This is actually from the day prior to the Academy Awards, but it happened in the theatre so I think that is close enough. So, this actor who is A list all the way but has never been nominated for anything that great had a part in the actual show telecast. Comic actor. Mostly movies. Apparently though on Saturday he decided that it was his role to piss everyone off with his behavior. He yelled at the writers of the show saying their work wasn't good enough for him and made them change his lines three times. Surrounded by people who had been working almost 24 hours straight doing backbreaking work, our actor who spent a grand total of one hour at the theatre started snapping his fingers when it was time for him to rehearse and yelling that he had places to go and didn't have time to sit around waiting. I really hate the whole snapping the fingers thing. He seems to like it though.

ITA, Shakey. Joaquin is an extremely talented, twice-nominated actor. Why would Stiller think it was even good taste to make fun of his potential drug problem and/or mental breakdown? AND Ben copied the whole routine from someone else!

Oh! I wanted to mention about hunger-- I have Crohn's, and was VERY bad off from last October until April. Not being able to eat, always nauseated, etc. I am 5'7" and was down to 98 pounds. I will say, from recent personal experience, that hunger ABSOLUTELY screws your brain up. You act like a reactionary freak about everything. Temper tantrums, crying, overreacting, everything. Something in your brain just totally snaps. It's strange because it's so primal and uncontrollable. You can even see yourself acting crazy, but you can't stop.
Ben Stiller used to be a crush of mine. Even is he were a nice guy, he is WAY WAY too skinny, nasty and unhealthy to be attractive to me anymore.
What an egotistical jerk . . never could stand Ben Stiller.

I have heard so many times that he is a dick and had a hard time believing it. I guess I'm going to have to start believing. I wonder if he is also the actor who is looking for a new assistant that he can treat like shit for a six figure salary?

@libby, so sorry to hear about your health problems, that sucks! isn't that the one where you can't metabolize wheat and sugars and what not? how are you doing now?

Comedic Tom Cruise??? I think Tom is a little (a lot) crazy, gay, controlling, but I never thought of him as a dick.
I hated Ben Stiller from day one. Blue Steel is ironic, because Stiller can only do one shtick.
Bunny, I don't have access to my Facebook acct. right now, so I will answer here.
Crohn's is autoimmune. It leaves you with scar tissue in your intestines. If it gets really bad, you have tons of nausea, abdominal pain, and vomiting.
I'm okay right now, but it's something that goes in and out of remission. I am doing much better than I was, for sure!

This makes me sad--I really used to like Ben Stiller and thought he was probably a nice guy.
Here's the "stranger than truth" thing. If you watch the first episode of the first season of the BBC series "Extras", which for those that don't know, is the series that Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant went on to create after their successful series, "The Office", finished its 2 season run on the BBC, the guest star in the first episode is none other than Ben Stiller. In it, Ben plays himself, (as all of the guest stars do, throughout the series), and the plot is that he's in England to direct a Balkan War movie, on which the character played by Ricky, "Andy", is an extra. The climax of the episode is an argument between Ben and "Andy", where Ben comes off as a pretentious ass. It's always amazing to me that actors will choose to play characters that are so close to what they really are, like that. At least it seems that way in hindsight now. Do they suppose we'll think, "Oh well he's so good playing an ass, he must be a really nice guy.."?
BTW, if you're a fan of the show, then you need to watch Episode 3, and check out Kate Winslet's guest star stint. If she's got that great of sense of humor for real, then I love her even more..
jas, I saw both shows. I was shocked Ben Stiller would agree to play such an ass. It is worth watching, people. Especially when Andy makes the crack about Starsky and Hutch. So true!
And yeah, Kate Winslet was hysterical!
