Hi Katie - Low Key is correct - if you remember Eminem's song "Stan" from his first album I think - it is about a fan who is psycho-fixated on Eminem as a rapper and writes him all this wack fan mail and ends up killing someone or something - but the term "Stan" has been used to refer to rabid fans for quite some time now, it's a good reference.
Though only in the last 3 years or so do I feel the term has gone mainstream, for the record - just my opinion.
