Monday Night Television - Two And A Half Men, Dancing With The Stars, Charlie Sheen Roast, Real Housewives

I have to tell you that I cannot remember the last time I was juggling so many channels at once and not doing it just to hear my mom complain. My dad never complains because he is the worst offender of channel surfing. Even I can't watch television with him. Last night though there was so much to see and it was all on in the same time frame. I had separate DVR's running so I could catch everything.

The things I was actually trying to watch were Two And A Half Men, Dancing With The Stars, Real Housewives and the Charlie Sheen roast. Oh, and the end of a really boring football game. Seriously NFL? You thought the Rams would make for good primetime television.

Two And A Half Men - It was a lot of jokes you could see coming from a mile away and some bad acting by Ashton Kutcher. I thought the opening was a bit harsh, and Chuck Lorre let his emotions get the best of him rather than be just a writer. The only reasons I felt my time was worth it was to find out that Dharma and Greg were still together (barely) and John Stamos who was really funny.

Charlie Sheen Roast - Better than Two And A Half Men and funnier. Two best lines of the night were, "You are just like Bruce Willis. You were big in the '80s, and now your old slot is being filled by Ashton Kutcher." The other one I loved was "Charlie Sheen's nostrils are so snotty and full of coke that he calls them the Hilton sisters." It is worth watching a repeat if you can find it.

Dancing With The Stars - I don't think I remember a season having all the contestants all bunched up. I think Ron Artest or whatever he is calling himself is out the door which is too bad because he is the only one who will probably give his earnings to charity. I would rather see Rob Kardashian out the door because I still don't understand why he is on the show. The Kardashian clan is slowly tipping the pendulum from annoying or irritating to get them the f**k out of my life. It is just too much, too often and I'm sick of it. Did you think Elisabeta Canalis would do so awful? For some reason I thought because she is Italian and good looking that it would translate into being a good dancer. I was wrong. I don't know if it was that she was so bad or that I had higher expectations for her so she looked worse than she was. No, she was horrific. Guess George Clooney liked something more about her than her dancing. Chaz did pretty well. He is not going to win but I thought he would be the worst of the night. He was safely in the middle of the pack which means he should be ok for four or five weeks. Plus, half the audience that watches the show probably remembers when he was a kid and would show up on Sonny and Cher's television show so that is worth a few votes.

Real Housewives Beverly Hills - Did any of you watch it thinking of what Taylor has been accused of doing? It kind of put a big spin on everything for me and made me distrust her even more. I still am thinking she was abused just because of Russell's history, but it is so tough to believe anything she says or feel sorry for her when she is having a breakdown. Adrienne does not seem to have people skills. I think deep down she is a kind person, but she does not know how to deal with others or always react with the appropriate emotion. Kyle is turning into the most self centered person on earth. I am really seeing where Paris gets it. Someone is having a nervous breakdown and Kyle is mad that it is intruding on her vacation. Pure Paris. As for Camille, well she was Camille. I think hiding in her room was her way of making sure she did not do or say something which would make her look bad. Kim? Well, she is obviously not better and I can't decide if shaming her on national television with her drinking issues is better for her or if she should just get help and avoid the spotlight for awhile. She is clearly not doing well. What was she saying on the phone? She loves planes and is going to wear a ponytail and she does it up the butt for coke? Oh, wait sorry. Had a flashback to her niece.

I thought 2.5 Men was pretty funny! Not intelligent humor funny. But more like end-of-a-long-tiring day funny. When you need to just relax, put your feet up, and numb your mind in preparation for bed.

did not watch Charlie's roast. Wonder if anyone had the guts to make jokes about his constant and un-apologetic wife beating.

The transition from Charlie to Ashton was good. Hope it gets better, still like simple well-written comedy over "reality tv". And too much murder in the CSIs and NCSIs and SVUs is just too much. Need simple lazy comic relief y'all!

