What is the most you have ever paid for a drink? A coffee?

Probably around $3.00--I don't really care for fancy flavored coffee so I just get a regular most of the time.

$20 for a martini in some ridiculous club in Vegas... and around $4 for a coffee

I got a cappuccino in Venice during Carnival and when the bill came it was 11 EURO's! My boyfriend's beer was only 3 Euro. I nearly crapped myself. I wanted to leave without paying, but I'm scared of karma. I hope they burn themselves on steamed milk :( there weren't any prices anywhere for coffee, just beer. I thought 'hey the beer is priced okay, coffee must be good.' Nope.

Somewhere in the 15.00 range for a Rum & Coke at the Waldorf Astroria in NYC in 2006. It still hurts to this day. LOL

Between $15 - 20 for a libation. I don't drink coffee though.

I had a bottle of good Moët & Chandon at my 30th birthday, but I didn't pay for it. (Yes, I said that *I* had a bottle)

I pay about $11 for a Grey Goose martini. Even in downtown Chicago, I think we only paid $8 in a nice Hawaiian place for their signature pinapple-infused vodka martinis or something.

Coffee? Not sure. I don't think I would pay over $5 around here, but if I were in NYC or somewhere and needed my java, I'm sure I'd change my mind pretty fast.

Somewhat related, I was at a mid-level bar/club in Vancouver, and this guy thought he was being cool wearing obviously cheap knockoff jewelry, suit, pretending to text on his BB, staring creepily at all the girls, and kept ordering grey goose on the rocks. I told the bartender (who I knew) 'I'll pay you $20 to give him smirnoff instead and see if he notices'. Dude didn't even notice. LOL. In hindsight, I'm glad my friend didn't lose his job lol.

Not much of a coffee drinker.

@AKM I'll pay goooood money for a good martini. I love when bars make their own syrups, infusions, etc.

$18 for a Dirty Martini in a karaoke bar in Lost Wages.

$17 for a martini at a hip hotel in Los Angeles.

$8 for a coffee, at a topless drive-through coffee kiosk here in Washington. From now on, I'll stick with the family-friendly ones, but I had to give it a try once.

I think I paid $7 for a Lemon Drop in Vegas, but that was a looooong time ago. I can't remember the last time I had a drink, in or out, and I hate coffee.

Go Girl is $1.25 if you buy it by the case from Smart & Final. *VBG*

$25.00-- call brand scotch for my pal, & a Perrier for myself, King Cole Bar, St. Regis Hotel, Manhattan.

$30 for a glass of fancy pantsy wine.

I'm going with an amusement park soda - they've got you in a state of complete dehydration, then they sock it to you. We always end up getting one of those $12 "souvenir" cups with a plastic bendy straw and a belt holster that you can refill for $2 or something.

I paid around 50 bucks for 2 vodka shots and a small beer in a night club in Stockholm back in 2009. Fun times.

I paid £23 ($35) for 2 double Southern Comfort and cokes at The 02 in London a year or so back. I learned my lesson =(

$10 for a coke. It was 1980 and I was in Paris, at what was basically a walk up window on the side of a hotel. No outdoor seating, in a teeny-tiny bottle. Rip off.

One meeeelion dollars

Me pay?haahha

@Real Dragon, good answer. If only I were cute or charming :(

Dont drink booze or coffee :(

$15 for a beer at a strip club on 42nd street. Dancer looked like she pulled a needle out of her arm right before she hit the stage. Chugged it and split.

8====D KermitGossnellKnobjob said...

About 7 euros a coffee in Paris. That town is expensive in a lot of places.

I don't drink expensive booze when I leave my town, so it's about the same price for a drink the most.

Long time lurker, first time poster.
OMG you guys (posters) are the best! Found my people here. Never posted because you all pretty much cover it all and then some! Thanks for the laughs and info. Always help make my day a happier one!! (You, too, Mr. Ent:))

OK- $20 American, basic latte in Paris in the '80's. Young and stoopid...

Sherry said...

The mark of a GOOD expensive drink is that you don't remember how much you paid..Either that or I'm just a drunk who doesn't remember anything..Most likely the latter..

Unknown said...

hah @Sherry I think that's true. I had a mixed drink called a Thai something or other, it had lime, coconut, delicious and probably crack. I vaguely remember it costing what I made in 2 1/2 hours of work, but damn it makes me salivate just thinking about it.

Unknown said...

@Nic's mom welcome :) A lot of expensive drinks come from Paris.... must remember to bring a water bottle next time I go :)

Nic's Mom said...

Thanks Svetlana! Almost feel unworthy, cuz there's so many clever, kewl peeps here.
Anyway, yes- re: Paris... But sooooo worth it, imo. Would do it all again!

Unknown said...

@Nic's mom, I can sometimes only post once a week, and I was on holidays for nearly a month in May, so I feel you! I come and go, probably unnoticed, but it's fun to pretend that I've contributed. It doesn't matter anyway...just post freely! I'm neither witty nor charming, and my run on sentences leave something to be desired. But I do it anyway :)

Yeah, Paris...so lovely. An expensive, lovely city.

Nic's Mom said...

Svetlana, ha- I'm thinking that's one of the spiffy things about commenting here. There's the entertaining regulars, but there's room for others with random input and generally everyone seems very decent and easy going. Thanks for replying, you've made me feel welcomed!:)

Unknown said...

