NY Post Blind Items

Which Hamptons hotelier was at his bar drinking with more than 20 patrons one weekend night at 12:45 a.m. when he suddenly stood up and ordered everyone out, "Now!" -- told them they didn't have to tip or pay their tabs, just get their coats and go, and "then sat there drinking by himself," said our source .

WHICH members of Congress make regular, secret visits to Cuba as guests of Fidel Castro, flying in from nearby islands? Their passports aren't stamped, so no one's the wiser.

No clue.

As for the second one. Why are still at war with Cuba again?

1) Is this a kindness blind?
2) Republicans

Enny said...

Oh no, Ms Cool, much as you may hate Repubs they are not hanging out with Castro. Cynthia McKinney and her ilk would be my guess.

1.Ted Conklin

2. Harry Reid is all I can think of

Sue Ellen Mishkey said...

Which Congressional members? Hmmm. There's only, like 300, or so. Throw a dart why don't you?

Sue Ellen Mishkey said...

It's not Harry Reid. He's busy being the Majority Leader of the House. Plus, I think he's recognizable enough to be noticed in Cuba.

Pookie said...

lol @ the thought of repubs hanging w/ the commies!

i'm gonna guess maxine waters (dem, CA). she, in all her ignorance, has praised fidel quite a bit over the yrs. comemierda.

CUBA IS AN ALMOST UNTOUCHED OASIS JUST WAITING FOR THE GREED OF CORPORATE AMERICA, EVERYONE IN WASHINGTON MUST BE DROOLING....

I think there's more than one as member is pluralised.

It's nice to be Canadian and be able to visit Cuba legally, not that I can afford to do so.

There are 3 couples from my small town getting married in Cuba over the spring break.

looserdude said...

I agree we should normalize relations with Cuba, but it is most certainly not the socialist paradise that some folks make it out to be.

MISCH said...

I HAD A DEAR FRIEND WHO WAS CUBAN, HAVING TO ESCAPE WITH ONLY WHAT YOU CAN CARRY, FROM YOUR HOMELAND LEAVES A REALLY BAD TASTE IN THE MOUTH...HE ALWAYS SAID HE WOULD NEVER GO BACK....

Mango said...

Does The Donald own a hotel in the Hamptons? He's the only famous hotelier that I can think of.

Enny said...

Oops, I think Crazy Eyes McKinney is actually no longer in office. So I am on board with Pookie's Maxine Waters guess. Who else is likely to have gone with her?

Sue Ellen Mishkey said...

@Jingle Belle

I think it's funny when Americans come here just to fly into Cuba. I feel bad that the Cuban gov.(I'll be nice and call it that) hates America so much. It must be awful to be hated like that. Of course, we have no idea what that's like. ;)

timebob said...

#1 Ian Schrager, he has to own a hotel or two in the Hamptons.

#2 all of them

K said...

Shazzba, I pleaded to have my UK passport stamped when I went to Cuba, but they refused. They just don't do it.

And isn't there a flight that leaves every day from Miami to Havana that isn't publicised?

Yup, US is just waiting for Castro to die and take over. I'm glad I saw the country before Corporate US moves in...

I take it they are just there for the hookers and the Cigars.

Michel K's Boo Anderson Cooper needs to get on this story pronto.

nunaurbiz said...

No idea on these blinds and really don't care but I think Kim Z is just being gay for publicity, if ya know what I mean. wouldn't put that past her.

And of COURSE, if ANYONE has a gaydar, it's Simon. Why doesn't HE come out of the closet! MEOW

Seachica said...

Political blinds like this one really anger me. This is not some celebrity froth that doesn't affect anyone. This is illegal activity, that potentially compromises US security. Don't put up a blind about this. If you have enough evidence, write a story. If you don't have enough evidence, report it to the authorities to investigate. Don't get people speculating (and likely speculating incorrectly) about political activities. Stuff like that undermines our confidence in our government, and is not fair to those politicians who are *not* compromising their position.

@valerie

You should be more upset that your politicians are doing this rather than getting all upset that the NY Post has a blind about it.

At least Cuba has universal healthcare. We on the other hand, couldnt care less about the middle class and poor. Corporate US will rape and pillage Cuba for its resources as we do time and time again.

Perhaps, Sue Ellen, people can decide for themselves what makes them upset and don't need you telling them how they should feel.

The fact that a legitimate news organization (regardless of how you feel about its political leanings) has information about illegal activities by elected officials pisses me off more than the fact that politicians are committing crimes. People will always commit crimes, and the media is supposed to help keep them honest.

Thanks for your concern.

Sue Ellen Mishkey said...

Don't tell me what to say or how to feel either, removedbygov. I'll say and do what I want.

Isn't it sad that how the media reacts(or doesn't react) is more likely to get a rise out of people than what the politicans themselves do. And on that note, I'm sure if the media REALLY had something that would blow the eyebrows off of people, they would certainly scream it from the front page and not bury it in a blind item.

I spent a week in old Havana in 2006 for my "illegal honeymoon." Won't say where we flew in and back from...but wasn't Canada or Mexico.

All the young people we met said they hate Fidel...all said "Fidel is crazy" while circling their finger near their heads.

The said their parents all loved Fidel b/c they all got (some) electricity and a TV set after the Revolution. Now almost 50(?) years later, the dang place is in shambles.

But the people are awesome to Americans! They were very proud and appreciative that we took the time and effort to "sneak in," be interested in them and spend our $$$.

Would go back in a heartbeat.

brakewater said...

oh, Borg Queen. Your title is fitting. Follow the borg, and hope and change while you are at it. 10% approval rating for Congress right now. I assume you are one of them.

selenakyle said...

Also, we ate food from the USA--Virgina was written plainly on some apple crates, and NC on boxes of frozen chicken in one restaurant! We drank American sodas, watched US-based TV sets (aren't RCA and Panasonic US companies?) So the embargo is stupid as f*ck, and the whole thing needs to be finished so Americans can visit.

The US companies found a way around it long ago, via Mexico. Duh, how hard is that for the US Gov't to figure out?!

Of course, there is likely much opposition still coming from Fidel.

It's just idiotic, old-school bullsh*t, IMO.

mooshki said...

LOL, Harriet!

IMO, there is no side of the angels when it comes to Cuba. I just hope our relationship will get better in the future.

Melody the First said...

Sue Ellen, if you're telling someone else how to feel, I don't think you have a right to be indignant about THAT person telling you how to feel. That smacks of hypocrisy.

There are lots of ways into Cuba. I have friends who've gone. I don't care to but everyone knows the "cold war" is a joke.

Cuba doesn't hate us; we don't hate Cuba (Cuba being the people and not the bullying demagogue at its helm). Canadians on this board however seem to have a major problem with Americans 24/7. LOL And sorry, every bigot thinks they have "reasons" for their hatred so spare me the excuses.

And no, I'm not going to reply to the replies. What's the use? It never changes.

selenakyle said...

@ valerie's comment--I thought we saw fairly recent photos of US celebrities, entertainers and/or sports stars hanging in The National (famous big old hotel).

I think they can visit on certain terms, from what I understood at the time.

And divers are allowed to moor up and dive off the Bay of Pigs, but just aren't supposed to spend any money on land.

I believe technically the issue is spending money there, not physically being there in person.

Not sure if Senators are supposed to do any of it, of course...

Sue Ellen Mishkey said...

I don't really care how Americans feel about their Congree cause it doesn't effect me. All I was trying to say was that they should care more about what is actually going on, than what is being reported. You know, cause that poster was real upset at the NY Post for doing that sort of a blind. All I know is that I would be pissed at the gov. for being so shady. So you can all get off my ass now.

Sue Ellen Mishkey said...

and @ Melody

So typically American. Say what you want and then put your fingers in your ears when someone responds.
*lalalalalalalala*

And aside from hearing "Guantanamera" fifty freaking times a day, we realized entrepreneurial and capitalistic spirit are alive and well in the tourist areas!

I just hated seeing people live in such sub-par conditions and with so much air pollution (in the city). They were very well educated and appeared extremely healthy--a shining example of a crappy-ass oppressive gov't but that at least the socialistic side of it takes medical and educational care of it's people. If a Mom refuses to send her kids to school, she can be sent to work camp (prison)!

Syd said...

I could easily see Sheila Jackson-Lee doing this.

Page Six blinds about politics are very suspect. Remember this is a Murdoch tabloid. The real NYPost Page Six reporters are handed these to publish (since neither they nor the Post as a whole have a crack team reporting in Washington.)This is an outlet the Murdoch/Fox News gang use to make snide allegations they don't have to prove. A few have been refuted in the past. But it"s impossible to refute a blind where no one is named. Believe what you like, but realize in situations like this the Post's ownership has an agenda. And anyway, I dont think we should have political gossip on this site because it causes fights we dont want.

RocketQueen said...

The only thing I wanted to say is that it's unfair of Melody the First to generalize and say that "Canadians on this board seem to have a problem with Americans 24/7". That's utterly ridiculous and untrue and frankly, I resent it.
I'm Canadian and some of my best friends are Americans. Do not paint us all with one brush or you're in danger of displaying the very behaviour you're condemning.

Anotheramy said...

1)I dont know any hoteliers but kicking people out of the bar when they annoy you sounds like fun.

2) If the only illegal thing these Congress people are doing is vacationing with Fidel we need to be sure they get reelected. Who is to say, if these visits are really happening, that they're not political in nature? Also an important thought, isnt Fidel said to be in very poor health?

moi said...

The reason there's still an embargo with Cuba is that you can't win a nationwide election without winning Florida and you can't win Florida without winning the Cuban exile community, and you aren't winning the exile community unless you take a hardline anti-Castro stance.

Also, if the Post really has a story, they need to run it, not do a blind item. That they're doing it in a blind leads me to believe that it's made up but intended to smear certain politicians, or that it's innocuous and legitimate but they want their readers to believe something is up.

Van said...

'moi' is correct about this being a non-story. Members of Congress do not randomly sneak into other countries. These are back-channel talks that have been going on for a long time, which are now being leaked by right-wingers in order to sabotage them.

Seachica said...

Sue Ellen, thanks for telling me how to think...so glad someone is taking the time to do that for me (sarcasm dripping). Thank you to everyone who stepped up to defend me!

As for being pissed at the government...see, this is exactly what I'm upset about. It is counter-productive to society to get upset at the general government. If I knew who the congresspeople were, I'd be upset at them for their illegal behavior. But by not knowing who is committing this crime, people like you turn it into a 'government is awful and corrupt' discussion, which unfairly implicates politicians who are obeying the law and not acting out of turn. I want to be able to be upset (and vote out) those who are causing the problem, without undermining society's distrust of the government in general.

And whoever said they're upset at the media for not doing their job - ITA.

This isn't celebrities, who at the end of the day are meaningless to my life. It is politicians, who I hire to do a job.

Unknown said...

Considering that China owns so much of the US at this point, I find it appalling that we are still using Communism as an excuse not to normalize relations with Cuba. DUMB!

Ninabeth84 said...

@ Syd

Well since the visits are done in secret, that means no cameras. I doubt the involvement of Sheila Jackson-Lee in any operation where there isn't any press or media for her to blowhard in front of.
