This Is A Reality Show

Maybe it is just because I am a guy and the idea for this show appeals to me because of my gender, but G4 announced today they have ordered 10 one hour episodes of Bomb Patrol: Afghanistan. The show is being billed as a reality version of Hurt Locker. To me watching the life and death struggles of these brave men and women is way more entertaining and valuable than spending another 22 minutes watching Kim and Khloe decide which lip gloss they should use. Yes, there is a place for mindless entertainment. I get it and I love things that are mindless as much as the next person, but I also think if you make every program the same mindless crap that you will have an entire generation who wants to be exactly like a Kardashian or a Hilton and there will be a dearth of people who want to be something else.

I also would love to see some of these reality "stars" have to go out and do the jobs that are documented in some of the grittier reality shows. Go have Kim Kardashian spend some time on a crab boat. Have Snooki go handle one of the Dirty Jobs Mike Rowe visits. Hell, have Paris Hilton go teach a geometry class to a group of high schoolers for a week.

Paris thinks geometry is a place in Russia.

Also, I think this is one reality show I might actually watch.

Ha! I love the idea of Paris and geometry...she probably thinks that what a acorn says when it grows up. And that's my bad joke of the day.

Well Enty, I sadly believe we already HAVE "an entire generation who wants to be exactly like..." a LOT of the total dip-shits we see on TV every day.

This includes videos as well as well as "reality TV" and on down the line.

If I sound old and crotchety, well so be it. Fuck it. We are becoming an Idiocracy and it is SCARY.

I confess I am not a reality TV watcher (except HGTV, if that counts). But I watched an episode of K&K take Miami. What boring lives they all have, despite obvious wealth.

No respect left for Bruce Jenner. No one in that family has any passion for any cultural arts, giving back, exploring the outdoors or current events. So very sad and shallow.

Bring on Bomb Patrol. Launch one toward Miami to a store called "Dash."

...and God (Jah, Jahweh, Jehovah...whomever) PLEASE bless and keep the guys and gals in Afghanistan. Amen.

Well said selenakyle.

I don't think I'll be watching it but it certainly is refreshing to hear about a new concept for reality TV.

Well, we had a show where we saw Paris doing things like "the common folk" and she didn't take that too seriously. I think your angle would only be good in a court mandated situation, Enty. :)

Oh dear LORD - Bomb Patrol sounds horrifying!!!

Would be good for people to see some reality, but I don't think I want to see real people get blown up, that sounds traumatic.

I'm with Dawn. I don't want to see brave men and women get blown up.

Now, Kim Kardashian, she might get blowed up real good. As for crabbing, Captain Harris would have tossed her over with the bait traps in the first ten minutes.

OMG. Paris trying to teach geometry?
I'd pay to see that. Hell, I'd even get cable to see that.

Agree with the first paragraph, Enty, but not the second. I have no interest in watching the Kardashians or Paris do ANYTHING for money anymore. That's what got them to where they are.

there is absolutely nothing ENTERTAINING about our men and women putting their lives on the line overseas. epic fail!

Didn't mtv have a show where they took spoiled teenagers and put them in situations where they had to live in a completely different environment/lifestyle? I seem to recall seeing snippets here and there. It's the parents that signed them up because of their spoiled attitudes.

I don't know if I want to see a show like Bomb Patrol. I know they won't show any deaths, but still ...

As the wife of a deployed Army EOD soldier, I definitely have some mixed feelings about this show ... not sure if I could watch or not. I am hoping that doing something like this would not risk their security in any way ... if it does, it is most certainly not worth it.

I wish they had to work at Wal-Mart or a fast-food chain for a month. And survive on the pay alone. And no vacation time without pay, just like all the other workers. And work Labor Day too of course. But then that wouldn't be escapist viewing would it?
