Jennifer Aniston Makes Another Awful Movie - Shares Pain With Co-Star Boyfriend

You know, as bad as Jennifer Aniston's movies have been for the past two or three years I think this is the first time one has actually been so bad that it is being delayed. The movie where she met Justin Theroux, Wanderlust, has been pushed back from a release in two weeks to February. A movie that was two weeks away from being released gets pushed to February, you know it is bad. Was it Bounty Hunter she made with Gerard Butler? Awful, awful movie. With the exception of Marley & Me, name a Jennifer Aniston movie that did any good and even in that movie, Jennifer Aniston played the exact character she plays in every movie. The only reason Marley did well was because it had a built in audience from the book.

OK, you are saying to yourself, Horrible Bosses. It did well, but not great, and it was not because of Jennifer Aniston. I think Jennifer can be great in movies. I just don't think she needs to always play the same character. I will always have a soft spot for her because she was the mom in Iron Giant. She did great. Yes, it was a voice, but she did great. Office Space she was funny. Umm, that one where she played a cashier. She was good in that. Even if you are her biggest fan in the world, you know that her character never changes in any of the movies. I wish she would take a chance. Go for an Academy Award. Do something.

I can't disagree with any of this post.

The Breakup was pretty good, but then again, I really like Vince Vaughn ;) And holy HELL, the Bounty Hunter was bad.

I really liked Friends with Money.

That movie with Adam Sandler did OK....but yes I would never pay for a ticket to see her films....
And I don't dislike her...but....

I loved The Break Up. I think she has good movies and bad movies. I think her problem is she's not very choosy with her roles. She does seem to play the same person over and over, although I did kind of like how in Just Go With It she was a mom and a little more conservative and uptight. That was a change from the normal single gal looking for mr right. My mom always comments on how it annoys her that she likes to wear sleeveless shirts to show off her arms. Never noticed until she said something.

Agree with Enty. But still like Jen Aniston.

Also, many good reasons to delay the movie: a movie coming out around Oscar time does much better and gets more easily promoted. Obviously, they're admitting the movie is not in contention for Oscar season. Her new relationship does not look as fake/planned if the movie will be out in February, and finally, they've admitted that the movie needs more work. So why not. Please let us NOT repeat the Bounty Hunter. gag and embarrassment. But not as bad as Catwoman.

I think JA always does better in ensemble casts. She sort of balances out different personalities and crazy characters. The girl cannot be the sole star. unfortunately.

I'm not a fan of hers, but the movie Derailed, with Clive Owen, was pretty good.

He's Just Not that into You. Didn't it do well?

She totally always plays the same character, but I like Jen A. You could say the same for Vince Vaughn, and I like him, too.

I too think "Friends with Money" was good, and that she was good in it, and somewhat different character. She was VERY different in the one where she was a cashier (what was that called?), and in fact I remember she was pissed off because she expected to be nominated for an Oscar for it.

The Good Girl with Jake G. One of my favorites. She should do more movies like that. I can't remember if she won a Spirit award for it or not, but she did get great reviews for it. And I know its TV but I also really liked her when she was on Cougar Town. Totally agree that she does the same character over and over and needs to mix it up.

The Good Girl is one of my fav movies.

The best part of The Break Up was John Michael Higgins. The dinner scene where they all sing Owner of a Lonely Heart was brilliant.

The one with Adam Sandler was cute, but mostly because of the kids.

She does play the same character, but so do a lot of others. Sarah Jessica Parker? She can't seem to shake those Carriesms.

And years ago when she played a woman pretending to be a man, I thought then how Barbra Streisand is always the same and at that time I had seen every movie she had done.

Actually...I read somewhere that it got pushed back to Feb, because that's around the time of the Oscars. When an actor/actress has a movie coming out, the academy usually asks the lead actor/actress to present at the Oscars. Brad is also "possibly" up for best actor for Moneyball. More drama and attention brought to happy in love Jen. It's just another publicity move by Jen's handlers to stay in the lime light with all this Aniston/Brad/Ang stuff currently going on.

I've read the Wanderlust script and I actually thought it was really funny. The word came out over a month ago that they were pushing it back, so I'm not going to write it off yet. There wasn't even a trailer out yet for it, so I don't think this was a last minute decision.

I do have to agree, however, that I wish she would do something different. I loved "The Good Girl." She needs to do more of that, or really go into the directing side if that's what she prefers.

And to think Joan Crawford was once referred to as "box office poison". Granted Mommie Dearest is my point of reference here, but still. That movie exec had no idea what was on the horizon.

crila16--I agree! Plus, if she's pregnant, all the extra hoopla will be publicity heaven.

I think that she has done something. I think that she is pregnant. : ) I agree, she should mix it up a little and move out of her comfort zone. I am not a huge fan, but she is o.k.

Friends with Money was my favorite one of her movies.

She was not the same ol character.

She smoked pot, was a maid and had issues.

I'm not a Jen hater, the tabloid stuff just passes me by, but I have only seen her play one basic role. Many years ago I read a Hollywood producer saying that the main reason successful TV actors seldom made it in movies was the difference between the casting process in TV and movies. In TV they try to cast to the script and they adjust the scripts over time based on the performances they're getting. The result is that everyone thinks the actor is great because they fit the role like a glove. With movies they only have one chance on location to get it right and therefore they cast actors who could give some range if the director changes the focus (i.e. can play it a little funnier or play it a little more serious). I think Jen A may be proof of that observation. My prediction is that she will be back on TV within three years.

The Good Girl was great and actually gave Jen A some range. Plus it was written by Mike White who is awesome and more awesome on The Amazing Race!

But that movie is almost 10 years old and she hasn't done anything challenging in years but make movies that pay for her houses.

Yikes! February is a dumping ground for movies studios have given up on and don't want to invest more money in. I wonder what the heck went wrong with this?

yolknkl; said...

she doesn't have the talent to play any other character but the one she plays. she is a star, not an actress.

girltrav said...

Thank you BinkyM I was going to bring up that all the bad movies are released in Jan and Feb-even March. Last Oscar release date (some in limited release) is Dec. 31st. So if a small movie is in contention for an Oscar the studio will wide release it in the beginning months. That is when the public goes out and sees the Oscar movies. PLUS you have to factor in weather for some of the US, no money for families after x-mas etc.

It just seems she does the same character over and over -- they're not really written that way. The character she played in Along Came Polly? That was clearly supposed to be an Angelina Jolie-type exotic vixen (when Jolie was an exotic vixen). The tramp stamp, the foreign places, the dancing -- Jen just made it seem like Rachel watshername from Friends again though. She can only be herself.

Name a Jennifer Aniston movie that did well. OK.

Bruce Almighty
Along Came Polly
The Break Up
Marley and Me
He's Just Not That Into You
Just Go With It
Horrible Bosses

All of those were successful at the box office. What is everyones problem with Jennifer Aniston?

I think she should play against type some time. Like an assassin. In fact, I have written such a script. Call me Jen!

I like JA movies. I actually liked The Switch with Jason Bateman. I LOVED Horrible Bosses- even though she didn't play a huge role in the movie, she played the part very well. Just Go with It was not that bad either.

I wish she would take a chance, too!

I love her, but she definitely tends to play the same character. I haven't hated anything she's been in (I never saw The Bounty Hunter or Leprechaun) but I've never been blown away either.

Maybe to avoid the same atrocity of Gigli.
