Blind Item #2

This A+ list singer is already attracting a lawsuit over her blatant ripoff of another singer who already had that melody in a song.

What because she's white it's not "sampling"?

Guesser said...

If there is a writing credit, why would there be a lawsuit?

earlybird2 said...

I posted the wrong thing Guesser, sorry!!
I found a daily telegraph article said "Me" sounds just like Pharrell's "Happy"

Akbar has NO idea what sampling is... copying is NOT sampling. Sampling is using the EXACT track melded into your own.

akbar johnson said...

And nowhere is she being accused of using the EXACT track melded into her own, thanks for playing though...

The video is pretty but probably cost more money than I will ever see in my lifetime

Ariana Grande? Princess Nokia claims that Grande's latest song rips off “Mine,” from her 2017 release 1992 Deluxe.

Huckleberry said...

Why would you copy Pharrell's Happy? That is the most mind-numbingly repetitive and uninspired song from an era of music like that.

Gwili Andre said...

No, because she didn't credit the other writer, Einstein. Racist Republicans are so tiresome.

Gwili Andre said...

Yawn, you know if you sample a song you have to give the writers of the original song credit?

Btw, white performers also sample, stop being racist.

MDAnderson said...

I only listened to the song because I love Brendon urie and it doesn’t sound like happy to me.

Scratching my head over this one. The only A+ singer who released anything recently is obviously Taylor Swift but what song is it ripping off?

The Telegraph article says the horns are in the same vein as Happy and Can't Stop This Feeling, but that's just a superficial comparison, not a stolen melody as mentioned in this blind.

Are we to believe there's really a lawsuit pending over this?

Calling BS if someone can't point to a song that this new one is clearly stealing from.

Guesser said...

Ok, so Pharrell steals from Marvin Gaye on "Blurred Lines",so he's going to sue? And Happy sounds like a hundred other songs so...

MDAnderson said...

I agree guesser. Pharrell is the last person to sue anybody. He gets “inspired” by a lot of other people’s songs.

Guesser said...

I thought Enty was going to put something about a gay message in the video, instead a stretch about song stealing.

Guesser said...

And Pharrell and Thicke could have just given a proper credit saving $ millions in money and damage to their careers. I think Taylor has more sense.

So long as we're on the subject, Akbar has no idea of many things.

Oh hey. Akbar: a couple days ago we celebrated one of your own, going off into the warmth of Satan's arms when he was put to death at midnight for dragging a black man behind his truck twenty years ago.
The man who died was James Byrd jr.
May he rest in peace and his family have peace also.

Ok carry on.
Fkyou Akbar and all your type

I know Marvin Gaye's family was considering suing over "Happy", saying it was a ripoff of "Ain't That Peculiar". I thought that was a real stretch. I just watched part of Taylor's video, I don't hear any similarities to Happy or Can't Stop the Feeling. The song blows, though. I miss normal drums in pop music, I am sick to death of "beats".

Blind wants us to think “ME!” by Taylor Swift, but she’s been careful to credit. Example- crediting Right said Fred in LWYMMD.

@Huckleberry said "...the most mind-numbingly repetitive..." describes most of Tay-tay's catalogue, so you answered your own question.

Jim said...

Meredith: I enjoyed listening to it but to be honest it's been half an hour and I can't remember how it goes, so...

longtimereader said...

Only 12 notes a man can play...it's a simplistic melody probably with thousands of variations going back decades. Good luck going up against Swift's lawyer in trying to prove she ripped them off specifically. Meanwhile it's the biggest song on the planet off her 7th album. You have you admire the sheer global impact of her music. Beyonce doesn't come close and Madonna's new song is forgotten already.

People assuming I'm white, hypocrite much snowflakes? Rosie, 20 years ago somoen got lynched, so that somehow relates to my comment about a Taylor Swift song? lol and you idiot sjw's wonder why you're going to have 4 more years of Trump, I can't wait!

Madonna?

Fuchsia said...

It’s Taylor Swift. Her new song is a rip-off of “Next to Me” by Emeli Sandé.

Fuchsia said...

Oh geez... Just saw that TS and Emeli performed that song together in 2014. Hope she credits her.

Guesser said...

@Meredith,are you Taylor's cat trolling?

BayAreaGirl said...

Thanks Fuschia. I thought it sounded familiar but couldn't remember which song.

@Meredith - I dunno, pretty similar. Taylor's songs has louder horns & faster tempo at times, but I can hear it.

@Fuschia ,first to get the song right.

Vita said...

Oh, Madonna and the new eye patch affectation, smdh

Haven't heard Taylor's new song yet, and Im not looking it up bc I know it's only a matter of hours before it's inescapable. However, I do have questions about these lawsuits...
I m not a musician, nor do I claim a great ear, but...to me, gaga's "Born This Way" is just a word swap version of "Express Yourself," where " Blurred Lines" is more of an homage/in the style and instrument usage of "Got to Give It Up," but melody seems different to me...how did one get sued and lose, and the other just got a shady comment or two?

Is there an objective test?

MyMyMy said...

It’s Next To Me + Katy Perry’s Roar... which itself was a copy.

Beyonce? Lot of the new album has lots of "samples" or Arianna

Sorry all you Swift haters but I just listened to it and I really like it. It is very catchy and does not sound like "Happy" or anything else I've heard. It will be a big hit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuXNumBwDOM
