Blind Item #11 - Reader Blind

Recently, the two founding, constant members of this permanent A+ band that has not been active in several decades and whose heyday was even further back, met to discuss a possible tour.

The two members, a singer/songwriter and an instrumentalist lesser singer/songwriter, are closely related but their animosity towards each other is legendary.

The meeting did not last long as an argument broke out immediately and escalated to the singer/songwriter mimicking the other member’s health problems - Dragging one foot and slurring his words.

Damn Ray, ridiculing your brother Dave who had a stroke.

"closely related" makes it sound like relatives, and the Kinks

The report last year was Ray and Dave had sat down and talked things out and there had been plans for a tour. But there were reports last year also the Gallaghers did the same thing and that doesn't seem to be very true. So who knows about Ray and Dave?

The Ramones are all deceased.

This is the Kinks.

Some of the Ramones group are still living such as Joey and Marky, but the original 4 died.

Wow, looking online at recent photos, you would think Ray had the stroke, he looks alot worse than Dave.

@sandybrook,they worked things out and fought again, like they always do. This is the Kinks, longer layoff.

Joey was the original lead singer and founding member. He died of cancer in 2001. Marky was not a founding member.

Kinks were great. Dave Davies' guitar licks made his douchie brother a star.

Dave speaks with interdimensional beings, like Rogan & Alex Jones.

One thing they never tell you about the Ramones is that the drummer played the guitar solos.

Tommy Ramone (Tomas Erdelyi) was a producer and could play about any instrument, but he wasn't very interested in being in a band or touring, he preferred to be a manager and engineer. The original drummer for the Ramones was Joey, who wasn't that good and quickly switched to vocals, causing Tommy to "join" the band.
Johnny was strictly a rhythm player on guitar, he would never try to play a solo during concerts, as all live recordings show. Because of that, on the first four albums, the two producers, Tommy and Ed Stasium, uncredited, would overdub guitar parts to make the recordings more appealing, and this was done with the rest of the band agreeing.

By the way, the story about the Davies is quite unlikely. Ray can be an asshole (he reportedly stamped on Dave's 50th birthday cake) but he was shot in the leg a few years while he was trying to get the purse two muggers had taken from his girlfriend in New Orleans, and he's never fully recovered, which means he has a limp. If he dragged one foot, that was not a mockery of Dave's stroke, it's how he walks now.

Van Halen is a truly stupid answer. They last toured in 2015. And the Van Halen brothers get along fine

Angela when the Kinks were still a group, Ray and Dave got into fistfights on stage. I think one happened in New York at the then Felt Forum. They detested each other and hadn’t spoken in DECADES, but last year there was a report they sat down and talked and made up and we could expect a Kinks tour after they did an album. Instead Ray released a solo album back in October, no Kinks tour.

Thank you, @Kate K.
It's kind of cute though, that people were thinking they were the Ramone brothers.

@sandybrook
Yeah, I know about the reunion project.
Ray actually released a solo album, but it was part 2 of his "Americana" project, based on his 2013 book, and it was actually recorded in 2017. The tracks weren't supposed to be Kinks material and they predate the reunion talks. Ray Davies talks about the shooting at length during the album.

I know about the fights on stage or backstage. Actually, Dave tended not to attack Ray directly but used drummer Mick Avory as his surrogate and would throw insults at him. One night, it went so bad that Avory retaliated, hit Dave with a piece of his drum kit and left him for dead. He went MIA for days, because he assumed the police was on his trail.

I still think that the story submitted by the reader is bogus, something they heard through someone biased for Dave, because Ray has his limp. Also, it looks like that they're mostly working through e-mail, exchanging sketches or demos for the other to contribute (both have a backlog of songs intended for the Kinks) rather than meeting face to face to discuss it. That's also the way Daltrey and Townshend worked on the new Who album. They're not in good terms, but they managed to complete it.
The real question would be about a reunion tour, and the line up, outside of Ray and Dave. They were never really a great live act, but, by the end of the seventies, the band started to play every song the way Van Halen had covered "You Really Got Me", and they kept up this awful stadium rock style for a long time, backed by a disposable rhythm section.
For the reunion, they have reportedly approached Mick Avory and John Dalton (who had been the bassist between 1968 and 1976), so it could be the actual line up that played on Arthur, Lola, Musswell Hillbillies and Sleepwalker, but Avory's drumming was subpar on the last albums he appeared on and I have no idea if he has recovered.

I don't think the Kinks are permanently A+. I think this may be the Beach Boys

Why wouldn't The Kinks be permanent A+?

Jaiden_S said...

This is the Kinks.

But if Oasis were to reunite and go on tour again, I'd throw my paycheck at them.

Angela said...

Once again, for Oasis, Noel Gallagher was the songwriter and Liam the main singer. And it's unlikely that Noel is begging for a reunion, as his band now features Gem Archer and Chris Sharrock, who were in the final line up of Oasis plus Beady Eye (Oasis minus Noel after the breakup), in addition to Mike Rowe (who played keyboards for Oasis as a side member). He makes a good living, and he must still have a ton of money from the early albums.

Also, Noel looks weird because he has a sectioned nerve at birth and part of his face is paralyzed. Stallone has the same issue.
