Never Miss Your Wife's Birthday
I think you can pretty much tell a marriage is over when a spouse disappears for the other spouse's birthday. Last night in Jon & Kate was Kate's birthday. The episode was filmed back in March and back then all of America thought everything was wonderful between the pair. Other than Jon's hairplugs that is. Anyway, if we had not known about the fact they were cheating on each other, it might have all seemed innocent. Jon's explanation for being gone was this. "I went out to Utah for, like, five days," he says. "I just wanted to get back out there and ride with my friends. It just happened to fall on Kate's birthday."
Uh huh. Tonight when you get home or see your spouse or significant other why don't you tell them that instead of being at home for their birthday and being with your 8 kids that you decided that you want to fly across the country and spend time with your friends. I'm guessing that conversation will be a real joy.
Even if we hadn't known the couple was in trouble I think anyone with a brain would have thought something was wrong. You just don't do that. People miss birthdays all the time but it is not usually by choice. Oh, and they don't spend five days with their friends when one of the friends is someone with whom they are sleeping. Yep. Deanna Hummel was on the trip with Jon. Oh, did you hear that somehow when Deanna's brother got kicked out he managed to hang on to her bed. I think he is selling her bed and sheets on eBay. Talk about Ick. Nast!

it seems obvious that this is now merely a business relationship and no longer a marriage.
but i'm sure it won't be played that way on TV---it will be a 'marriage in crisis.' i think the crisis is over, they're going their separate ways and come together only long enough to film their scenes and cash the checks.
i happened to see the first episode of the season late last night. he looks awful----what he looks like is a big puffy drunk.

I think they knew how crap like this was going to play out when it was filmed and had a hand in the leaks on what was going on so they could spin it into huge ratings.
This wouldn't have played well with the TLC crowd and without the drama who else would've watched it?
I loved to watch this show when it was about THE KIDS. You know, those kids who are now getting royally screwed by their mother ( I can't help but sympathize for Jon) and TLC. Last week's opener, of which I watched about 20 min of, was more about Kate than the kids. I didn't watch last night and don't plan on watching anymore. Kate is very, very lucky she doesn't live near Philadelphia, because she would not be able to walk down the street without someone telling her what a rotten mother she is.
i side as much with kate as i do with jon. in fact I think jon brought a lot of this on himself and he needs to grow the f**k up.
yes, kate is a shrew but when you have kids especially that many, jon, dude, grow up and join the party. its not about you anymore
I am slowly moving closer to Kate's corner, though, unpopular as it may be. Jon has always been spineless, but the more and more I read about the guy, he seems like the eternal frat boy. Maybe she has to be stringent with him because he's so freaking useless most of the time. Then, to take your mistress on holiday while your wife celebrates her birthday alone? If they don't have some kind of arrangement then I'm totally thinking she's better off without him.
For the record, I don't think she ever spoke to him respectfully, but I have to wonder if maybe, with eight kids under the age of seven, she had to be that way just to get him to move. Poor guy? He has a huge house, a sports car, a four-wheeler, a mistress, the money to travel etc. My heart bleeds.
Both of them need a comeuppance, but I'm done with bashing her exclusively. I actually felt sorry for her when I read this.

i'm with kat. i really do think jon's one of those guys you practically have to tell to breathe or he just wouldn't. when you have 8 kids, you need a partner who's as motivated as you are. he's never seemed like that to me.
I'm not going to bash Jon for the trip. Even back in March, they were clearly separated. He'd be home with the kids while she was on the road, and then he'd take off when she got home. Kids always had one parent in the house (plus nanny, cook, and housekeeper), but the parents were not staying in the house together.
Jon is at least being discreet & private about their shenaningans. Kate continues to throw him under the bus & play the sympathy card. Not cool. But it's apparently working. People are being swayed toward Kate & she'll continue to the Hollywood Party she has destined.

mygeorgie-you may be right about kate throwing him under the bus, but nothing she has done has swayed my opinion on him whatsoever. He's not being discreet, far from it. He's going to bars, hitting on girls in full view of random strangers, and even when he's effectively 'outted', he continues to carry on with it. She's the one who is mostly seen with the kids, which is where she should be, but he should be too. He often makes comments about doing his part as though it is some kind of punishment. Like I said, she has always gotten on my nerves, a total type-A personality, but again, with eight children, one of them had to be Deputy Dog.
I'm glad he finally got sick of being spoken to like a child, but I really wish he'd stop acting like one.
Kate missed the sextuplets 5th birthday (the party episode was filmed in advance). On the real day, Jon was with the kids and Kate was off in NYC doing an interview with People Magazine.
Kat: Don't you think though there might be a pretty good chance Kate & TLC is spinning this one way? Kate could sustain her own show, but not Jon.
I agree he has been blatant, but if they have an agreement/contract & Kate is up to her own stuff, just doing it more privatly, does that make her anymore noble?
I was on Oprah once. They filmed like 70+ hrs of our life. Snipped it into about 3 minutes. Final result: a completely foreign image of my life. Very slanted & all for ratings.
mygeorgie-I totally agree that they spin it. I think everything we watch is contrived nonsense these days, but from the beginning, he's come off like a slug.
Also, I hope that this is the last season for this show, truly. I'm hoping that they've made enough money from it that the kids will have some kind of future and will have forgotten all about this mess by the time they're old enough to start their own lives. Whether this has been Kate's goal, I don't know, and if so, it's at least partially well-intentioned. I also think she's gotten a taste of the good life and doesn't want to let it go, which is totally understandable. I think that most of us, if we had that many kids and had to support them, would take the offer of a television show if it looked as though millions could be made off of it, especially if it meant providing for the children. I want to believe that this is at least part of her aim.
Now, more importantly, you were on Oprah? Did you meet her and is she as nice as she wants us to think?

I don't think this combo is THAT unusual, but having everyone watch it and email you their opinion ("How could you let her talk to you like that?" "Oh, Kate, if only husbands weren't such knuckleheads, lol!") has GOT to affect a person, i.e. resentment, second-guessing oneself ...or digging one's heels in.
I'm sure there's a healthy middle ground, but this doesn't look healthy to me.
P.S. Shouldn't "The Learning Channel" have to justify that name at this point?
Kat: Although I only watch Op's show, maybe, twice a year, I have to say she really is very nice in person. Kind, gracious, considerate & natural. Not a diva at all. At least that wasn't my experience. She also f&cking OOZES power. You can feel it, even in her sweats, sneakers & no make-up. Pretty cool in my books.

@mygeorgie I've had a negative opinion of Oprah for years (she seems high & mighty to me) but I've never met her. Thanks for sharing your opinion!
As for the post, I'm addicted to this Jon/Kate mess even though I don't have cable. I do watch the show when I have access to cable. No doubt most of this is just "spin" and we'll never know the true story.

My dad missed mine and my sister's birthday one year. I was younger, so it made me sad. I'm not sure if my parents ever missed each other's birthdays when they were married, but I wouldn't be surprised.
Anyway, never watched a damn episode of this caca and I never plan to.
i dont really have that many channels, so when i came across an old episode of jon+kate yesterday i thought i would watch it, having only seen the best parts on display on "the soup" earlier.
i dont know how old it was, he was turning 30 and she had given him a trip? Anyways, she seemed nice and didnt scold him, all the kids were staying with judie and kate said "thats why we moved to our house, so that we could be close to judie" and right after she said she thought of this trip as "an investment in their marriage".
How strange it was to see that knowing what we do today.