I liked Two and a Half Men last night. I wish they would have done more with Angus. I think he's great. If they can keep up steam I think the show will do just fine.

Rita said...

The casualty of Angus ripping one out is priceless during solemn moments. No words needed.

BrandieMarie said...

LOL you aren't kidding. He was great as a kid, but I love him even more now that he's older. He's got a great career ahead of him I think.

Agree! Can't wait to see the interaction between Rose and Walden. Or the mother from hell and Walden. One thing has always been true for that show, the writing is amazing; my favorite episode is the one where the kid tells in front of the class what happened during the week-end at his uncle Charlie's house, i.e. the cuckold husband, the lost game boy.

What? No mention of The Playboy Club? I watched it for about 20 minutes and changed the channel. It got too boring too fast for my ADD.

"Two And A Half Men - It was a lot of jokes you could see coming from a mile away and some bad acting..."
Sorry, but this is EXACTLY what I thought of 2 and half men all along. One of the most unfunny, dull, sad sitcoms Ive ever seen.

BigMama said...

I thought it was funny as well. Ashton isn't great but the others in the cast are amazing. Wait till Rose sees Walden....nekkid. ;)

They did rip on his wife beating and the laughter was almost insulting. But mostly it was that uncomfortable "oh my" kinda laughter. I don't like roasts and am surprised I made it through that one but I didn't have any chocolate yesterday (diet from hell!) and my energy was too low to look for the remote. Mike Tyson once again confirmed he is looney toons, btw.

I have way too many favorites to ever choose one.

I've seen numerous articles today about how people felt Charlie being written off was done too quick and to the point. But with all the media hoopla surrounding him getting fired it wasn't like a surprise. EVERYONE knew he died. So why drag it out. I was thinking before I watched it "if they wait until like the last minute of the show to introduce Ashton because they waste the rest of it on Charlie I'll be pissed" I for one am happy with how they did it.

Rita said...

Besides, Charlie Sheen was not a great actor either, on that show, he was only playing himself. The surrounding cast and excellent writing made the show a hit.

Because I watch Nancy Grace(I know, hanging head in shame), I know that she is donating all her earnings to the Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

It's official: 2.5 Men drew more then 27 million viewers, while DWTS drew only 9.

Always good when true TV show wins over "reality".

Momster said...

It will be interesting to see if 2.5 men will have those same numbers a month from now.

never watched 2 1/2 men before and I won't start now. I watch my share of reality crap but the fact that that sitcom is still on and I've lost many shows that are smart, visually stunning, well-acted, etc. means I won't start with 2 1/2 men now.

And there was a lot of TV on last night that is FAR BETTER than the stuff Enty mentioned here. Like How I Met Your Mother and Castle.

Rita said...

So odd, other sites are saying DWTS attracted 9 million, while E! is saying 18 million... Maybe 9 million during the 2.5 Men showing.

Rita said...

What about 2 Broke Girls? I liked the sass of the brunette (forgot her name), and smacking of fingers in customers' faces, but not sure about the rich blonde, too predictable. But loved the ending of moneys saved, gives the show hope for when they won't be broke anymore!

BrandieMarie said...

agree with @amh.producer

How I Met Your Mother was my first priority last night. Hands down. I would say I'm surprised no one has mentioned that coming back yet but I know the 2.5 Men deal is Ashton. If it were just a regular season premiere I don't think there'd be as much attention. I still would have watched it, either way, but HIMYM ranks above 2.5 men for me.

BrandieMarie said...

I also did watch 2 Broke Girls. I like Katt Denning, but idk if I'll keep watching that one. I think if its on and nothing else is I would watch it, but it won't be on my list of weekly shows.

Rita said...

HIMYM did good. But am getting tired of the Ted Mosby always, almost, meeting his future wife. Prefer Barney's shenanigans... They did very good yesterday night. Can't say though that I loved the second episode.

The Bitch Next Door said...

