Early 2000s. Pissed off the entire family, because it tied up the phoneline.
With my original Gateway p.c!
Sometime around 2000 I think.
+1 Zebra. Soon as you'd get off line, the damn phone would be ringing!
Before I had an actual computer, I had web tv. That was fun, but so slow and also tied up the phone line!
i was of the new users of dialup AOL in 1991. seriously!
omg, i would have $500+ a month AOL bills. that was a shit ton of money. insane!! always hung out in a particular chatroom.
STILL have friends from that chatroom 27 years later.
I remember AOL! It was so exciting at first, when you heard that familiar voice exclaim "You've got mail!"
I had a family computer in our den, AOL dial up that tied up our phone lines thinking it was around 2000.
Around 2001... I started out at 2400 baud and then finished at 56K ..i had a fancy US robotics external modem. Can remember "borrowing" wifi in my college years. Loved early wifi..no one knew how to turn security on or didn't realize how far that wifi signal can actually travel.
2000
What is dial-up internet?
i am so old.
lol
Let me turn this around. The first time was 1974, while living in a house in Cambridge Mass, where had a second phone that dialed in to a MIT computer. I was fascinated by the whole thing. The words ‘300 baud’ still makes me shudder.
1999.
Buying tickets for nine inch nails , fragile tour 99👍
What's really sad is how slow the U.S.'s internet is compared to much of the world. There are developing countries that make our internet look like dial up.
Can't remember but still remember that happy sign on sound "eeeeeeeeeeeeskewooo-ooowoo". Even the dog knew that meant settle in under the desk cause we were gonna be there for a whil.
2001! We moved and my parents had dial up. I stayed with them while our new house was being built. I thought I would go crazy.
2006. Once our oldest started high school I was finally able to convince my hubby that dial up was not fast enough for what they needed to do for school.
Remember CompuServe?
😂😂😂 "even the dog knew that meant settle in..."
I know it was before or around 2000, because we moved into this house in 2001 and have never had dial-up here.
When I played Zak McCracken and the Alien Mindbenders
1998. When I was a nipper we had an acoustic coupler at home. A wire dial-up between computer and wall socket was a major advance. Now we have fibre with potential speeds up to 1000 mbps and we get frustrated if there is a split second delay.
Middle school? High school?
