I bet deep down he knows that other people know. This is just a comfort measure so he feels like he's in control of the situation. I feel bad for him in a way. I honestly wish these guys would come out of the closet. I thought society was better about this stuff now? I don't care if some prominent actor or personality is gay.
In some cases it's likely because the actor can't be marketed as a heartthrob anymore. But it's like with those guys from One Direction. The tween and teen fans were pairing them up on Deviant Art and fanfiction.net anyway and they thought it was cute. When people already know why hide it?
I'm not LGBT though. So maybe my perspective isn't on the mark. But I just fee like it's silly in 2018 to hide like this.
They get so far in to their lies, there is not point in which they can "come out" and maintain any credibility. i think that is why you see many gay people claim bisexuality early on - to save some face if they do get pushed or decide to come out.