Aside from the two (only) funny jokes you referenced I thought Charlie's roast was the worst/unfunniest ever. They didn't even have Lisa Lampenelli on the dais. Once you've seen the uncensored Bob Saget roast everything else fails. Charlie needs to go away....there's no sympathy for an overpaid druggie here.

JoElla said...

I watched 2.5 men last night and now I hate myself LOL

*hangs head in shame* and I even laughed ;/

BrandieMarie said...

or kat dennings? lol, i need to start spell checking.

Rita said...

That's it Bnl, Kat Dennings, forgot her name. Will give it another shot next week, see if it gets better. Loved that the rich girl said no to the loser, but really hot bf.

JoElla, no shame in loving comedy for comedy's sake. Need to unwind and laugh at the end of the day. For me, would rather get away from everyday tribulations and just appreciate a good fart joke.

Did anyone else think Carson Kressley has had lip injections? He looked more trout-pouty than ever.

Momster said...

My hubby said last night he's suing HIMYM for false advertising. We like the show, but it's wearing thin.

I got hung up at a work function until 9:30pm (on a Monday, MONDAY for crissakes!) and missed it all. The only show I was vaguely interested in watching was the one about the 2 Broke Girls and that one looked kind of iffy. The Big Bang Theory season premier is the one I'm looking forward to.

Maja With a J said...

I didn't watch any of it...I'm sad I missed the roast...because I love how inappropriate and vicious they always are...*L*. I've never watched 2 1/2 Men, but if someone wouldn't mind telling me how they kileld off Charlie Sheen's character, I'm curious!

RocketQueen said...

I watched the new 2.5 men, thought the beginning was great how they brought back all the old girlfriends, and Rose killing him because he cheated? Perfect.

Also watched the roast, which I enjoyed. I love how all the roasters roast each other, too. My favourite line was as follows: "With the amount of drugs he's done and the abuse he's subjected his body to, it's amazing he's still got all of his organs intact. In fact, the only thing he's had removed are his children!"

MnGddess said...

Completely disagree, ENTY. I thought 2 1/2 Men was very funny from beginning to end. I never watched the show before, but I'm going to watch it now.

I thought "2 Broke Girls" was *hysterical*, and I wasn't expected that at all. The brunette was super sharp, the sets were realistic for Brooklyn. Above all, the blonde was really good, so much better than I expected. I'm looking forward to watching this.

"2.5 men" -- the funeral scene was cruel, really dark, and simply exposed the dark side of each of the characters; it told the truth as a dramatic tool. Lorre is clearly super angry at Sheen -- and so are the actors (no one's really explored that side of this whole mess.) Good. Sheen deserves that, and worse. I thought Kutcher was funny; it's been so long since "Dharma and Greg" I recognized the husband as The Guy From Criminal Minds!

Momster said...

Maja, I didn't watch it but here's what Screen Rant had to say:
•In the Two and a Half Men season 8 finale, Harper flew off to Paris with Rose – his neighbor/stalker.
•Harper and Rose got married (during the fictional summer), but the relationship took a turn for the worse when she found him with another woman in the shower.
•The day after catching Harper in the shower with another woman, they were waiting for the Paris subway when Harper “slipped” in front of a moving car where his body blew apart upon impact.
•It’s implied that Rose pushed Harper in front of the subway and got away with his murder.

I watched 2 1/2 Men, and laughed out loud 4 or 5 times. Maybe I'm simple, but it worked for me. After all, the original Charlie-based show isn't exactly gold.

Also thought the funeral scene, and open house walk-ons, were cheap shots. Chuck Lorre having a tantrum.

I watched HIMYM. It could be that I have overexposure from watching it in syndication, but I'm pretty sick of Ted's love life. Barney and Robin's will-they-or-won't-they crap just wasn't believable, either (although I did love the dance routine.). That show is best when it gets wacky, and there wasn't nearly enough of that last night.

