Blind Item #1

This A- list mostly television actor from a very hit network show tried to do a little damage control after the fact by publishing an open letter about how he is a vision of support for a certain person. The thing is though, even after the letter, he still bailed when it mattered most. It made him look worse than just standing pat and doing nothing.

Sterling Brown...the olivia munn thing?

One of Olivia Munn's co-stars?

Both Sterling and Keegan Michael made statements. So this to be about Sterling. Thought he was a standup guy.

Sterling K Brown.

His statement was self-serving, but to be fair to him he didn’t bail on promotion. He wasn’t one of the actors scheduled to be at TIFF.

This is keegan for sure. Sterling tweeted directly at her, keegan did the publicist thing. Per his pub:
"Keegan reached out to Olivia privately last week to let her know how proud he was of her and echoed that sentiment in many interviews since then"

Anybody know how Munn found out about that guy?

She found out because it's so pervasive they don't even bother to hide it. I like how the director tried to play it off too, like he knew it happened but not the actual details.

Maybe somebody tipped her off. Maybe they tipped everyone off, but she's the only one that did anything about it.

Good for her, her beard rates went up two tiers.

Good for you Olivia.

What do Sterling K. Brown and Keegan Michael Key have anything to do with this scandal? They did not hire the "pedophile". It was the director's doing. Sometimes I feel like things get out of hand where people have to co-sign on everything and get dragged into someone else's fight. Munn called out the pedo and the director and that should have been the end of it. Or did I miss some pertinent details or something?

Olivia Munn has said she felt shunned by her costars by speaking up so it does involve them. No Olivia Munn fan but I agree with her.

Nobody realizes how being shunned or blackballed ruins lives.

This is why people don't speak out - IT CAN DESTROY THEIR LIFE and that's just not worth it to most people for "justice."

I think Munn has earned a pass for a while.

I applaud when women speak up but for some reason it seems like she's attention seeking. She said it took FOX 2 days to get back to her. Well that's a pretty quick turn around in Hollywood as far as a studio taking action. They have to consult the director, lawyers, producers, agents etc. to let the pertinent individuals know changes may need to be made to an already finished product. The scene has to be edited with continuity in mind so that the script still made sense. It's not something that can be done in haste.

I'm a female and I initially applauded her efforts but it seems more like a "look what I did" story. And to be honest, I've worked on tv projects before and just because you work with someone does not mean you are friends. You come in and do your job and move on to the next project. The problem I have is that she said none of the other actors reached out to say "I support you" or "I'm proud of you". Were they even aware of the situation before she or someone in her "camp" leaked the story to the press? Sterling K. Brown said he was unaware of the facts of the situation until it went public. He seemed blindsided by the whole story. He wasn't even in a scene with the guy.

It's challenging to condemn someone or praise another when you don't have any idea who or what you are condemning. I'm not defending any pedophiles. I'm saying that it is dangerous to make uninformed statements. None of these actors even met the pedophile except Munn. I not defending pedophiles, I'm saying that statements and judgment should not be made in haste and it's always better to be informed before acting/speaking.

It just seems like the story escalated to something more "dramatic" when it should've been a more heroic narrative. She said that at the Toronto Film Festival she was left to promote the movie alone because of this controversy. However, this is a half truth. Munn is specifically referring to an interview she did alone with The Hollywood Reporter where she felt abandoned. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Keegan Michael Key was NEVER schedule to do that interview with her and neither was Brown because he is in L.A working on "This Is Us" at the time. I am mentioning these 2 actors because these are the 2 that have been shamed the most in this matter. I'm not sure who actually bailed but she needs to address them by name and not throw shade on everyone.

Sometimes it is how you say things and not what you say. I just don't feel sympathy for her. At first I was pleased to hear about her efforts but with each day it's more drama. That's why people hire professional publicists. From what I read in Variety, Munn was the only actor on the film to work with Striegel so she is leading this charge against him. You cannot always expect a "pat on the back" or "atta girl" every time you do good deeds. You do them and move on. She caused drama by alleging that her castmates did not support her and things escalated from there. I feel the only one she has a right to take issue with is the director, Shane Black. She was owed a personal call and explanation from him. But don't drag everybody down with the drama.

I just feel she handled parts of the situation wrong by blaming everybody.

I think the mistake Sterling K. Brown made was by trying to do his own PR and comment on a situation he was unfamiliar with. I think he was trying to show moral support while exercising caution at the same time and failed. It's a tough thing to do. That's why some celebs pay PR agencies to handle their twitter accounts and issue statements on things like this. It does not mean he's unsympathetic to Munn. It's just that these days everyone's tiptoeing around, afraid to offend and trying to be politically correct. Not that that is a bad thing but it can get out of control. "To err is human."

OKay said...

@So I completely agree that it feels like Munn is all about the publicity. Okay, she should feel proud that she said something and did her bit I guess, but she absolutely will not shut up about it.

Maybe there was plenty of blame to go around.

I for one look forward to watching Olivia Munn's career go from leaps to bounds.
