What Did She Do To Be Punished?

The president of the film academy says the two accountants responsible for the best-picture flub at Sunday's Academy Awards will never return to the Oscar show.

Cheryl Boone Isaacs tells The Associated Press that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' relationship with PwC, the accounting firm responsible for the integrity of the awards, remains under review.

Boone Isaacs broke her silence Wednesday following the biggest blunder in the 89-year history of the Academy Awards.

PwC accountants Brian Cullinan and Martha Ruiz were responsible for the winners' envelopes at Sunday's Oscar show. Cullinan tweeted a photo of Emma Stone from backstage minutes before handing presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway the wrong envelope for best picture. Boone Isaacs said Cullinan's distraction caused the error.

So, Martha is getting punished because of what Brian did? Seems unfair. Oh, and who is calling in death threats to them? What is he point of that? Were people that mad that La La Land didn't win?

I know it was a huge mistake, but no lives were lost. It seems sad that all the good work they did and have done over the years is disregarded. Maybe they were just fired from the Oscars account, not their actual firm. That would make more sense and be more fair imo.

Oh please, once again people making Hollywood way more important than it is. This is why most of the actors/actresses think they are above everyone and think they world owes them something. It was a mix-up of envelopes....yes it was embarrassing, but it's not a major catastrophe!!!

They aren't getting fired from the firm. If she didn't do anything wrong,
Let her complain, Enty. @Lisa is right, the worse thing about it is they didn't do a proper envelope opening for the movie. The mix up probably gave the movie more attention though.

Apparently she didn't act immediately when the wrong winner was announced. When an error like this is made, the PWC people are supposed to act so quickly that the ceremony is stopped before the non-winner speaks. Instead, she punted.

Do you think I should keep my job if I let some horrible mistake go by without warning everybody I could find about it?

(Maybe that's not the best example . . . .)

I saw a quote from Shirley MacLaine saying they were absorbing "the horror of it". Unbelievable - THIS is horror to you? THIS?! Ugh.

Okay. Warren is quoted as saying he noticed the "Best Actress" written on the outside of the envelop.
Why didn't he question it when he noticed?
Apparently, the feud between the "Bonnie & Clyde" co-stars (Faye and Warren) was more important than having the correct envelope in his hand.
A simple, 'I think I have the wrong envelop' would have gone a long way in that moment.
Maybe Warren & Faye should be banned, too!
(She said she noticed the error, too and said "La La Land" anyway.)
This whole thing reeks from their disdain for each other.
(I'm just glad i didn't watch this nonsense. Such a train wreck.)

Guilt by association. PwC wants to save the business, so anyone associated with this mess gets thrown under the bus.

In the entire Oscar kit-and-kaboodle staff, the only goys get the boot! How amusing! He really let our side down!

It's a stupid award show - hardly tragic or a big deal. I wish I had such trivial problems.

@David Waren Beatty is an old man plus he's an actor. They just read what they're supposed to read and not question the script. This goes double for the tightly run Oscars broadcast. I don't think either Faye or Warren have any blame in this "fiasco".

Cullinan's obviously a twit, the woman was apparently just too shy to push onto the stage to correct the error. In any case, that was the most excitement at an Oscars in years! Moonlight and LaLa Land should be happy because people will always remember this unlike, say, who won last year's Best Picture? Duh, nobody remembers.

Had 79 year old Warren and 76 year old Faye bothered to wear their reading glasses.....

I have wondered, what if Warren had just said "I may have the wrong envelope". And agree with Lisa, wish the press didn't make this a catastrophe! Jimmy Kimmel/Guillermo video of what really happened is worth a watch! Plus, entire Guillermo on the red carpet, ?

warren might be too old and senile to present. anyone else would have said 'this is the wrong envelope.' i'm sorry these 2 are taking the fall but they are still working there, so they didn't lose their jobs over it.

When you started in Hollywood with a famous sister and you also happen to be gorgeous, then you don't learn to be proactively responsible for things. Warren is a product of his upbringing.

Who cares if she at fault or not. She was part of a two member team that led to the biggest FU ever at the Oscars. I think banishment from this perk of a gig is a small price to pay for such a FU. The Academy should have fired PWC not just had them agree not to have either of these two be involved next year.
