Blind Item #10 - Reader Blind

A surprise challenger for several prestigious annual book awards in a foreign country is a book by someone from the same country who had a very different artistic career.  He is/was part of a group whose peak was two+ decades ago.  The group stopped performing for awhile and he was active on his own before they got back together and are still performing now.  They had something to do with fabric and what they produced was inspired by a popular movement in the early 1970’s which produced several iconic artists.

This potential winner of book awards has written a couple very entertaining poetically worded accounts of his childhood and the early days of his career with the group.  The reviews have been uniformly positive which may be influencing the literati.

I was going to guess something like Haring or someone but I keep forgetting that 2 decades ago was 2000 NOT 1980...

That said, we are looking for a member of a group that went solo for a while, then got back with the group. The group was inspired by an early 70s movement that involves fabric (??) Denim? Jeans?

Tie Dieing was a 70s fabric/fashion fad.

Rob Halford and Judas Priest? He has an autobiography coming out.

They have song "Hell Bent for Leather" and their look(Well at least Halford's) was inspired by the Gay Leather subculture.

The movement from early 70's, if Enty means music and not art in general, would be Glam.

Judas Priest are considered founding father figures to metal heads.
I tend to agree with @Dorvannnn and his Rob Halford comment.
Hat tip.

I wanna say it's something to do with The Bay City Rollers and tartan but Suede also crossed my mind and sounds more likely given the timings

Not Nick Cave, but love his work. Saw a fabulous exhibit of his work in Savannah a little while back, and saw a piece today at the local museum.

Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers has a new book, "Acid for the Children" about his childhood. He is from Australia.

I saw Suede @ their first major concerts and have a clear vinyl single given away free at them. It's Brett.
