So a really good one today as a way of saying thanks.
So this A list couple has been divorced for some time now. Each have moved on as divorced couples tend to do. My five ex-wives are grateful everyday they don't have to see me and the monthly checks I'm forced to send them keep them in Laboutin's and me in a basement. Anyway, there really was no reason given for the divorce. Just one day it was over. Out of the blue so to speak. Turns out that perhaps the lady in all of this was not really quite the lady we all thought. It's not that her husband minded because he really didn't. The problem was that our wife wasn't as discreet as perhaps she should have been and a huge secret was about to be revealed which neither the husband or wife really wanted. Seems that maybe the other man in this wife's life was not just some random guy off the street, but someone much closer. Each had their own reasons for keeping everything a secret. The wife really was happy being married to the husband which is why there were very few fireworks and instead just a resigned disappointment that she wasn't going to get to stay. The wife violated a rule and has slowly been eliminated from any contact with the ex and the ex's family.

I had heard one of the reasons for the divorce was that she became pregnant by someone other than TC (shocking)... this would imply maybe a family member?...
My first thought was Tom and Nicole, too. One day they were blissful (eewww...) and the next day it was over and "Nicole knew what she did..." Wasn't that what TC said at the time?
I thought of Tom and Nicole also. The rumours at the time hinted at her becoming pregnant with Evan McGregor during the filming of Moulin Rouge, but were only whispers at the most.

Nicole had ovarian cancer and had a hysterectomy. I remember seeing her on an interview a long time ago talking about it and that's why she has no biological kids and never will. I don't get why she continues to be in the tabloids as possibly being preggers.

get a life, i think what you're citing is the film malice, which nicole is in, and suffers that fate. At the time of her divorce, papers surfaced as evidence of a miscarriage she suffered. if she was barren, she wouldn't be able to misscarry.

I like your theory! I also remember, like someone else here said, that Tom's only words after the divorce were "she knows what she did." It made me think that they had some weird arrangement and that she had broken the rules somehow.
After marrying Keith she said that that they were hoping to have a kid of their own. I know nothing about a hysterectomy,- did she really have one?

April - it's more than a theory. It was my friend who had to help get Ewan out of Nicole's hotel when the Aus. Seriously. The press got wind he was there. Nicole's sister was snuck in through the back and they had her walk out the front door so people said "idiots -it was her sister in her room". As for Tommy boy, there is an old Playboy interview with Mimi rogers after her divorce from Tom where she stated two things 1. Tom and her barely ever had sex "he lived like a monk" was the quote AND, she said, "he's sterile. He can't have kids". He himself said that on the Tonight Show in the early 90's. People either have forgotten this major fact or simply don't know about it. That's why dear little Suri being passed off as his is such a joke in Hwood.

If the Laboutin's were a hint, is him being in the basement a hint, too? I seem to recall a blind item about someone in a basement, which was refreshing, since most blinds have people in the closet.
I believe that Nicole Kidman got pregnant by her Orthopaedic Surgeon who was treating her knee after an injury on the Moulin Rouge set. His marriage was also destroyed by their affair. Nicole miscarried in January, a few weeks after Crazy Cruise dumped her for violating the terms of their contract.
Oddly enough, the reason I know this, my doctor (a woman who is friendly with the Ortho Dr's now-ex-wife) told me. I know, really comforting to know how discreet these physicians are.
For those who are interested here's a little more about Tom's relationships. They enter into a contract as a professional beard. he gets the look of a straight man they get the following:

Littleoleme, I'm confused as to why she would get 50% if they had waited another two months, "by California law". California law calls for 50/50 division even with common law marriages, so this doesn't make sense. Also, I'm sure there was a pre-nup involved. Maybe the agreement according to the pre-nup would make her share larger in another two months, but I doubt he would ever agree to giving anyone as much as 50%.

thank you for that clarification! Weird how he admitted to being sterile years ago, and then 'regretted' telling it, or so it seems, later.
I remember another tidbit about Nicole and Tom from years before their divorce. Nicole had been picked up early from a get-together with some Hollywood friends by Tom, and her friends commented on how 'sweet it was that he couldn't be away from her for more that a couple of hours at a time'. I remember thinking about this when I saw pictures of him and Katie looking less than relaxed recently. He probably has some major control issues on top of everything else.

