Ryan Murphy
The only show runner I can name is Ryan Murphy. But maybe he is a director?

+1 Curious. He recently opened up about his son's childhood cancer battle and made a donation.
Assuming this ties into the Matthew Morrison blind then?
I'm not current on Hollywood jargon.....what is a 'showrunner', and how does it differ from exec producer/producer/director?
Thank you.
@Neil the showrunner is usually the executive producer, head writer & does a lot of administrative & managerial duties on a TV (or web) series. Most of the writers on the staff will also have producer credits. Directors in TV are usually hired on an episode by episode basis. Hope this helps.
@Neil: They're the creative force behind the show. Think Joss Whedon for Buffy, Ryan Murphy for Glee, and Jenji Kohan for Weeds or Orange Is the New Black.
David Chase on "The Sopranos," Vince Gilligan of "Breaking Bad" and the abhorrent pig Matthew Weiner on "Mad Men" are the quintessential show runners of our time.
If Ryan Murphy isn't another pedo-pervert predator kingpin with flecks of dried blood under his fingernails, I will eat my hat.
Cool! Thank you for the replies. Learned something new today.
Dont forget Shonda. She's the Queen of showrunners.
Ryan giant pos Murphy
When i read about the donation and that he PUBLICLY posted about it, i thought that he managed to be the pos that he is even when he does something "good"
if this blind is true, he is even more POS than i thought, which was difficult to imagine
Ryan Murphy creates excellent entertainment but one only has to look at his face to know he is an unsavory character. Good Christ - look at the shows he comes up with.
Whatever - creative people are often unsavory. Big surprise, mark 2018 as done.
Also - you guys just gave an excellent overview of influential showrunners - good job team!
I wrote about this in the Matthew Morrison blind - definitely Ryan Murphy. He just donated millions to the LA Children’s Hospital in appreciation of their treatment and care of his son. He made sure it got maximum publicity and released an ‘adorable’ picture of him with his son on instagram, which celebrities and the media practically gushed over. DM was flooded with ass kissing comments about Murphy being a ‘hero’ and a ‘wonderful Dad’, of which the majority were very obviously bots and paid commenters. The whole thing stank of a massive stage managed distraction and manipulation attempt. I feel sorry for his son for many reasons, but it’s sick that Murphy thought it appropriate to use the child’s cancer battle in a bid to drown out the noise of all those skeletons rattling away in his very, very dark closet.
Learning about Ryan Murphy through this site makes one lose all respect for him. Oh that and his shows suck after the first season.
Another great showrunner: Kripke! (Supernatural, Timeless)
