Casey Affleck Talks About Sexual Assault Backlash - Kind Of
Casey Affleck was awarded the best actor Oscar on Sunday for his role in “Manchester by the Sea,” but not everyone was thrilled to see the star take home the golden statue.
Criticism of Affleck stems from a 2010 sexual harassment lawsuit against the actor, which was filed by two women who worked with him on “I’m Still Here.” The case settled outside of court.
Affleck opened up to the Boston Globe about the reactions to him winning Best Actor.
He said neither side from the case is able to discuss the details of what happened which is a really nice excuse. Still he said, after a pause, “I believe that any kind of mistreatment of anyone for any reason is unacceptable and abhorrent, and everyone deserves to be treated with respect in the workplace and anywhere else.”
Of the backlash Affleck said, “There’s really nothing I can do about it. Other than live my life the way I know I live it and to speak to what my own values are and how I try to live by them all the time.” The thing is though he could have strongly condemned sexual assault rather than a vague mistreatment statement. Also, during his speech was a chance for him to really try to make amends and he didn't.
'Fresh off the Boat' actress Constance Wu slammed the star when his Oscar nomination was announced and fellow actor B.J. Novak took to Twitter on Sunday to quip “Can we check Best Actor again.”

I think if one would scratch the surface of "Hollywood", one would find out it's just a sleazy enterprise. Look at all the prostitutes/actresses/models on the yachts. Look at all the sleaze in the music industry where singers are used up and tossed out. Just read this site everyday and look at all the filth and exploitation. Casey Affleck is in "good" company.
The only way his type learns how damaging sexual harassment is, is if a loved one experiences it and he has to witness the fallout.
I think a lot of the voters realize the difference between Casey and some of the other nominees is that he got caught. I imagine some of the voters in the academy paid people off before going to court,or having the circumstances changed.
Either way, and despite whatever dirt there is on him, Denzel was robbed.
What a bizarre relationship Casey and Joaquin have. They're brothers-in-law but were fucking women together in the same bedroom during the filming of 'I'm Still Here'
Apparently the other side of the lawsuit can speak publicly about it.

@AyyPapi, that bothered me before I even heard of the allegations, Joaquin is terrible to his sister, even if the marriage was open.
Not to excuse Joaquin Phoenix but his family was part of the children of God (iirc) cult when he was little and they advocated sex with children. There's no telling what he experienced or witnessed but river Phoenix claimed he lost his virginity at 4

Of course if inspite of the way they treat women Trump/Clinton can be President, Uber can be valued in billions, then Casey can get an Oscar. Still, a douchebag is a douchebag.