I don't believe the wikipedia part about them not having a pre-nup. It is really unbelievable that they would have a marriage contract, but no pre-nup? Maybe they did have one, but it wasn't made public, hence the wikipedia entry. But then again I have no idea how the California family laws are. I do know they are really different from other states and that's why a lot of people go and get married there.
I just know the laws here in Texas, but Ent could you please give us some insight into the 10 year rule and prenup laws in CA? We would really appreciate it!

the legal issue in California with the "10 year rule" does not pertain to division of property. It refers to the alimony payments. If you are married less than ten years, you will receive alimony for half the term of the marriage. If you are married for ten years then you get alimony for a time equal to the full term of the marriage. However, it is my understanding that this not written law, but rather "precedent." It does, however, seem very much to be the rule, and almost all CA attys advise their clients based on this standard.
Wouldn't the contract be the pre-nup? Of course they can't disclose that there is a prof beard contract in lieu of a formal pre-nup....

Deifnitely Tom and Nicole. Nicole starred in a play in London and on Broadway several years ago (around 1999, as I recall) called "The Blue Room." It was famous because both she and her co-star appeared fully naked on stage, although I saw it and thought the play was pretty great regardless of the nudity. In any event, there were lots of rumors at the time that Nicole had an affair with the co-star and perhaps got pregnant by him.
I thought the 10 year rule was lifetime alimony, and the pre-nup gets tossed out the window. It's like if you want to divorce someone do it before it gets to expensive, or once you make it to 10 years its smooth sailing.

In California, after 10 years the spouse is entitled to A LOT more than if it was 9 yrs/11 months. He'd have to pay her 50/50 after 10 years. Given, I'm sure she got a good settlement as they were married when both were having successful careers so she still had 10 years of "community property" they assessed during their time together. They were pretty quiet with the settlement. She got the Sydney home, he got the Telluride home, etc.
She did have a miscarriage. I knew her bodyguard at the time. There was a photo of her coming from an appointment with her ob/gyn at UCLA medical center in Westwood after the split/miscarriage. He confirmed it did happen, that Nicole was devastated by the bust-up but was a sweetheart to work for.

I think the Kidman-Cruise split was announced in Feb of 2001, with Cruise alleging Dec of 2000 as the time of separation. Although Cold Mountain didn't come out in theaters until 2003, and a formal denial of a Kidman-Law affair wasn't issued until Feb 2003, the actual affair, if it did happen, could have occurred during casting and pre-production of Cold Mountain during mid to late 2000. According to Yahoo movies, this film took about 2 years to cast. Interestingly, Cruise was at one time considering the project, but dropped out right around the time of the split. Also interesting is that Kidman adamantly denied the affair, filed suit and won in Oct of 2003. She donated all the proceeds to a Romanian orphanage near the filming location.

Nicole isn't a foreigner. She was born in Hawaii and is a US citizen. She was pretty young and clueless when Tom nabbed her - and he was horrible to her from the beginning. Friends who worked on Days of Thunder were shocked how badly Tom treated her, screamed at her, called her an amateur, refused to leave his trailer until she could recite her lines perfectly outside the door, if Tom messed up his blocking or lines (he can't read and learns his scripts through recordings) he would lay into Nicole as "unhelpful". Why she married him, i don't know, because he was very abusive towards her.
Twisted Sister - in California, after 10 years spouses have a right to better alimony and division of assets. Ent would know better, but the length of marriages in CA makes a world of difference, prenup or not.

Nicole had ovarian cysts, according to my best sources, and was treated for that and eating disorders at one point in her marriage to Tom (Menniger Clinic in Kansas.) She would have great difficulty in getting pregnant, though it wouldn't be impossible.

The miscarriage rumour was supposedly Nicole launching a warning shot across the bow of Tom's tugboat. If he was going to use all his $cientology goons to try and destroy her, and contest the pregnancy, then she was ready to fight back. Tom would have to admit he was sterile if he was to claim the phantom pregnancy was a fake or not his. Tom couldn't do this, and it stopped his publicity machine cold.
So, what was the rule Nicole violated? I don't think it was Ewan (though filming with Ewan for months might make any woman want to ditch a freaky, frothing, midget and find a real man.) It had to be someone who also seriously violated Tom's trust by taking up with Nicole. I'm stumped.

Although this BI is probably about Tom and Nicole, I just want to point out that we don't see Nicole around her kids often because Nicole wants to keep that part of her life as private as possible. She doesn't use them for publicity and photo ops like half of Hollywood does - including her Ex. If you think about it, we didn't see her with them that much during their marriage. The ex-family members probably refer to his family and not their kids.
I really think the "rule" she violated was that she talked to a shrink. Or maybe a priest. Wasn't she raised Catholic by parents who are psychiatrists?

