i watched the EMAs as if I'd already seen it. Always the same narrow people, the same mindless chatter. I felt like I was standing at a great precipice, with no one to pull me back, no one who cared... or even noticed
I will say this. For real alcoholics, it keeps them alive to drink. True story. MANY years ago I was sober, for more than 20 years actually. This friend of mine in the program was married to a famous person, and she was a real alcoholic. VERY PRODUCTIVE and ASTUTE but wasted all the time. ANywho, she got sober for a couple of years and went on the road with the husband. She was in another country and everyone in their realm KNEW she didn't drink. She flipped out, and had a major anxiety attack. Probably all the travel and jet lag and hotels etc. so the person who was sort of her handler called her "sponsor" in AA. She said call her Judy says if she doesn't have a drink she is going to kill herself. The sponsor said FOR GOD's sake give her a drink.
It's one day at a time for a reason. Most days people are doing the best they can, even if it doesn't look like it. I can't judge him or anyone and why would I want to ? Fuck I couldn't handle that kind of scrutiny EVER. It's enough to drive a man to drink. Or something like that.
