Blind Item #10 - Reader Blind

A recent documentary was being put together in a foreign country and hit the same problem area that another documentary did earlier this decade.  Both documentaries were about this beloved deceased comic actor who was in radio, TV, and movies with his biggest success coming in the latter. He was also successful in the USA where he was seen as an exaggerated example of a certain kind of character from his home country. One of his most famous movies involved a lot of other actors.

Both documentaries dug up two allegations of sexual assault both involving domestic servants. The second one occurred when the comic actor was already on his way to success and the woman reported it to the police but due to a combination of the actor’s status and the woman’s lower class nothing was done.

God I hope it isn’t John Candy

It's pretty low class to try to f*ck the help.

I'll cry if I see anything bad about John Candy. Bye bye childhood lol

@Puddy Paul Hogan's a good guess.

MyDogSmiles said...

And Paul Hogan's still alive...

The actor is dead. Probably older because he was popular in radio. Probably a bigger star in his home country. Now try to guess, because I can't.

Agree w/ Sandybrook on Cantiflas. “Around the World in 80 Days” was the movie that featured a lot of famous actors.

This is the second day that people have been guessing John Candy for nastiness...
leave the fat giant dead guy alone.

Enty - if you're listening....don't do a John Candy hate blind...no one needs to know that if it is out there.

Dudley Moore.

Peter Sellers?
Movie with a lot of other actors- Dr. Strangelove?
I was thinking Pink Panther about the exaggerated character, but Clouseau is French. I'm not super hip to his filmography, but I know he did radio at one point.

Star and Flurry said...

David Niven? Pink Panther. Exaggerated character Sir Charles Lytton.

Benny Hill?

Original Italian Job for the ensemble cast film

P. Edwin Nibbles said...

Both Dudley Moore and Peter Sellers fit, and Sellers was never known as being 'nice'.

How's about Desi Arnaz?

P. Edwin Nibbles said...

@Tricia13 Shame on you for even thinking John Candy!

(You're still the best.)

Most likely Jerry Lewis. Says 'Home Country", says nothing about foreign born. Recent Doc about him via France. He liked the help to watch him jerk his carrot.

Aw/thank you. I love JC too. Just the bit about major film
Success here later in here career that made me fear toward it. That said god knows nothing surprises me either ,sadly

Why the hell am I seeing John Candy pop up as guesses for these blinds all the time now? He was a good dude, as I understand it.

For some reason Terry Thomas popped into my head.

Acerbia said...

@gauloise Benny Hill is a great guess

Rosie riveter said...

This is not John candy people. Puh-Leeze, JC didn't have a mean part about him.
Jerry Lewis is a great guess tho. he was a creeper

I think this is an English/UK guy.

I think the man is British because it says he was 'also successful in the US'. He could be possibly from The Carry on movies. Not sure.

no.. not Benny Hill . that silly guy

shakey said...

For those of us at a certain age John Candy is much more famous for SCTV. Don't know if he did any radio.

Ana Maria said...

I don't think Cantinflas did any radio

Sea Hag said...

Was Candy popular in radio? I doubt it.

David Niven?
In lots of comic films, including Bond spoof, Casino Royale.

Unknown said...

Movie with a lot of other actors...Death On The Nile.

noellebebe said...

Certainly Jerry Lewis is who.

Max Power said...

The only thing John Candy assaulted was pizzas.

Coffee Bean said...

If the hired help was well under 18 then my guess is Jerry Lewis.
Now if they were over 18 then most definitely Jerry Lewis.

D Brown said...

I really hate to say it since I love his performances but Terry Thomas also was my first thought. He always played the exaggerated version of an Englishman whereas Peter Sellers was a character comic who played many nationalities. The movie would be It's A Mad, Mad , Mad, Mad World.

Would love it to be Jerry Lewis, but without checking on his radio and TV credits, think it's Terry-Thomas.

CookieQueen said...

Sadly, I think this is Benny Hill

Low class is the highest some people have the capacity to do.

Terry Thomas was my first guess too.
