Hugh Jackman Birthday Wishes For Cancer Patient's Wife

Kristian Anderson has been fighting cancer. His wife, Rachel was his rock during his chemo and radiation. He wanted to do something special for her birthday to tell her how much her support meant to him. Well, they are Australian so he enlisted the help of fellow Australian, Hugh Jackman. Like we needed another reason to love Hugh. Get out your kleenex people. Seriously.

Enty's not kidding about the Kleenex. Beautiful video. I hope Rachel has a wonderful birthday.

Props to John Key and Hugh for the cameos - but Bravo to Kristian (and kids) for the video and message.

truly wonderful.

So sweet. So, so, so, so, so, so sweet. *sob*

That was awesome, but your header is a little misleading. Hugh Jackman wished Rachel happy birthday, not Kristian.

I'm forwarding this video to a few people.

I'm bawling and right after I watched it my husband called. What a beautiful family.

I thought I was made of tougher stuff but I have a lump in my throat.

Get well, Kristian. Happy Birthday, Rachel.

I thought I was gonna be able to get through it without tearing up, and then those adorable little boys came on. Must stifle sobs before someone notices ...

What a great video! I am FAR from an emotional person but that video was really special. What a wonderful and heartfelt thing to do.

Hmm, mixed feelings on this. Part of it feels great, part of it seems manipulative. Sorry folks, something just feels off to me.

Sigh. I made it 23 seconds before crying. What a sweet thing to do! What a nice guy Hugh is, too.

I'm going to have to share this...

@Fish

Explain. Not being a jerk, just curious.

As someone who is suffering from a chronic illness and is cared for by my spouse, I definitely teared up. However, the first guy really made me miss Flight of the Choncords. Thanks to all the caretakers who have to shoulder our pain as well as your own.

As great as the message is, the production quality made it even more powerful.

I want to live in a country where the leader would take the time to do something like this.

It would be great to see the video of her watching this for the first time. Sort of like those videos of people watching 2 girls and a cup (only without the dry heaves).

@ Sue Ellen - I guess I am a pretty private person. A message from my husband minus the celebrities would have more meaning for me.

The reason I am conflicted is that IMO this guy seems to need a lot of attention to tell his wife he loves her. He went on a local Sydney radio station to help him get in touch with Hugh and the NZ PM. It's all about him and his thank you, not his wife or her birthday. Even the kids just show up for the last 30 seconds or so.

I don't think he would be conscious of this need for attention I think he will end up a reality star down under.

When I first watched it I wondered what he had trying to make up for -cheating on her, being a jerk. It just seemed like he was trying so hard to get her to stay or come back.

...And that's enough of my jaded psyche for one day :}

Don't men usually make it all about them? I know mine does.

(Sorry guy posters, notice I did say "usually")

That was very, very sweet. Tear-inducing, definitely.

Beautiful family...praying for you...
And Hugh I didn't think I could love you more but.......

@ messystation - I am in the same situation, and couldn't have said it any better myself. My heart goes out to you & those who help you get through it all.

Oh my - I'm glad I was warned about needing the kleenex. My heart is breaking right now because my mother-in-law is in the last days of her life and my father-in-law would do anything for her but she won't even let him come and say good-bye. She has so much emotional baggage from being molested by her father that in the past couple of years she has become a very bitter person towards all men (except her two sons).

I'm dealing with more and more bad news about my dad's failing health on a daily basis (I'm 35, he's only 64), so I don't think I can watch this based on the comments alone. Thanks for the 'warning' everyone.

Sigh That was awesome. If Hugh weren't married I'd chase him like crazy.

Thanks for sharing this Enty.

@ Fish- He could be apologising for perhaps not taking care of himself the way he should. A good friends husband had a mjr. heart attack at 42. He will not relax and still smokes. My friend is furious with her husband for this.
She is mad because she wants their 2 small kids to have a daddy not a memory.

This video was beautiful and made me tear up but I have to agree with Fish and say that it seems a little overboard for a birthday wish. I also got the feeling like he was trying to make up for something or trying to keep her from leaving. I mean, seriously...if you were thinking about leaving your spouse...this video would completely guilt trip you into not going through with it.

I don't get the same thing that fish and memyselfandi are getting from this-as someone who fought and beat NHL, I'd do the same for my mom and dad on their bdays bc I was 23 and they gave up so much to help me; caretakers hardly ever get the recognition for all they do, and it's such an emotionally draining experience. It seems he's talented and had help and he wanted to do something for her on a day that was special to her-maybe she put aside birthdays to hold his hand at chemo. I just can't be cynical about motivations of someone expressing their love to someone who has been there for them through the worst, because if I could've bought a primetime spot with Tom Selleck hosting (he's my mom's fave) and letting her know how much I appreciated her? I would've in a heart beat.

This was beautiful.

Best wishes to all of you suffering or supporting your family members. It's a tough road. Stay sane & stay strong.

"I need you like I need a cure for cancer."

OK that's where I lost it...lol

And now I'm bawling again. Thanks a lot, Terri-Ann... LOL :P

What a beautiful message. Reminded me of Love Actually. I'm generally a really cynical person but I didn't feel anything but love when I watched that. It's a grand gesture and I can only imagine that surviving cancer makes you see life differently - perhaps even more willing to take risks and put it all out there. Whatever it was that prompted him to do it (if it was beyond simply expressing love and gratitude), I think he was making a declaration and a statement of that love. We live in a media crazed world and while I might be embarrassed by such a public declaration, if my husband thought that up and went to those lengths, I could probably forgive him anything. Even leaving the toilet seat up...

Yeah, jen, that one got me too

(selfish note: who's the singer?)

MCH said...

@ClaireFrasier - Its "Marry Me" by Train.

He loves her and he did a nice thing for her. IMO it's as simple as that. I know there are cynical people in this world so those comments do not surprise me. I always feel a little sad b/c there is always a story of why and how someone becomes so cynical. This man isn't allowing his life story to make him that way.
