Blind Item #2

With the feds about to crack down on payola to some of the biggest radio stations/conglomerates in the country, suddenly the stations/conglomerates stopped taking the money and songs that were expected to be hits are dying because they suck and no one is forced to play them. That A+ list singer/writer and A list rapper's recent effort together is one of those that died.

Music is dead anyways. Same old bilge from the same old talentless fake wannabes.

Agree with above. Music is trash. Rarely listen to the radio now.

I’ve long suspected that many of the “hit” songs aren’t really as successful as the radio portrays. I didn’t know how it was happening but I knew there was some trickery going on. Sad there’s such deception going on.

I'm curious is this is I Heart Radio. Somehow the DJs (at least on the radio show I listen to in the morning on the way to work) "manage" to find a new/unreleased hit at least once a month and play it while stating that they will get in trouble for doing so.

don't listen to any new music really. i listen to Pandora and create stations off of my fav artists and then a new-to-me band will come on and i find additional music that rocks.

But who is doing the paying? The artists. Their management. Labels are basically dead, so I can’t imagine them getting too deeply involved in payola.

I listen to rock music from the 50s-80's. The rest is trash IMO. Thank heavens for MP3s because that's what gets played in the car. It's been more than a decade since I even turned on a radio.

It's I heart radio mainly because they play who they promote mostly and they are the biggest. In country, Nash owns contracts with country stars and plays them and of corse there's Disney and their channel. Used to be a whole radio network though. Pushed their tweens to tweens.

Everything on the radio is shit. Even the classic rock, stuff like that, sucks because they only play the same songs over and over again. You won’t ever hear anything different or new on the radio.

They play the play lists the corporate music directors make for them, some of which are influenced by consultants who are paid by record labels thus payola.

I wouldn't say music is trash, just the bullshit that gets played on the radio and wins awards that air on mainstream TV networks.

Then again, I'm more into the rock and metal scene because at least there's some decent musicianship and songwriting in there.

Older people listen to their TV's. Just music stations have replaced radios in homes. You get the artist, composer and some trivia on screen if you want details of what you find yourself liking while doing the laundry. No morning zoo imbeciles, no traffic and weather on the 8's. No interruptions for fake school shootings and other propaganda.
You want new music that ain't half bad? Try TV show soundtracks. This old fogie has discovered several new songs from The Blacklist, ie. And Russian Doll on Netflix has a great set of songs I never heard before but now they are ensconced on my iPod- and for FREE! That's the key. Free. America's favorite word. (Want to give these junkie posers your $$? Go to one of their shows- if they actually show up- and buy a T-shirt out of guilt)
Every year at my fave watering hole, we watch the Grammys muted. That'll show 'em!! Friggin' octaroons with their boombox BS... wait, I already screeded on that in some other blind today. Back to soft and easy favorites...

Yes! Remember when djs were chosen for their actual music choices and personality?

I stopped listening to music on the radio when i was working long hours and realized the classic rock station was just playing the same songs in a different order everyday. Been on sports talk and podcasts ever since.

@This I don’t know what station you listen to (or where) but the one where I am (Maryland) is iHeart and does this too. I’m starting to despise the show and the hosts though lol

Hip hop and rap are NOT music. They might be artistic impression, but that is not the same as music. And it sucks, btw. All sounds the same, auto-tuned, demeaning to women.

It's definitely "i heart radio". They were pushing some songs a couple of weeks ago on an indie station with a free tickets to their big show, bumps before and after the songs were how you knew they were i heart radio. Station listeners did not like it because people who listen to indie music aren't really interested in a "music festival" that has several country/pop music as the headliners in the promo. They also did it with a country music station but someone dropped the ball because the country promo had pop singers as the headliners.

I love Bruno but his newest one is genuinely no good.

@Megan - We are kind of neighbors and I'm assuming you are talking about the Kane Show. :)
