Alicia Silverstone Isn't A Sharer

Back in the day when fading stars needed a place to go, they went en masse to Love Boat and Fantasy Island to regain some of their popularity and to earn a few quick bucks. If you wanted to be on the show you knew that you were going to have share screen time with other fading stars and if you didn't want to, then you would not be asked back.

Apparently Alicia Silverstone thinks she is some kind of megastar. She was due to make a guest appearance on How I Met Your Mother, but when hearing that Britney Spears was making a cameo on the same episode, she pulled out.

Alicia thought it would be "chaotic." I think it is because she wants to be the center of attention because it happens so rarely now. Every couple of years some network will throw the dice and take a chance on her for a series which eventually dies an early death in the ratings. The only other time we ever see her is when someone trots out fat pictures of her, and then the inevitable, I lost 20 pounds article.

What Alicia should have realized is that the episode she could have guest starred on is going to be highly rated. Not Super Bowl or American Idol ratings, but higher than any of her disaster television shows have ever got. People would have said, "hey there is the chick from Clueless. They should put her in something again." Instead, Sarah Chalke from Scrubs jumped at the chance when Alicia said no.

I like Sarah Chalke better anyway.

I can sorta see where she is coming from - Britney has a very bad rep for not working hard, not being prepared, etc. (see VMA's for perfect example). If Alicia is trying to kick-start her career, she may not have wanted to take chances with anything going wrong and Britney is a big risk. It will be highly rated, but as gimmick casting - would AS have wanted to be associated with that and risk her chance?

Alicia who?

exactly.

Sarah Chalke is the shiznit AND a local girl. awesome.

Oh, please -- Chalke did the smart thing; now she'll be the sane cute blonde who'll steal the ep out from under Spears and make her look like hay. Silverstone had better dump her advisors; they steered her sooooo wrong.

I am no fan of AS, but who the hell wants to work with a bi-polar, attention whore like Britney? The whole thing sounds like a nightmare. It probably isn't worth the aggravation and the mental stress to work with that mess.

Isn't there a saying "there's no such thing as bad publicity"? This is funny. After all, Alicia is known for her dramatic roles, right? ;) While I normally don't watch this show, I'm sure I won't be the only one tuning in just for the Britney episode.

LOVE Sarah Chalke. She doesnt seem to have let success go to her head to the point of making bad career choices, like Alicia. She's funny, I think she'll do a really good job.

Alicia will probably get more publicity for turning down the episode than she would've gotten for being on it. Also, I think she's still up for a multi-ep arc on the show in the future.

I'm not sure I would opt to be involved with the same project as Britney Spears and her circus either....

She actually had a multiple-episode-arc planned and they had to rewrite the whole thing because Sarah Chalke had some scheduling problems with Scrubs. And TV Guide's Michael Ausiello even said that she was quite open about why she didn't wanna be in the same episode(s) as Britney, and it's exactly like you described it: She didn't want Britney to steal her spotlight.

whatever.......

haha no. but yeah, i'll never take her seriously. not because of clueless (i love that movie) but same reason as Brendan Frazer and Benicio delToro. Blast from the Past, and Excess Baggage.

Hey, I love Alicia Silverstone and will watch just about anything she's in. I'm glad she passed over Shitney. I wouldn't want to work with her either.

She never shuts up about being a vegan and she knew Brit would bring Taco Bell on set. The thought was too much to bear.

Before the strike I loved this show, now w/hiring that mess no way will I watch it ever again. Alicia was smart to back out.

That's a really hot bath towel she's wearing.

Alicia doesn't realize that more people would have at least seen her if she was on the same episode as Britney than if she were the sole guest. Her 'star' power is not nearly as powerful as she'd like it to be and will hardly draw any new viewers in.

Was she even going to share actual scenes with Britney? Or were they just going to be on the same episode? Either way, whatever. No, seriously. Whatever, Alicia.

wouldn't it be funny if brit actually pulls her shit together and does a good job?

@ notvotingforsuckno: brilliant!

I think she may have had to share Gayla. From what I read she was going to play a dermatologist and Britney is her assistant.

I'm not watching the show with BS and might as well give up watching it completely since this casting reeks of desperation. AS, I can take or leave but she gained some respect from me for recognizing a disaster when she sees one.

Hey...I think Alicia is cool. People have to make decisions based on something. This one had to be made because Sarah Chalke was meant for it.