Excellent! I feel bad I can't remember who made me feel welcomed, I know sherry and Lucas did, but anyway I'm trying to pay it forward :)

Nic's Mom said...

@Svetlana- fine job! I will do the same:)

$20 for a flaming volcano drink on my bday. Made of everclear and juice, lit on fire, and had me puking behind the bar in less than 10 minutes. Cost more than my dinner, but shared with 3 friends.

Years ago, drinks at the Rainbow Room...so not worth it.

I have more fun with a bottle of Bud Light at a dive bar.

In Paris last month, a 15 euro cappccino, ouch, that's like $17.50

Noble House Designs said...

First time poster but longtime lurker!
Paid $27 for one martini at the Tides Hotel in South Beach. I wanted to vomit. I have never felt so bambozzled in my life. And just a note, South beach is full of posers that drive nice cars but live in crappy apartments. $30,000 millionaires in effect.

Redshirt said...

Not a big drinker. Most I've ever paid for a coffee was $7 at a Starbucks in Vegas.

$34 for two drinks at a club on New Year's Eve - not worth it - the drinks were mostly just milk.

The Real Dragon said...

@svelana Im sure you are both =]

AKM said...

Heheheh, welcome to all newbies. The Nic's Mom/Svetlana exchanges have been so sweet. Noble House Designs, you too. I might pay $27 for a damn fine martini, but it'd have to be a...damn fine martini. Perhaps you were paying for the South Beach ambiance? ;-)

Enty -- whoever you may be this week -- this has been a charming thread, I do believe. I love that most of the stories are you-had-to-be-there travel stories. Fun!

$150.00 for a shot of courvoisier. Was Oak aged and 25 yrs old. It was smooth, but not worth it. Lesson learned.

trainrides said...

@Svetlana I've just realized I haven't been seeing Lucas for some time now. I enjoy reading his comments. What happened to him?

AKM said...

Yeah, Lucas, and dia, too. And probably other regulars whom I'm forgetting at the moment. Where are they?

sma$h said...

Almost $60.00 for a giant beer-rita in South Beach. Proceeded to have a heart attack once I received that bill!

Sherry said...

Yeah where is Lucas and Dia and Meanie Reese. I haven't seen them or Sunny or RejectedCareBear either. Did someone scare them off?

Unknown said...

$7 for a can of Coca-Cola st the Lowes on South Beach MIA - best soda ever!!!

Rosensly said...

$75 shot of imported tequila. Worth it.

Nic's Mom said...

::waves at Noble House Designs and AKM::: - Great day to finally come out of the proverbial lurker closet:)

@AKM: I was thinking the same. "Entry's" posts seem a little more snarky/catty/entertaining than usual today and this has been a fun thread.
Annnnnnd, thank you for the warm welcome:)

£26 for a bottle of wine once, not worth it at all! $8.50 for a vodka martini in San Francisco.

MadamChef said...

It was weird how a bunch disappeared over a few months' time. I was reading that story about Amelia Earhart and the possible wreckage found, which led to a story about the Mary Celeste and how they found the ship abandoned, no trace of the crew. Which of course led to the Mutiny on the Bounty story, and then this story. The Internet is not the place to be if your mind runs on a dozen tracks!

FlirtyChick74 said...

Oh noble. Puts my $12 wine to shame. I've paid an embarrassing amount for a bottle of wine one. Too ashamed to say. I've gotten wise as I've gotten older and now I throw cocktail parties. It's cheaper (but I'm not cheap. I still use quality liquor, wine, juices, and fruit) and I always have a great time.

OKay said...

I paid $15 for a not particularly impressive glass of wine once. I really wouldn't have minded if it had been the best wine I ever tasted, but it so wasn't. I also bought my husband a bottle of Dom Perignon at about $300 for his champagne birthday. That wasn't really worth it either. *L*

FlirtyChick74 said...

Money never equals quality. Knowledge always wins.

SophiaB said...

Where in Washington? I see the Cowgirl drive throughs in armpit towns like Renton but I never saw a topless drivethrough! Yikes! The burns on the boobies!

SophiaB said...

I am a relative newby & I noticed you Svetlana...

Unknown said...

Ahh lovely thread today :) smiles!
I don't know where some of the regulars went..it is summer, and I don't know about them, but here in Canada it's like 3 months so I do my best to pry my eyes away from the computer and go outside and enjoy the nice weather. Maybe everyone will be back in September?

@Real Dragon, the only time I've been able to use my 'feminine wiles' as it were, it's been to get to a damn bathroom haha

Unknown said...

@SophiaB awe :) I wasn't trying to sound sad. I really don't care if my comments go unnoticed, and I'm not exactly attention deprived :P
I'm usually at work, and for whatever reason as soon as I'm about to type something my boss comes, and I close the window and have to re-login etc. etc. so I don't post as much as I'd like.

MadLyb said...

$4.22 once a week. I never thought I'd pay more than a buck for coffee, but I live in the Seattle area, which changes things.

Meanie Rhysie said...

@Sherry *waves hi* ;)

Silly Girl said...

The equivalent of $7.50 for a soda in Tokyo. You had to pay for refills too, not a great place for a caffeine addict to be with little cash.

The Real Dragon said...

@svetlana Whatever works, mama.

The Velvet Margarita in H-Wood has a $35 margarita. What the actual fuck?

$12 for a glass of iced tea in a Mongolian grill restaurant in Hong Kong, and refills were NOT free.
