Nikki Blonsky Working A Hair Salon

The first person to play Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray, Ricki Lake, has had a career that has now spanned decades in Hollywood. Nikki Blonsky, who reprised the role is currently working at a hair salon on Long Island. This is not a bad thing, it just shows you how you really need to keep getting those breaks. I actually think it is fantastic that instead of whining and complaining and wondering how come she is not still famous that Nikki is working to make ends meet and not trying to make a a living doing club appearances. You know, she would be good on Dancing With The Stars. It would go well with the whole Ricki Lake to Nikki Blonsky thing. You know she is a pretty good dancer and I would much rather reward someone who is willing to work a regular job than someone whoshows up a club in Vegas once a month to make some cash and then sits around the other 29 days wondering why no one has called them to star in a huge blockbuster movie.

Her new best friend is probably her former co-star John Travolta. You know he wants all the hair he can get from her.

Isn't this the same actress that freaked out a few months ago when it was reported that she was working in a women's shoe store? Work is work - do what you need to do to bring the money in!

I like that she doesn't feel she is "too good" to get a regular job.

Yeah, I agree. Good for her. I hope she does get a chance to act again at some point though, if that's what she wants.

Wasn't she the one whose family beat up some reality show chick & her family in an altercation at the airport? Wow, times sure have changed for her. IIRC, she was working in a hair salon when she got the Hairspray job.

unless she's working and has a honest job

Wasn't she on DWTS?

I think she got black balled after her family got in a huge fight with another family at an airport in the Caribbean a few years ago. Her dad was jailed for a while.

Oops--missed chopchop's comment. She is working and her clients like her.

She did an appearance on this kids shoes I watch with my daughters, The Fresh Beat Band. Thought things were turning around for her, guess not, oh well, at least her hair will look good.

she would be a great choice for DWTS. At least she had an actual career, unlike so many of the people they pretend are celebs.

@ kltx SO because she or someone in her family allegedly used a racial slur she should clean up hair for the rest of her life? Okay, by that logic, I'd love to see the next rapper who calls a woman a 'ho' or a white person a 'cracker'picking up garbage on the side of the road for the rest of his life. All the same shit honey, all the same shit.
As far as I'm concerned, good for her for not being too proud to get off her ass and work to make her living.

Now if Lohan could only take a hint from Nikki's example.

Pookie said...

an honest days work for an honest days pay? i can get with that. good for her.

timebob said...

@Sorka8 that was the first thing I thought of also. For every break Lindsay has been given. Nikki would of run with it and done something successful.

But sadly, the sterotyping of large girls in Hollywood has not changed. And skinny big boobed girls party in Hawaii on their 1 million playboy pay day.

I get Ricki and Nikki confused. She would be a great choice for Dancing with the Hasbeens.

wbotw,
I don't listen to rap, so the rap thing is lost on me. And i have yet to hear cracker in the last, i don't know 10 years. If you listen to that that is on you. I REFUSE TO PUT MONEY IN THE POCKETS OF PEOPLE LIKE THAT.

The Blonsky family went on vacation to Jamaica or the Bahamas and in the middle of a bussling airport got into a fist fight with an african american family. Or I should say her father tried to beat up the mother of a model/reality tv star. And in the ensuing altercation some one in the airport (full of black people) accused the family of using racial slurs. Not the family they were fighting but the people working in the airport. Yeah, she deserves to clean up hair for the rest of her life.

Unless you have absolute knowlege of the situation. I would really hold off on the high horse. Honestly someone like Michael Richards who was taped by several people would be a better choice for your criticism. and the comment regarding the location just makes me scratch my head, be it in room full of Black people or a room full of White people a racial slur is bad. And lucky you for not hearing cracker. I don't think the reader ever once said they bought rap music, but if unless you turn off rap or avoid it all together, it will slip by. I find it unkind to condemn a person for the actions of their family but hey if that's how you role. just hope your whole family never does anything to embarrass you.

Good for her. There is nothing wrong with an honest day's work. She got her first break while working at Cold Stone Creamery. Hopefully she will get another big role. She may have also realize that her career has it's limitations and doesn't mind working a regular job until something comes along.

That whole fight is very much a She said/She said thing, so I'm not sure how you know which sail to rail against, kltx, unless you were there. First of all, it happened in Turks and Caicos. Second, Bianca Golden claims that Nikki Blonsky kicked her mother in the vagina and called her a racial slur, Nikki claims that Bianca's brother was acting abusive towards other passengers, and when he saw Nikki staring at him, he called her a "fat white bitch", which is just as offensive. Both Nikki and Bianca were cleared of any charges, and from what a lot of outlets reported, it really did seem as though this incident boiled down to Bianca Golden wanting to get in the news and possibly extend her 15 minutes after appearing on a reality show. Her first appearance after this happened? Tyra Banks show, where she portrayed her family as innocent, nay, saintly (they were on the island to visit a dying relative, Nikki attacked Bianca's aunt who was holding two babies at the time), while witnesses did not support her claims. Oh, and btw, it wasn't a ROOM FULL OF BLACK PEOPLE who claim that the Blonsky family used racial epithets, it was Bianca herself, and apparently what she claims Nikki said is "They have rabies, they have rabies", which I wasn't aware was a racial slur.
Obviously I was not there, so this is all circumstantial, and I think that both families have to be a bit trashy to even be involved in a multi-family airport brawl, but it bothers me when people are too quick to play the race card to gain sympathy, especially if her own brother called someone a white bitch, which was verified with observers. If you think that Nikki deserves to clean hair for the rest of her life, by your reasoning, why does Bianca deserve?
And btw, you need not listen to rap music to hear people calling others crackers, honky's, or white devils. You can find it on Facebook, on tv and in movies, because somewhere along the line that was deemed acceptable where nigger, kyke, spic, and chink were not. It's not ok for any group of people or person to denigrate any other group of people or person for their race, appearance, gender, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, economic standing, or the like. That standard is not limited to white people.

LOL @ "multi-family airport brawl." :)

I don't see Lohan ever "stooping" to make ends meet in a job like this.

Nikki Blonsky tried to make it on a show for ABC Family (the same one that David Hasselhoff's daughter was on), but it tanked.
I am glad Nikki doesn't feel like she's "above" getting a regular job, but I still hope she can find her way back into show business. She's entirely too talented to not have a career in acting. On the other hand, she could be happy in a creative pursuit that doesn't keep her in a fishbowl.

BTW, if Ricki Lake hadn't been able to ride the wave of tabloid talk shows to success, she probably would've dropped off the celeb radar long ago. It's not that I don't think she's talented -- it's just that she owes a lot of her success to making the right career jump at the right time (before the talk show market was flooded with so many other celeb hosts).

found this "Blonsky has earned a cosmetology license and as of December 2011 was working as a hairstylist in her hometown of Great Neck, New York. Blonksy stated she has not given up on her acting career."

reminds me of the rosanne episode where rosanne gets a promotion from hair sweeper to shampoo girl. dan and the kids are mean about it and they ask her if she feels like crap about it. she responds w/ something like, "no, they make me feel good about myself and appreciate me. making me feel like crap about it is my family's job". a bucks a buck.