We're all just speculating here. For all we know, she had the kids baptized in the Catholic church or gave them medication when they were ill or something. We may learn the answer when Andrew Morton comes out with his tell all, if any publisher will handle it.

I think Tom hired his sister after their divorce and then had the worst PR year of his creepy life with the Oprah couch-jumping, getting into it with Brooke Shields and Matt Lauer, getting fired from his production parent company (or something like that) etc. He finally relegated her to a different role within his org and found a true PR person.
OK, going out on a limb here, if the rule Nicole broke was getting pregnant, I'm sort of confused on why it ended things or why it would have been the rule. It seems they would have to have had some sort of an open, but very discrete, marriage, unless she went without sex for 10 years (shudder at the thought). Wouldn't he have welcomed a pregnancy to prove he was virile and into women? I mean, the first thing he did with Katie was to get her pregnant (although i don't believe he himself did the deed). Unless they both knew the baby would not resemble him in any way and he could not possibly claim it... ie mixed race? Or if they knew the real father would step forward and lay claim? Maybe it was imperative that scientology choose the baby daddy and Tom would not lay claim to a child not of his paternal choosing? Tom had the best publicist (manager?) in the business, Pat Kingsley. She looks even better since Tom fired her and exposed his freaky little self to the world.
Pat was fired because she would not support Tom's cause as the "Jesus of $cientology" (yes, the phrase has been used by $cientology goons.) Tom wants to surround himself with $cientologists exclusively these days. He promoted his sister which was a PR disaster, and sis' left for philanthropic ventures within the cult (looting the public for the $cientology war chest.)
We need no further proof that Tom is certifiable than the firing of Pat Kingsley.

What puzzles me is they were both single for a couple years after her divorce; what prevented them from being together? Sunny, hate to burst your bubble but I know RC's former personal assistant. Seems that RC is a huge coke head and mean ass jerk of the highest order. People were not allowed to look at him or speak to him (at his owm dinner parties!! They were supposed to sit quietly at the table). I guess he borders on crazy he's so mean/unpredictable/demanding. But then who knows, maybe that was the coke.

"she keeps me sharp" is not too difficult to understand. Some people challenge us, intellectually, emotionally, professionally, while others are boring and predictable.
Did T/N do a movie called Eyes, or some such. I vaguely remember hearing that they had to hire a coach for the love scenes because it was so cold and mechanical; that they couldn't make it look real.

10:22 - Give your head a f*&kin' shake. My friend had to leave due to the abuse stress. Not everyone is smart enough to get a confidentiality agreement everytime. RC is a f*&king drug addict with serious issue. Sorry for the anger but my friend went through shit with this guy and had to take 6 months off before even tyring to get back to his life. I know you'd like to think RC is great guy but I hate to tell you that almost no one is what they seem in Hwood. Don't comfuse the character with the person.

Umm, no. Ever the beefy, brawny RC on a coke diet? Don't think so. The problem is, almost no one on the internet is what they seem, much less H'wood.
Tell your friend he (ostensibly) has a good civil action if he was incapacitated for six months due to abuse, as long as the statute of limitations hasn't passed. Even if he did have a confidentiality agreement. I'm sure he knows that, right?
He's a lawyer.

He didn't care. He just wanted to get away. It was more important to get his life back then to get vindication or $$. He works for gov't now and has a his sanity back. You should hear the stories he tells. Most actors act like petty, spoiled children. My friend doesn't worry about RC finding out about his mouthing off as he now lives nowhere near Hwood or any other major industry city.
P.S. If you drink a ton of beer etc. as well that helps to keep the weight on.
Regarding the 9 year 11 month deal, I heard that in T & N's agreement, she agreed to remain married for 10 years, and then would reap certain unknown benefits. Since at that time, it was thought that Tom was sterile, it was felt that Nic could not pass off the pregnancy as Tom's. She violated a rule of exposing their "arrangement" by getting pregnant when he could not be the father. He hurried to divorce so he was not obligated to the benefits promised after 10 years.
The question is, is he truly sterile, or not? Could Suri be a test tube baby? And in reference to the comments of her being mixed race or "Asian" - I think that's a bunch of hooey. If you look closely at Katie's eyes, they have a fold of skin at the inner eyelids. (see this photo here http://bullshit-detection.com/kholmes_mouth_sm.jpg) On the baby it is more pronounced. I think as she ages, she will look more and more like Katie. Whether Tom had anything to do with it is another question.
