actor or would be sent home. At the end of an hour or two, the actor would have five or six women who would be willing to have sex with him and would keep him happy for a few months until he would start the whole process again.

Please, not Sam Waterston for The Killing Fields. I love him.

Edward Norton, American X. Nominated, but did not win for best actor.

Married for 7 years, which is "forever" in Hollywood terms.

Did Off-Broady way theater in his past.

Ben Kingsley. May be totally off base but that's the name that came to mind re: Gandhi

I I think Derek got it, but just for sh*ts Ed Harris, Pollok.

Or Stephen Rhea, Crying Game.

Sam waterson been married since 1976. Killing fields was released in 1984.

@janele Edward norton still A-list in my eyes.

Jenkins was never nominated for Hannah and Her Sisters; FYI.

Danny Aiello-Spike Lee's DO THE RIGHT THING married since 1955

DewieTheBear said...

Richard Jenkins had a tiny role in Hannah and Her Sisters, but it was Michael Caine nominated (and winning) for Supporting. Jenkins was nominated for The Visitor in the lead category.

I'm still chuckling about the "2 minutes" thing. Did he claim that he was in the pool or what?
On a positive note, maybe that's why he's a 30 yrs ago actor.

Jeremy Irons.

Andre Braugher. Glory was the movie. "of a certain age"

AKM said...

When I think of a great movie in the past 30 years that got screwed over, I think of THE COLOR PURPLE. So I first thought of Danny Glover, but he has never been nominated for an Academy Award.

So...crap. Got nothin' else.

How come this dude is labeled a perv? I got my hopes up and there was no kink, no glass bottom boats, no pulling out his junk to the surprise of a chick trying to audition. Just an opportunistic dude trying to find opportunistic ho's to lay some pipe in.

When I hear "movie got screwed over that year at the Oscars" the two movies whose partisans never stopped whining about how they got robbed are "Pulp Fiction" (Weinsteins robbed by Forrest Gump) and "Saving Private Ryan" (Weinsteins' "Shakespeare in Love" stole the BP Oscar from Spielberg).

Or so the arguments go. I like "Forrest Gump" and "Shakespeare in Love". I wish the whiners would finally shut up & get over it.

DewieTheBear said...

@lazy, some would say Goodfellas losing to Dances with Wolves is up there too. I'd add Titantic over L.A. Confidential, myself.

Some mistakes become more pronounced with time; I think certain grousing is justified.

Or William H. Macy

@Count, agreed--this guy isn't a perv, just a cheater.

Someone put down their copy of Peyton Place to write this, don't be too hard on them. Perv is in the eye of the beholder, right?

I wouldn't be too quick to use the term 'hard' if I were you.

Goodfellas losing out to Dances with Wolves STILL chaps my ass.

No idea who this is, btw.

With all the tweener sex blinds I thought this blind titled "The Perv" would be Enty finally coming clean about his obsession with teen starlets.

Tom Hanks

I'm hoping this is George Kennedy (won for Cool Hand Luke), but it's probably Ed Harris (Apollo 13) - the most amazing thing in his career is that he wasn't even nominated for The Right Stuff, which is another all-time Oscars screw job.

Swanky said...

DO THE RIGHT THING has to be the movie so I will second Danny Aiello

Oh man you guys have stirred up my anger all over again! Especially Dances with Wolves.

If I come back to this site tomorrow, you can call me Two Socks . . .

Tim Roth? Married since early 90s....Known for theater work...Got many kudos for his theater adaption/portrayal of Kakfas Metamorphosis. Nominated for Supp Actor.

Joe Pesci? Raging Bull screwed over in favor of Ordinary People.

@ Vera - I know! And Mary McDonnell's hair in DWW--WTF were they thinking???

the most amazing thing in his career is that he wasn't even nominated for The Right Stuff, which is another all-time Oscars screw job.

@ Mark - At the very least this stupid blind has reminded me of some incredible movies/performances that I need to revisit. And you're right; Ed Harris was AMAZING as John Glenn.

And re the blind, if it weren't for the "Our actor did a lot of theatre" clue, I'd guess Denzel, but AFAIK he doesn't do theatre, so I got nothin'.

auntliddy said...

Robert deniro is well known for this.

tulsa70s said...

Tim Robbins/Shawshank

Rosemary Young said...

I wanted this to be Willem Defoe & "Last Temptation of Christ," but the clues don't fit (he was Oscar-nominated, but for other movies).
Not DeNiro; he's permanent A-list.
I'm liking (but saddened by) the Danny Aiello guess. Married since 1955. Did Broadway. Movie he was Oscar-nominated for ("Do the Right Thing") released in 1989 (the "past 30 years" clue suggests it's a movie from the '80s; lost Best Picture to "Driving Miss Daisy." WTF?!
@ 7of11: Peyton Place. LOL!

Molly McButter said...

God, I hope this isn't deniro. I wouldn't grade him that low but he has been in a bunch of stinkers, and goodfellas did get screwed.

Isn't this the movie 'Audition'...?

Kevin Kline
Was in,
Sophie's Choice(I can't watch it without crying) which only won 1award, (Meryl, best actress) it even lost out best wardrobe to Ghandi, who wore what amounted to a bed sheet for goodness sake.

Married to Phoebe Cates for a very long time.

Kevin does theater.

Hegg said...

Kevin Kline? I was thinking as well.
Ed norton is not a perv and prefers women who aren't quite a bit younger than him.

trudi said...

Kevin Klein wasn't nominated for Sophie's Choice.

Alice Tate said...

Kevin Kline won for Fish Called Wanda. I think Danny Aiello fits best.

Kay B said...

What gets me is how eerily this blind matches the movie, "Audition." I just hope it doesn't have an ending anywhere close to that of the movie!

Best guess here is Ed Harris.
Married since 1983.
"Apollo 13" went 2 for 9 in the Oscars, with no nomination for Ron Howard.
Does a lot of stage work.

figgy said...

@AKM, that's EXACTLY what I thought! The Color Purple was so notoriously screwed over, and the only actor I can think of from that is Danny Glover. But you're right, he's never been nominated, which is a shame, he's great.

Jenn said...

Ahh, dammit, that's right, Trudi, he was nominated for a Golden Globe. I thought I'd finally figured one out.
I don't have any idea.
