Definitely cosign on Colby. A little googling, and I came up with this :

Although, hunky isn't what I would call him, but I also don't get George Clooney's appeal, so maybe my opinion doesn't count.

Vicki Cupper said...

Interesting results when you google "Colbie Caillat gay".

And, no, I don't care if anybody is gay or straight, just trying to solve a blind item. Lighten up.

EleanorRigby said...

I am confused about the Google comment? And "lighten up"?

crila16 said...

I really don't care if she's gay or straight if it's Colby (or else anyone for that matter). If you can sing and I like your music, I'll listen to you. Your sexual preference is not my buisness.

Vicki Cupper said...

Not you, Elanor. Just getting it out of the way for the people that have been shitting on people's comments lately.

EleanorRigby said...

Yup, @crila. I still like Colby's music, regardless of who she dates. It's the National enquirer, anyway! LOL

I have lurked around this blog for almost a year and I finally started commenting recently. I hope that snarky comments towards each other, and everyone can go back to agreeing or disagreeing with each other politely.

I miss some of the old familiar commenters. I can't help but think they aren't coming around for a reason.... :(

EleanorRigby said...

Darn it. Meant to say the snarks stop. LOL, whoops! Anyway, I respect other people's opinions, even if I don't feel the same. And I think most people on here do too. It only takes a few who feel otherwise, I guess.

RenoBlondee said...

I like the Colbie guess.

@Eleanor - Just take it for what it is. I have been a reader since 2006 but only have been commenting for the past six months or so. Some of the old regular commentors are gone due to being tired of the snark, etc. Others I think just faze out over time.

Difference of opinions is def what makes the world go round. I love most the people here but when someone gets abusive towards other commentors or the blog in general by way of misuse or overuse its time for them to go. And usually they do eventually. Just know that you are here and you enjoy yourself. And thats all that matters.

@ EleanorR, I agree....I lurked for awhile b 4 posting & what I appreciated was the mutual respect everyone seemed to show one another. Lately, though, I have noticed some "snark monsters" and I have opted to just not post in those areas. I can't stand "keyboard thugs."

Aww! Big hugs! :D And I love the phrase "keyboard thugs". Thanks to you all for making the new posters feel welcome here! :)

I think one of the ground rules of CDAN should be:

This is a gossip site, and therefore, will contain gossip. The gossip herein may be just rumor and therefore not be well substantiated-- note the lack of referenced source material-- this is not an academic journal, it is a gossip column. The gossip may well be on subjects that some think are impolite or politically incorrect.

gossip (n): idle talk or rumor, especially about the personal or private affairs of others.

^^this^^

EleanorRigby said...

It's not the gossip or the comments on the gossip that I was referring to. It was the interaction between posters. Sidenote, I will say that snarks towards each other seems to be only occasional, and not the norm. :)

Internet thugs is a term to be used lightly. I got called one for what I feel is defending myself after someone mistook something I wrote.

Even if I don't actually know you, I don't want to be called names. Especially on a gossip blog that's supposed to be fun.

Bnl1016 said...

^^AMEN^^

I was once called a moron for simply stating my opinion. Stuff like that sticks with you even when its just on the internet.

EleanorRigby said...

Name-calling is never okay, regardless of being here on the internet. And Layna, I liked the terminology, but would never call someone that based upon a post.

Here's to a great 2012 on CDAN, and may we treat others the way we'd like to be treated!

Lioness70 said...

I've been called a moron, stupid, uneducated, hates women, and a bunch of other nonsense that has no basis in reality just because I stated my opinion.

I take it for what it is 'cause I'm still here. ;)

Lori said...

@Lioness- totally agree. Love the fact that disagreeing makes you stupid, uneducated and/or ignorant...

Gary T. Burnaska said...

Colbie, she did a song with Taylor Swift, maybe with Taylor's man problems those two will engage in womanly passions. HOT!!!!

Cathy said...

I've never called anyone a moron, an idiot or told anyone they were stupid, but if someone writes something that is ignorant by definition (such as applying blanket generalizations to large groups of people), I don't think there's anything wrong with calling them out on it. Generalizations like those can really offend people and I don't appreciate being told that I have no sense of humor for not finding that kind of thing funny.

