Blind Item #2 - Reader Blind - Kindness

This deceased multiple Emmy winning personality who is very much part of pop culture is most famous for the two television shows he created, wrote episodes of, and appears at the beginning and end of. The more famous one has been rebooted a couple of times including recently.  He also had a distinguished career as a writer of screenplays and teleplays .

He established a foundation which still operates to this day that provides scholarships, grants and other financial assistance to writers as well as students in other fields.  This foundation has helped many people start their careers.  He was known personally for always having time to give advice to young writers.

In his personal life, with Veteran’s Day around the corner, he was a war hero who was awarded a very prestigious medal for his service. His wartime exploits would make a good movie in and of themselves.

Rod Serling. My fave Twilight Zones were when they were doing some period drama but Rod would still appear on the set to do the intro, totally out of time. Watch and see--its really funny

You're right. It's Rod Serling. There's a scholarship at Ithaca.

I received the Rod Serling scholarship. Years later I was able to thank his daughter, personally. The Serlings really are/were the sweetest, most generous people.

Rod Serling -- what a genius! He wrote something like two-thirds of the original TZ episodes himself...

i sent a short story i wrote to rod serling when i was about 12. this is a very long time ago, when 'twilight zone' was the hot thing on tv. he was my idol.
the story was pretty good, or so i thought at 12, and i was very proud of it. he wrote me a letter (which i wish i still had) telling me he had enjoyed my story and to keep writing. i felt like the luckiest kid in the world.

Thanks for sharing this great blind, Reader!

Rod Serling...I've always liked him bc my mom LOVED him and his shows. How great to know he was generous and a hero, as well as being so creative. Truly and enduringly an influential creator and person.

Rod Serling nurtured a ton of young creators, including Steven Spielberg.

Rather see a Rod Serling bio movie than a Mr. Rodgers bio movie.
