It is Friday so it is announcement time. Unless of course you are in Australia right now and then it is Saturday afternoon and you can already see Sunday and the next work week on the horizon. Sorry. So, this show was a favorite of a lot of people. It went off the air a few years ago, but not long enough where people don't remember it. Everyone remembers it. It was a comedy. Typical sit com stuff but designed for a younger audience and a big hit for lots and lots of years. Anyway, the female lead of the show has started opening up about her experience on the show and it is pretty revealing. Everyone who watched the show was in love with her and the actors on the show were no different. She was new to the whole experience and new to the attention that was being forced on her from every direction. She started the show as a minor but that didn't stop her from being hit in by everyone. She told me that 40 year old guys who were married with kids who worked on the show would hit on her and were always groping her. Always touching. When she talks about ti now she visibly shudders when she describes it. She says she can still feel their hands. They knew she would not do or say anything and she says sometimes four or five guys a day would be groping her. When she got older and began to really devlop she says it got way worse. Then, it was not just the groping but they also would ask her out or corner her. She said that she never really felt safe the whole time she was on the show and this was years. She did have a relationship with two of her co-stars, one of which took her virginity. Of course that actor told everyone so then the old men making moves on her grew more intense. She did admit to having a one season long relationship with a producer on the show who was married. She said he was so good looking and now she wouldn't have done it but she was 18 and didn't think about his wife and kids but only the fact that this boss saw her as attractive and didn't grope her so she went to lunch with him which turned into them getting hotel rooms and then it was over. She said that she almost died inside when he dumped her and also thought about killing herself. She didn't know how to deal with it. One of the actors she had sex with on the show later came out to her as gay even though he still has not to the rest of the world. She was miserable for years and when the producers wanted to do one more year of the show she told me she knew she would fall apart and never be the same and told them no more. They decided not to do another season. Her experience has left her so shattered she does not really do much anymore except live day to day and hang out with a few friends. She does not work, and has thought about acting from time to time, but just is afraid of what will happen.

Y'know this almost sounds like something that can be brute forced...take the list of sitcoms, filter for just those cancelled in between 2000 & 2009 (remember Enty said "a few years ago", which is why I think Step by Step is too old), then remove those that haven't run for at least 3 seasons. I am going to go out on a limb and guess Miley Cyrus for several reasons-one she has pretty much told her father to stfu-that she had dirt on him. Two-she left the show right about the age of 18, after much speculation of whether she would continue. Three-although she has done some things since (and I am not sure when these shows were actually filmed), she has remained pretty subdued in her career in contrast to when she was on the show.
This has got to be Shelley Fabares from the Donna Reed Show or Susan Dey from The Partridge family.

I am on the Danielle Fishel bandwagon for sure. Yes, it's true, she has worked since the end of Boy Meets World, but:
a) They couldn't keep going without her- Topanga and Cory had gotten married in the last season and a family-friendly show like that wasn't going to kill her off or (gasp!) divorce the two...
b) She was arrestedfor DUI in 2007... battling demons? She also struggled with her weight.
c) Taken verbatim from IMDB: "Revealed in an interview with a LA radio station that a former boyfriend, who was an actor and whom she dated almost 10 years prior, physically abused her. [2008]" Perhaps it was one of the scumbags who tok advantage of her?
d) Acting in an ensemble comedy is not the same as having her own show (I've never watched her show, though- I read above that it's a fashion show). She probably has more control over what she does/says/wears than in a scripted sitcom.

Gonarin, when I read what you posted, I suddenly remembered that Topanga had a famous boyfriend for a few years - Lance Bass! She bearded for him for a few years - not sure if she knew - or he guested on the show. Dewon Sava is the actor suspected of beating her. She did have weight issues, which quite a few abused children have. She also had a drinking issue - another coping mechanism as you noted. I read an old story via a google search called Casper beat Topanga, from Perez Hilton, back in 08. She had gone on a radio show hungover and talked about being beaten by a famous ex. Process of elimination had many people guessing the kid who played Casper. She also talked about regretting some tattoos she had gotten. One at her neck, the other a "tramp stamp." Even if she is doing well now, I can see this easily being her or Lisa Turtle.

She has done 4 things since the show ended in 2000, and all were voice over work for video games. Before the show, she worked consistent acting jobs for 10 years.
And, if you look at the Hang Time IMDB board, there is a thread for favorite characters. She is the most named female character (by far) which would cover the audience loved her clue.
Boy meet world started in 93 and ended in late 99. I would say that is definitely longer than a few years ago.

Not sure if it's her, but Danielle Fishel is kind of a mess. I went to college with this guy who was a club promoter and he told this story about he and his buddies meeting her, and her proceeding to have sex with all of them right after the other. She was also wasted/high off her ass. He showed me pictures to prove it, since I didn't believe him at first.

George Clooney (I love him, but has been rumored to be gay for years) was on Facts of Life from 1985-86.

Why are there so many people who don't get that all "a few years ago" means is that you can reasonably assume that it's not I Love Lucy or something like that?
Didn't we have a blind several months back that was described the same way and it was a show from the late seventies or the eighties? I feel like a veteran commenter (himmmm maybe even?) said something in the comments about the timeline being relative. Like, in the grand scheme of things, twenty years is not really that long or something like that.
And moreover, nothing from 2000 onwards is really looking like a sure bet to most people here, so doesn't it just make sense to look backwards?
at first i though it was the girl who played Laura on Family Matters because she was really young when the show started, then the show focused a lot more on her and she grow up to become this gorgeous lady. So i looked at her IMDB page but it didnt fited the description because she's been in few tv shows or movies i never heard about.

@Lizzie: IIRC, it was both LiLo & Mandy Moore; hadn't heard about Hilary, but I could see it being true. For some unknown reason, there was a time in the early 2000s where he seemed to be the main devirginator of way too many young actresses, and for the life of me, I can't figure out why. He either has some kind of charisma close up, or he's incredibly good at manipulating young women, because he sure as hell doesn't have anything else to recommend him...

This is definitely amanda bynes. she started what i like about you as a minor. it was a sitcom catering to a younger audience. she dated her costar nick zano in 2003 when she was 17. she clearly matured over the course of the show. she then "retired" from the business and has had a string of alcohol related incidents as all she is doing is hanging out with friends/enablers and not working.
