Here Comes The Gravy

Billy Bob Thornton was still in Canada as of last night. I don't actually think you can get kicked out of Canada for being rude, but he is giving it a really good shot. Last night his band played in Toronto. Now, remember the audiences are there to see Willie Nelson and so please don't think people were actually spending their hard earned money to see Billy Bob Thornton.

Anyway, just like Britney did in Vancouver, Billy Bob stopped playing after three songs so he could explain some of his derogatory remarks he made towards Canadians and why he sounded like an a-hole on the radio show.

Here is how that whole thing went with the crowd. (From The Toronto Star)

"It seems as if when I say something it's in the news."

When that drew boos, Thornton continued: "Boo all you want, but I want to say something.... We're really happy to be here, but I need to say something. I talked to this a--hole yesterday.

"I sat down and talked with this guy. He and his producers say, `We promise you we won't say that' (meaning references to Thornton's acting career). The very first thing they said was that.

"I don't really like sensationalism," he added. "If you look someone in the eyes and promise them something, and you don't do it, you don't get the interview. That's the way it goes."

The explanation was met by further boos and catcalls of, "Here comes the gravy."

Damn you have to love Canadians. What that shows is they all watched or listened to the interview when BBT referred to Canadians as mashed potatoes without gravy. That is surely a way to make people fall in love with you.

A reporter from the Toronto Star interviewed BBT before the show last night and said that BBT was covered in thick facial makeup and chain smoking cigarettes. Just that description makes me ill. Billy Bob didn't sound contrite last night. Didn't say he made a mistake. He blamed it all on the DJ from the show, and that he, BBT loves all Canadians. Yeah, well I don't think they love you back.

Billy Bob "asshole" is still an idiot. He shouldn't had made a big deal just because of the intro. He should have just gone along with it and talked about his band. After all he isn't known for being a singer.

fuck him.
"here comes the gravy!"
awesome...has BBT never heard of a little thing called Poutine??

he's lucky he didn't get a Molson to the back of his slimy head last night.

i used to love this guy but now i'm realizing he really isn't a great actor, he's just an asshole 'playing' the same role over and over again.

I feel kind of sorry for his band mates. All they want to do is play music and they've got this guy's ego to deal with. They CAN quit anytime they want, I guess.

It's a shame, I used to have a crush on BBT - thought he was sexy. But not anymore.

Audrey, that's what I was thinking too, about his bandmates. Bet they were cringing last night.

I agree his attitude on the radio sucked.

I'd like to know if/why the interviewer did, in fact, make such an agreement and if/why they reneged on it.

Like I said yesterday that radio show host IS an asshole, so BBT is right in that respect, but calling us mashed potatoes without gravy? Well I simply won't stand for that.

I don't see how the host was being an asshole. I know nothing about him other than this one interview. He did an intro that mentioned BBT's acting. Completely appropriate. Was he focusing more on BBT than the others? Yes. Did he even introduce the others by name. No, true. But none of them would have been there in the first place if it hadn't been for BBT's involvement. So .... them's really the rules. If BBT wants to ignore those, he shouldn't have even shown up for the interview. Let's see how many interviews the band books that way. My guess? Zilch.

Mistik - after the way Billy Boob has acted, I wouldn't doubt the band books zilch interviews now, anyway!

Every time poutine gets mentioned I forget all about the topic.

Who cares about this ass? I need some gravy on my fries!

brendalove, I agree.... if they're so keen to make it on their own merits, I wish them the best of luck with that. Hope they have a huge garage.

I just read that his band pulled out of the Canadian tour. What a baby.

BBT thinks he can 'instruct' interviewers on what to say. he can't. the minute that DJ mentioned acting, they had violated BBT's instructions, according to him.

since nobody's going to let him dictate all the terms, the questions, etc., maybe he should just never do another interview.

that would suit me fine. dickhead.

AnnMarie, Yes! They're gone.

Jian Ghomeshi isn't an asshole. He's a good guy, IMO. Anyone else here a fan of Moxy Fruvous?

http://www.fruvous.com/

BBT has had an asshole rep for years and years...

David D. said...

I'm not a big fan of Ghomeshi's (people who've worked with him have called him the Persian Princess) but he was not in the wrong in this situation, and neither he nor the producer would ever make any kind of 'deal' with BBT or his agent. It just wouldn't happen.

(I can imagine someone saying "Of course we'll be focusing on the band and the music, and BBT's role in it..." but that's not the same as making a deal not to mention BBT's movie career. The only reason he's being taken remotely seriously as a musician is because of his movie career.)

And now the rest of the Canadian tour is cancelled. Well, I feel sorry for the bandmates, but otherwise--good. BBT's idiocy was on the national public radio broadcaster, not some little station in Alberta. Maybe this gives him a particle of perspective. But probably not.

BBT did an interview a few months ago with the Kidd Kraddick show and they talked about his movies and others during the interview, and he was completely fine with it. Gave a pretty good interview, I thought.

But really, is he opening for Willie all the time? Willie is coming to town soon and I'd like to take my Mom, but not if MakeupspongeBob is there. Yuk.

Maybe he won't come back to Canada ever again. :)
