It's A Boy - Lets Get A Divorce

Steve Nash welcomed a new son on November 12th and today announced he was getting divorced from the mother of the new baby. In a statement, Nash said, "I am very thankful and excited that we have a new son, Matteo Nash. Alejandra and the baby are doing fine. But this is a bittersweet moment for my wife and I; after five years, we are now in the process of dissolving our marriage. While we have lived separately for the past several months, we remain firmly committed to raising our children in the most positive, nurturing way possible."

If they have been separated for several months, I am guessing it is probably a bit longer, but I don't think Steve is the kind of guy who left when he found out his wife was pregnant. It sucks for not only the newborn, but what makes you announce something like this three days after the baby is born? Probably because something will break about how one of the two is with someone else now so best get the news out before people start whispering.

I'm guessing Enty nailed it. Expect news about one of them messing around SOON.

Yep. I am guessing its him, based solely on the fact that I dont think you are too concerned with messing around when you are several months pregnant... but I guess that is prejudice on my part!

If he admitted having left early in the pregnancy, people would have suggested the kid isn't is. I agree he's the one stepping out.

Who?

I'm hoping it's not him. I knew him through friends in college and he always seemed like a stand-up and pretty down-to-earth guy. But, you never know, I guess.

Or maybe they were having problems before this pregnancy - could have been an "oops" or could have been a "maybe a baby will make things better" type of situation and they realized that it wasn't fixing anything and it was time to make the split. Making the announcement at the same time as the baby's birth is a tad unusual, I'll grant you, but it doesn't automatically mean that one of them is stepping out.

I met him when he was still playing here in Dallas. Very nice man and wonderful to his fans. It's a bad situation all together. Poor kids...

From the Tom Brady playbook.

My brother knows him and they've been having trouble for awhile. The rumor is that he is never around and they probably just grew apart. I believe Enty posted a picture of him with his girls several months back and I commented that he was not wearing his ring. How long ago was that Enty? Spring? Anyway, he is a standup guy and cool as hell. I would hate to hear that it has to do with infidelity.

Why do people who want to sound smart say things like "it is a bittersweet moment for my wife and I?" It is such a pet peeve for me to hear that. It should be "it is a bittersweet moment for my wife and ME." And this was a statement release by his publicist???

That and a combo-birth announcement/divorce-accouncement is pretty poor form.

FAIL!!!

@Ice Angel - I agree! :(

So did the problems begin after she got pregant? Or were they having problems all along....Did she get pregnant to "fix" the marriage?

"for my wife and ME" not "my wife and I." Can't anyone at all use decent grammar, even in a prepared statement written by a PR professional?

Krab said...

Ooops, should have read all the comments.

While I'm at it, Enty, you need to stop writing "for awhile." "Awhile" means "for a while." So "for awhile" means "for for a while."

You're supposedly an entertainment lawyer, although I have my doubts because frankly you don't seem any more familiar with the law than I am, so you should be able to write a decent English sentence.

@timebob & sunnyside - not just an NBA player, but the MVP for a couple (more?) years in a row. Great player.

@ Krab: I know lots of lawyers who don't have good grammar. If they have good assistants, the assistants correct their grammar in motions, etc. I know sometimes Enty doesn't seem to know about CRIMINAL law, but Enty is an entertainment lawyer. Difference.

On topic, I've never heard anything but good things about Steve Nash from people I know who know these things. (Never heard anything bad about his wife, either.)

OK, this IS a bit odd, I must say! From the Arizona Republic:

The Suns announced Matteo Nash's birth in a news release Friday, but the crews doing the radio and television broadcasts of Friday night's game against Sacramento were under orders not to mention it.

The 36-year-old Nash had 28 points and 14 assists in the Suns' 103-89 victory over the Kings, then left the locker room before reporters were allowed in afterward.

His wife is apparently a controlling witch who he wanted to leave before she got pregnant the first time. They weren't trying but somehow she got pregnant so he stayed. He loves his kids, but he hasn't been in love with his wife since he realized she was only there for his money very shortly before she got pregnant with their first kid. He is the most stand up guy ever. You can believe it or not, I know everyone takes "celeb connections" with a grain of salt. He's really my only one, and I certainly never expected to see him on this site, his dad was my soccer coach in high school, his sister was my age and a friend back then, and I'm still very close with a good friend of their family's. Steve and I went to the same high school (although years apart, he gradded in 92, I was in 98). But I'm not surprised they broke up, just surprised it took him this long to leave her.

I think the grammar is dependant on your country. He is Canadian, is he not? Growing up I was always taught "my wife and I" would be the proper way to say it. It has nothing to do with sounding intelligent. And woe be to me if my proper English grandmother ever heard me say "_____ and me"

RocketQueen said...

lol - no. Proper and correct English grammar does not vary by country. Spelling sometimes yes ("our" vs. "or" for flavour, color, etc), grammar, no.

"My wife and I" is incorrect and the way I was taught to know whether to use "me" or "I" is to remove the other person from the sentence - it makes it easy. So this sentence, without the wife, would read "...this is a bittersweet moment for ME." If you look at it that way, "I" is obviously incorrect.

Same with "Do you want to come with X and me?" is correct, and "I" would not be.

Sometimes it is good to KNOW things. Steve is a great guy, and the nail was hit on the head in describing his bitch wife. He is a stand up guy and stayed because she got pregnant. She was only in it for the money. Pityful, because he really is a great person as a whole.

Don't know who the dude is. But if this loser has a baby with his wife and moves on while she is pregnant, he is clearly a piece of shit.
