Roman POlanski Is One Step Closer To The US
A Swiss judge ruled today that no new evidence will be allowed to be introduced in the extradition process of Roman Polanski to the United States. Polanski's lawyers had tried to get a US judge to unseal some of the documents from the trial, but were denied. The Swiss judge said that even if the documents were unsealed it doesn't matter.
He told the Associated Press, "Such documents are irrelevant for the extradition proceedings. (Countries that have signed mutual extradition treaties) have to work on the assumption that the facts in the extradition request are represented correctly."
Because Polanski's appeal in the US was denied, it now clears the way for the Swiss to rule on the extradition. That decision is expected sometime in the next month.

If he was smart, he would have gone to a country that had no extradition treaty with the USA. I guess if he was REALLY smart, he wouldn't have done what he did in the first place.

U.S. is not going to act on it. There will be no extradition and he will live out his days in Gstaad.
Sounds like nothing is going to happen to this rapist.
I think something will happen. It's already gone too far for them to just drop it. He tried to get out of out any times, and so far, no one has let him. (to my knowledge)

If we have a signed agreement with the Swiss, what is the hold up?
because this whole thing is about saving face and politics and the Swiss don't want to play so they are dragging their feet hoping the US will go away.
I hate to say this, however it's gonna end up being a last second plea deal.
Huge fine, community service, permanent exile from US - and of course, the heartfelt "apology".
The studios will engineer/fund it because after all, "it's Polanski" and "it happened so long ago".
I wonder if he feels the same way about Charlie Manson?
