X Factor Is No American Idol

Although X Factor won some age demos in its premiere, it only drew 12.5M viewers in the US. To give you an idea, Jersey Shore attracted 10M viewers in its premiere this season and it is not on free television. In the number of viewers, X Factor lost to CSI, Criminal Minds, and Modern Family and this was for X Factor's premiere. It did about half the numbers American Idol does. Simon said unless 20M people watched he would be disappointed. And he should be because I have never seen so much hype or advertising for a show before. To have all that behind you and still only get those kinds of numbers show me the world is getting tired of singing or talent shows. How many different ways can you do it? I think X Factor would have done better if they had started before The Voice. The problem is that show was unique and kind of filled the gap along with America's Got Talent until the new season of Idol begins. I watched some of the premiere and it was ok, but it was nothing I had not seen before. Did you like it?

I get the feeling that eventually they're will be no audience for any TV show because everyone will be appearing in or working for the shows. And 90% of those shows will be "reality" shows, so we won't have to put up with writers anymore. Just keepin' it real.

Oops, I meant "there", not "they're".

I watched most of it, but honestly, I'm tired of the back stories. Don't want to know and I don't care - just have them sing. I thought Cheryl was fine and I could understand her perfectly. Paula is as Paula always is. I do love LA! He is entertaining just by being there. Nicole brought nothing to the table.

I watched it yesterday. Found had more heart than Idol, because of the audience present there from day 1. So if you were thinking of being an idiot just to be on TV, you better have guts: the audience will boo you to death!

The weirdest thing? It wasn't Paula and Simon that were bickering, it was more a battle of the Napoleons: Simon and LA Reid! Funniest, most fascinating thing ever!
Will tune in from time to time until the real competition gets under way, and if some of my favorites make it to the final 5.

Mikey - not to be mean, but didn't you find Nicole vapid and self-centered? The birthday, and the sudden y'all making an appearance in Texas? I don't find her necessary to the show... Maybe when she starts tutoring the kids (or very grown-ups) on stage presence and dance moves, we'll get to see more of her skills..?

I watched a little last night. It's just another Idol. People who suck should not be allowed on stage, period. I am sick of these tone deaf people arguing with the judges. It's been done to death. Also, done to death are the sad stories.

More importantly though... Nicole and Paula both looked good.

Agree...hate the back stories.

It takes too long into the show to see the singers. First night was 15 minutes of introducting the judges. Last night, we saw one singer in the first 20 minutes.

Love that the audience is there to boo or cheer.

Nicole is worthless. I'd rather listen to Cheryl's accent.

Hey Rita - I didn't find her to be anything good/bad, just kind of there. I did laugh to myself that Paula now had someone to dance with. I tivo and FF so much I could have missed her bad moments.

Mikey - True for Paula! What about Tuesday night's fight between Simon and LA? Was surprised that it's not a chick fight, but roosters'!

Rita - LA and Simon could get really interesting. I had to agree with LA, the girl was OK but she didn't make, as he kept saying, the hair on my arms stand up. I like how LA starts grooving in his chair. In spite of it all, LA somehow made Simon more likable to me.

Exactly! I would've never thought that anyone could make Simon likable. He is often right, and too-bluntly truthful, but never likable. It's still September, still a lot more shows will be premiering on same night as X-Factor, and we'll compare then :)

I agree mikey. Just get on with the singing already. That being said I don't watch any of these shows anymore. So over them.

I don't watch Idol. I watched both nights of X Factor and loved them both!

My God it seems so stale -- Simon and Paula together again, on ANOTHER singing competition. I haven't watched it because it's so literally been there done that with THEM before. Maybe it's a lot more than just me silently saying UGGGGG.

I think it's worth it for LA Reid. That guy makes Simon look sweet! I'll take X Factor over Idol. Nicole is not needed at all!

Too much hype, and it took too long to get on air. Idol showed last season that Simon wasn't necessary (and Simons schtick had gotten stale), and the Voice reinvented talent shows in the interim. Now x factor looks like a low rent idol.

No one in the States cares that x factor was big in the UK. And I've always thought x factor was only big there because pop idol stopped airing. I feel like I've been proven right.

I missed it! But I caught a hilarious clip on The Soup. I'm kind of over these shows, too. I do miss Simon/Paula, so I might tune in. Conan interviewed Nicole last week. She's pretty boring, but can do an excellent Britney Spears impression.

American living in London -- don't rule this show out yet. It gets really great.

I agree that The Voice took some of it's uniqueness. But it gets good....just watch.