As for Two and a Half Men, Ashton's character seems like a grown up version of Angus's character. The dynamic will be more like One Man, One Boy and one Man-Boy. Still, I prefer it over pretty much any reality show. The funeral was cruel, but I still found it darkly funny that Rose had a hand in Charlie's demise. It was better than a car accident, at least.

Two Broke Girls was a little funny and a little boring, but I'm willing to give it a few more tries. Pilot episodes have to pack so much information into such a small period of time that it's hard to get it all right from the get-go.

I didn't watch DWTS yet, so I can't comment on that. I did watch Castle later. The biggest surprise of that show was how gaunt Stana Katic is looking. Does she have some health issues, or is this an eating disorder at work? She's always been slim, but seemed to be much more so this time around. Just wondering.

I also haven't seen the roast, yet, but we plan to find it somewhere soon.

HudsonJoe said...

Unless something changes radically ( or Chuck Lorre has pictures of CBS exec with Barnyard animals) "Two and a Half Men" will be dead by year end. Ashton is just plain bad.

"How I Met Your Mother" continues to work well on an individual scene basis yet the overall theme is tired. It is time to marry Ted off before no one in the audience cares.

"Two Broke Girls" has lots of promise.

On something I posted earlier re:
"2Broke Girls" -- for those who haven't been in NYC recently, we no longer have graffiti in subway cars. I assume they did that to stress that our subways are super dirty, more so than other cities' (BART, DC Metro, etc.) The crowd stuff *in* the subway car? Spot *on*, yo!

2 and 1/2 men just isnt my kind of humor. It falls in that Everybody Loves Raymond/King of Queens arena whereas I appreciate the more subtly intelligent jokes of Seinfeld/ Curb Your Enthusiasm/ Toddlers and Tiaras...hahahaha

I saw the Roast and RHOBH last night:

Roast- HIlarious. I thought Mike Tyson was ick nast (as usual) and literally DIED laughing when some female comic said to him it looked like he had a tramp stamp on his face:)))
I thought Charlie looked just as tore up as he did at the Emmy's. His nasuallly voice, his obvious dentures, his shrunken face and body...its all gross and past funny to me, so I just listened to the jokes and sorta blurred him out.

RHOBV--this show is SOOO boring this season!!!
Didnt think I'd want a new housewife in the mix but am SO glad that the new girl is coming up next week!
Taylor IS manipulating-- the DOES play the victim card, I think Lisa Vanderpoof (ha) was right about that

@Jasmine: Wow; that's something to have LITERALLY died because of a joke! What happened? Was it a stroke? How are you typing with us now? Someone was there with you and called and ambulance and you were revived? Is there any long-term damage? How are you inputting text? Is someone doing it for you? How are you communicating what you want to say? Your story is inspiring and I'm sure others will want to hear it! Consider shopping around a book proposal as well as a segment on something like "20/20"; they love heart-warming stories.

Keep us apprised of your progress, and hang in there! We're here for you!

I am so happy that Enty (and dude from dlisted) haven't forgotten the vile and racist comments Paris said in that video.....which by the way she never apologized for!! I don't understand anyone, especially the African American celebrities giving that infected piece of trash the time of day!!!!!

Lelaina Pierce said...

@skeeball - Yay for Nancy Grace!

I never watched Two & A Half Men before b/c I loathe Charlie Sheen & I never thought it was funny. I don't think Ashton will change my mind.

I missed the Roast and don't plan on watching DWTS. I don't know why you're surprised about Elisabetta. Aren't the model types usually always horrible dancers?

Totally agree on the Taylor stuff. I thought Kyle was a bitch last season so no surprises there. I thought it was really bad that they showed Kim's phone call, which frankly, wasn't that big a deal but embarrassing for her nonetheless.

RocketQueen said...

Wow BinkyM. So totally catty and unnecessary.

I watched 2 Broke Girls earlier and thought it was ok. I love Kat Dennings, so i'm gonna give it a shot.
