This pretty, 30-something actress may profess to be proud of her heritage in the press but we know this: several years ago she had extensive skin bleaching done in Europe. We don’t know why she did this, she wasn’t a dog to begin with.

If you read the blind, it says 30 something. Alba is not yet 30 and she looks the same. Newton has always had the same color. Eva Longoria is lighter than when she was younger, plus in Europe bi-racials (her husband) think of themselves as whites. Tony never dated black girls. I say Eva FTW.

I'd be surprised if an American would go to Europe for that -- there are plenty of products on the market here that bleach skin effectively.

Plus, in Europe there are stricter laws for privacy, so it would be easier for someone who didn't want publicity to go there and have a procedure without lurking photogs.

Just Google "Thandie Newton race", lots of talk about her plastic surgery and her skin bleaching and has been for years.
I did google and I don't see anything about her plastic surgery and skin bleaching. She's been pretty public about being biracial.
Eva Longoria is much paler without foundation.

No I looked through the first 3 pages - plus lots of images. The only thing I could find is a few rumors nothing more. However, I confess I like her a whole lot, so I'm trying to play devil's advocate!
I think I read that Eva Longoria has to wear foundation to look more Latina.
I think it's always easy to condemn people for doing those things, but who knows what psychological trauma the reason for such actions is.

I have not only seen pictures of Rita Hayworth when she was a young dancer and then in her later years, but I don't believe she had any bleaching done to her skin. Her parents were from Spain. On her mother's side, she had English and Irish ancestry. Rita Hayworth was not dark skinned.
Two years ago I was in Thailand, in a sidewalk beauty shop getting my hair braided. There was a little girl in there, maybe 3 or 4 years old, and she had this powder she was playing with. The powder was whitening powder that makes your skin look whiter. The salon girls kept saying stuff to this little girl and laughing, and when I finally found out what it was, it turns out they'd been saying "ugly girl ugly girl" and telling her she needed whitening powder so she wouldn't be ugly.
After that experience, I find it hard to judge this actress. Who knows what kind of hang ups she had growing up, and then all it would take would be one person to mention something about the colour of her skin to make her go out and get bleaching.
If it's Thandie Newton, she has definitely had a nose job!

and as a multiracial child visiting relatives in the south, there are definitely still stigmas/issues associated w/skin color, even seemingly "light" tones...did a number on me...i remember getting yelled at by an older female relative for "laying my californian ass out like a white girl" because i liked sunbathing by the pool...sheesh.

i think the issues of skin color are fascinating. especially when you consider how dark skinned people will bleach their skin yet light skinned people have an entire culture based around tanning and bronzer. i suspect it has to do with being able to afford vacations and travel and thus allowing light people to show their status of privileged through their now darkened skin as opposed to the idea that light skin means that youre rich and work inside.

I always thought it was simply the need for change. If you have brown hair you dye it blond and vice versa. If you are pale skin, you tan to get tan. Dark skin, avoid the sun to not get darker, etc.

The one drop rule doesn't exist here.
We tend to think of ourselves as biracial (i.e. not one or the other but both).
