Blind Item #3

The directionally challenged rapper gamed the system. The system didn't appreciate it because they have their own payola system going on that is only legal because they call it sponsorship/advertising rather than what it is, which is payola. Labels buy "ads" for songs that suddenly shoot to the top of the charts.

Sounds like the scheme where people can buy their way onto the NY Times Best Seller list, and not necessarily by buying up the books.

wait, ppl are still listening to the radio for hits? In 2020 (four days old but still, lol) it’s typically streaming these days...better variety than radio, less ad breaks, possibility of paying for no ads at all...I mean seriously, silence has more variety than a Ryan Seacrest dj-ing

here in the UK the christmas number one (which is nominally a big deal, although not so much in the last 15 years since shows like pop idol and x factor came along, though their chart dominance has since dwindled) went to ellie goulding, who only got that high in the charts because her song was an "amazon exclusive" and automatically added to all of the christmas playlists on amazon music. this means that when people would say "alexa, play christmas music" to those creepy always-listening devices her song would always be played, even though most people were saying that asking for more classic christmas songs. it's just a scam that her label used for a boost in popularity.
