Glen Campbell had hoped to complete his latest tour before retiring, but his Alzheimers has progressed too far to let him to continue. Glen is still planning on releasing a final album and his wife says that there are days Glen still can manage to record a song or two, but that it is impossible for him to tour any longer. Glen Campbell turned 77 yesterday.

He had quite a full life with women, music and booze.
Hope his final days are peaceful ones.
At 77 I'd be skypeing my tours. It's called 'retirement' Glen!
Like a Rhinestone Cowboy.... now stuck in my head. Wishing him peace as well.
Hell of a way to end up. I seriously think I would eat a gun before I'd let a thing like that progress too far.
Glen, please know:
That you're waving from the backroads
By the rivers of my mem'ry
Ever smilin' ever gentle on my mind
I saw him in the fall on his goodbye tour. His younger kids were part of his band and you could really see his daughter keeping him in line. It was evident that he was having trouble - he became very agitated on stage because he got cold and then he couldn't move on from there. He still played guitar great. I wish him peace.
Dude never gets credit for his guitar skills, like a Clapton or Page or Hendrix, but I've seen some YouTube clips of him getting wicked on an acoustic that holds up to those guys.
I liked his music, not so much as a person. Isn't he the guy who gave Tanya Tucker a lot of grief?
I agree Count, he really can play the hell out of a guitar. And f**k Alzheimer's...
Yup, he was very abusive to Tanya Tucker I believe.
ugh, just a reminder of how we could end up. Alzheimers stinks.
@Topper Madison Thanks for those lyrics to clear my mind. Like the poster above said, "Rhinestone Cowboy" popped into my mind when I saw the headline. :-)
Glen Campbell gave my dad & me many hours of good music to listen to.
One of my favorites (tho I prefer the Issac Hayes version) is:
By the time I get to Phoenix she'll be rising
She'll find the note I left hangin' on her door
She'll laugh when she reads the part that says I'm leavin'
'Cause I've left that girl so many times before
Alzheimers is a horrible disease :(
sorry to echo everyone who's already said this but Alzheimers is awful, hideous, it's death in life for the everyone involved. I admire Glen Campbell for continuing to do what he loves for as long as he can. I've read Alzheimers is a genetic predisposition but you can also increase your odds by cutting out smoking, exercise, eating right. But esp cutting out the smokes.
I've cut out the exercise and eating right, but I have a hard time cutting out the smoking. 2/3 aint bad.
I was 6 when I saw him in True Grit. I cried when he died...I always enjoyed his Good Time Hour show and his music. I know he was a shithead to Tanya Tucker, true. I'm sorry he's so ill, I woulda loved to have seen him concert....Alzheimer's is terrible...and scary...
cornflower, Isaac and that song...happy memories:)
I wouldn't wish Alzheimer's on my worst enemy. Unfortunately this is hereditary and runs in both mine & my husband's families too. Sad.
@Agent**it Hhhhmmm...yeah, happy & warm memories. ;-) That was off his "Hot Buttered Soul" album (which I still have). Oh my, my. I feel a warm flush coming over me & it ain't a hot flash! Hee-hee-hee!
Wichita Lineman still gives me the chills. I love that song. I hope his remaining time is peaceful. He and Tanya were all the rage in the tabs back in the day.
@donner: "That's twice that Texican saved my life, once after he was dead!"
@Count: THERE'S a lifestyle program I can get behind!
Love to you and your family Glen....thanks for all the music and feuding- read alot of my Mom's Enquirers with you and Tanya on the cover...
Horrible way to end your life. Bless his wife and kids for taking care of him.
"Wichita Lineman" is THE SHIT to listen to when you're high! <3 that song.
I will regret that I never got to see him live. Alone he was great but in combination Jimmy Webb he was magical.
Last year I saw him interviewed about the Alzheimer's and his last tour. I think he genuinely wanted to make that last tour.
