I think Cher is the right answer here. @Tricia13 There have been rumours for years (especially in the Motown inner circle) about Diana Ross allegedly taking sexual advantage of Michael Jackson when he lived with her for a short while (whilst the Jackson family were relocating from Gary, Indiana to LA) He was 11 at that time. I’m not sure how much truth there is to it. MJ famously referred to Diana as being like a Mother, a lover and a friend all rolled into one. I’ve never heard anything else about her and underage boys though. Whoever said it (probably Cher), it's true: it was a different time. In the late 60s and 70s, and into the 80s for some, there was a belief that the sexual taboos were all going away, including the one about age. It was a New Age, after all. So they were all banging whoever was handy and willing, and they weren't checking ID. If you disapproved of that, you were a square, probably closeted, and needed to relax, man, and get with the program.
Normal society put the brakes on that in the 1980s, due to AIDS as much as anything, and the leftward ratchet slipped back a notch. The dedicated libertines weren't willing to give up the new sexual freedom that easily, though, and the ones wealthy enough to cover their tracks and keep their STDs treated didn't have to.
None of that is to say that it was right, or to justify anyone.
But of course, Madonna can't even use "it was a different time" as an excuse, if the Timothee Chalamet story is true (it was posted a day or two after the Oscars if anyone needs to look it up).
