Ad Campaign For Bra Uses Man

There is a chain of stores in The Netherlands called HEMA. One of the items sold in this chain is lingerie. Wanting to be edgy and to get people talking about their bras, the company decided to have a model pose while wearing a push up bra. For the most part, you cannot even see the bra. The photos are of the model wearing a dress or a top and you are supposed to imagine the pushup part is doing a great job. There is not even much cleavage in the shots. What makes this such a remarkable campaign is the model used by HEMA looks like a woman, but is actually a man.

Andrej Pejic was born in Bosnia and raised in Australia and has been called the "prettiest man woman known to man."

I actually think it is a good idea, but people have to know Andrej is a man. If you are trying to sell your bras on the fact they can make even a man look good, then why not go the manly man route? Unless you know the secret, you just think it is a female model so there is nothing actually interesting. It is only when you know it is a man, that you get the ah moment.

He is a good looking woman. The second shot, I guess I could believe it's not a chick, but the first pic is totally girly.

Not sure how closely you looked at the photo, but Andrej's name is on it - Andrej Pejic for HEMA, it says.

I was just at HEMA a couple of weeks ago. It is a lot like Target in the US.

Looks kind of like Scarlett Johansson

I think he's beautiful! I read about him a couple of months ago - he does the runway for mens- and womenswear.

I can agree he is beautiful except for the gross moles and other things on his face. Since when did that become acceptable??!!??!?! It's gross!

moles have been ok since Cindy Crawford, besides since when do models have to be perfect? none of us 'regular' folks are.

I read an article about him not long ago. Interesting guy. He's maximizing his earning potential by doing both mens- and womenswear. Very beautiful and can easily cross gender boundaries. Good for him, I say.

AWESOME!

I have zero problem with this, at least he's up front about it and not trying to trick people.

didn't realize it was a guy, wow.

yeah, but isn't everyone missing the point? I wouldn't wear a fucking bra if I didn't HAVE to. What's up with men wanting to? What's next? Selling athletic supporters to girls? :-) Yikes.

My question is...if he's modeling a bra, what is inside that bra? If he has no breasts, then isn't it false advertising?

He was ranked 98 th of the Hottest women by FHM last year. And there was also a banned ad of him, where He was barechested, but wearing blond locks in style of Marilyn Monroe. The ad was banned, because somebody might think that it is actually a woman

I love HEMA. This ad makes me love them more.

I think he's gorgeous in these photos, but frankly I'm more than a little insulted by the company's assumption that women will want to buy their bras because some man is wearing them. I'd feel the same way if Tampax had a man shilling its products.

I love what he's doing and think it's great that he's been embraced but it bothers me somewhat from a body image perspective. Girls need to be okay with curves and using a man isn't helping that.

brendaglove; as opposed to all of the other transgendered people out there who are trying to trick people instead of being who they know themselves to be? And considering he is a guy with a guy name, male id and a penis and lives life as a man although he cross dresses on occasion(met him at the Louis Vuitton mens wear party in July in Paris)he isn't transsexual so, no he isn't a woman.

That's brilliant marketing.

since were "gross moles" NOT acceptable? what's wrong with you?

and in australia, we have men spruiking tampons and pads all the time, usually in voice over or moronic acting, but it's still blokes.

He is NOT a woman. It is biologically impossible to change ones sex! Jesus, how many times must we discuss this?! ;) ;)

Totally gorgeous & agree, wicked marketing plan for an otherwise boring shoot.

At first glance at the first pic, I thought it was Elin! He fooled me!

I also think it's brilliant marketing, since it seems half of the world is talking about it. While most Hema buyers (all of us in NL, really, but the bulk is slightly older people) will not notice the "Andreij Pejic for Hema" veery little tagline, it's been featured on the press so much on the last two days, that everyone knows about it.

For those wondering "why would women want to wear a bra just because a man wears it", the ad is for a mega push up bra that supposedly makes you 2 cups bigger. The message is that the bra is such a mega push up that it can create breasts for someone who does not have them. Like, a man.

God, the ignorance... you can't change your sex, therefore she's not biologically female, but she is a woman, since "woman" is a social construction.

Also, bras are not "necessary" and no one has to wear them - the only reason is aesthetics and comfort: they do not prevent sagging or have any health benefits. Just like corsets.