Lioness70 said...

Cathy, the thread was about Mickey Rourke and calling actresses "cunts". People got into a huge debate over the word he used. The person chewed me out for saying they were.

Are they all? No, and I said that. I also said Hollywood makes people that way. People fawning all over them, having access to what they do, etc., gives them inflated egos and a whopping sense of entitlement. Does that make some actresses cunts? Hell yes it does, if you take the word to mean a total asshole.

That wasn't a douchey or ignorant comment, just an observation on how Hollywood is. Why I got called all that when I was commenting on people who don't live ordinary lives and look down on us regular folk...who knows?

Megley said...

If I have ever called anyone mean or nasty, I sincerely apologize. Even the nicest foax have a bad day once in a while, and so do I.

Ellen said...

I think it is great to have unique opinions and disagree because that seems to help the guessing of these blind vices, but there is never a reason for anyone to be nasty about it. Frankly, I think it is a shame that being gay in a monogamous relationship is something that is even considered a "vice" and that people have to make up fake relationships to hide it, but it is what it is.

That being said, I like the Colbie Callait guess.

Lori said...

@Cathy- yes, if someone says something that is ignorant by definition it is perfectly ok to call them out on it. That isn't exactly going to endear you to a person, or make them any more likely to listen to your point of view, but that is another topic altogether. I don't take offense to people telling people that they are being ignorant if that is the case. I do think that there are a lot of knee-jerk reactions on this particular board when people don't agree with a post. One of the first is to insult a person by calling them ignorant or to snarkily infer that the person is ignorant or uneducated.

As this is a gossip site, I take it all with a grain of salt. I don't like it, but if it's the price of admission...

feraltart said...

I look forward to the day when a person's sexuality means nothing and is not gossip worthy. Having written that, I really want to read that book Enty wrote about. Beats head on computer table. I also have no guess, so rather useless comment for this blind.

Krystal said...

I thought I was the only one that had noticed the tone of the comments changing. Glad I'm not alone. Most of the time I just lurk now.

Differences of opinion are one thing and everybody is entitled to an off day (I've had one!). Unfortunately though there are some commenters who seem to feel like they own this blog and can shut down anyone that happens to say the "wrong" thing. Kind of takes the fun out of CDAN.

Mango said...

I don't give a rat's ass if Colbie Caillat is gay. I have never forgiven her for that fucking stupid "Bubbly Face" song. How that song ever made Top 40 is beyond me.

DixieTheNoble82 said...

I have no idea but I like the Colbie guesses.

I started commenting on this blog, just a few months ago, because everyone seemed to comment with respect most of the time. Differing opinions were politely discussed. Things have seemed more tense than usual though.

I completely agree that name calling is totally inappropriate and never has a place in an adult discussion. It is a huge waste of time to be mad at & fight over an opinion.

DixieTheNoble82 said...

^^Kardashians are completely exempt from the polite policy & deserve every bad thing they hear.

Mooshki said...

It's possible to call people out on ignorant statements without attacking them. I hate it when things get really nasty.

lutefisk said...

Welcome new posters. Don't be scared off. Most of us have gotten attacked and got over it. Many of the posters are wonderful people and their different views make the site interesting. The attackers, not so much.

Icecat said...

We've all been attacked. Don't be scared.. It kind of makes it fun.. But I do agree people can be very ruthless..

Lioness70 said...

Agreed. This isn't the place to post long-winded screeds on progressive feminism or whatever. It's a gossip site about Hollywood assholes.

Most of 'em would stare blankly at those rants, if they ever saw one, and go right back to humping or snorting.

Audrey said...

Personally, I enjoy learning about different opinions on ALL sites I read. If commenters get boring and all they have to say is "oh, she's fat", "oh, she's too thin", "I hate him", "That dress is ugly" - then I'll be gone. That's vacuous and my time is worth more than listening to that crap. What' wrong with a respectful, free exchange of information and opinion? That said, no one needs should tell someone else to STFU - that's just rude.

Jeri said...

I don't comment a lot but I read the comments. Some people do go to far with the snarkiness but most people seem to be normal out for a laugh folks. (Hope that's not bab thing.)

BAD thing (I always manage a tyoe or 2 also)
