Today's Blind Items- Old Hollywood Blind

If this actor was alive today he would have probably ended up spending his life in jail rather than being an A+ lister during his entire career. A studio almost went bankrupt paying off so many parents to keep quiet about what he did to their daughters. Our actor was the true definition of A+ list and he made box office hits and classics that will never stop being discussed. He was in charge of casting for all of his movies and you can be sure there would be a large number of teen and pre-teen girls auditioning for parts that didn't even fit in with the story. He frequently cut the scenes out they shot but just wanted to audition them and shoot with them and have sex with as many as he could. The number of illegitimate kids this guy had would probably make our heads spin. It has to be at least a dozen and probably none of the mothers were over the age of 16. That was pretty much his cut off point.. He wanted nothing to do with any teen over 16. This guy was a sick guy who didn't even bother hiding his love of young women but he was so popular and made so much money that people just shrugged it off and just said it was him being him. The payoffs were primarily to pay for the child's future, but there were more than a few times where a girl was injured while having sex with our actor because he didn't take no for an answer. The thing that was really disturbing is how many parents were willing to let their daughters film with him even when they knew his reputation or what he was going to do to their daughters. They let them spend the night or week with the guy.

Chaplin was English...at least with the main blind of the day, doesn't enty usually qualify it....

Md Md said...

This is Errol Flynn. Twice he was charged outside the country for rape. Both girls were 15 years old. Absolutely disgusting

Unknown said...

I'm with Haywood. In like Flynn would mean something more insidious if it were him. Why not reveal it? Whoever it is, is most likely worm food by now.

Tricia13 said...

Brando had to buy a private island in French Polynesia(Tetoria) to conduct life the way he did....and molest

AKM said...

Errol Flynn popped into my mind first. Granted, there's not a lot of detail to narrow this one down, really. Just that the guy was A+ and made lots of classic movies. Could be anyone. Meh.

Dena said...

I like the Errol Flynn guesses, but I'll throw out Douglas Fairbanks just because.

Unknown said...

That's right Md. He got off for that.
He's dead, so don't be a spoil sport Enty. Just tell us already, pretty please with sprinkles on top?

Flynn. Well known.

Not feeling Chaplin fir this. I'd go with Brando over him.

Unknown said...

I'm going Flynn.

Sabrina said...

But Brando was never in charge for all the casting in all his movies, and what he really liked were brunettes with a temper - young, sure, but in their 20's. All his children, including the ones out of the wedlock, were accounted for.

I'm going with Errol Flynn, too, because I doubt McCarthy would have let this pass when he went after Chaplin for being a "commie".

MontanaMarriott said...

Brando was also a notorious bisexual so I am sure Enty would have mentioned "young boys" as well as young girls if this were him but then again this IS Enty we are talking about so his facts leave alot to be desired lol.

I first thought Chaplin, but Flyn was really known for the 15 year old girls. He even had a 15 year old mistress living with him, when he died, that the alegations came out. In her bedroom in his house there were peep holes above her bed, so his buddies could watch them have sex.

Trilby said...

Well, my first three choices were the first 3 guesses here. LOL. Always too late to the party. Think it's Chaplin, though.

Erroll Flynn.

Errol Flynn was gay and born in Tasmania, not US...
I totally get the guess, but I feel it's relevant.he liked women more...he was privy to exotic young girls(hence his Polynesian paradise isle where he was also a huge fan of incest...real nice guy...

@sabrina,.on the waterfront was a game changer for him...and he could green

I mostly agree with the Errol Flynn guess, people really did just put up with his crap. I think its a real stretch to say he was A+ for his entire career, he was kind of a loser by the end of his career.

Unknown said...

Had it said singer I would have gone with Sinatra. He was known to like it really rough, also liked young girls, sicko.
Sinatra was awful, what he did to some of the women was horrifying. His mob connections often times had him taking care of business while in their company - so it is said...

Lisa said...

Definitely Chaplin. His treatment of young girls was well known in Hollywood and he never made an effort to hide it.

Tricia13 said...

@kpist..it wasn't yesterday I don't think(the one I k now of) lol...it was last week I think when I guessed him for the A list comic actor cheating w/michelle Monaghan.because I said slat he was slated for TD this season......and I'm happy bout both these casting additions!! Yummy

Unknown said...

John Wayne popped into my head reading this. He made a lot of classics and was A+ list until his death.

"In the late 1950s, Flynn met and courted the 15-year-old Beverly Aadland at the Hollywood Professional School, casting her in his final film, Cuban Rebel Girls (1959). According to Aadland, he planned to marry her and move to a new house in Jamaica but he died of a heart attack before this came to pass." Wikipedia

Unknown said...

Errol Flynn used to say "I like my whiskey old and my women young". No kidding.

D Brown said...

Chaplin. Firstly, Flynn was never A+ list all of his career. The last decade was barely B list. Casting of his major movies was by the studio, Warner Bros, not by him. Brando wasn't connected to any studio and didn't control casting of much of his movies. Whatever their personal preferences their movies are not littered with underage actresses (I'll except Brando for his Bounty film). Chaplin produced and directed his movies and thus controlled casting. He was a founder of United artists and thus had a studio to protect him. Finally his films are full of barely legal leading ladies etc.

Unknown said...

Errol Flynn was charged with raping a young girl, the trial almost ruined his career.

Sass71 said...

Clark, I was leaning toward John Wayne too. Then I read Errol Flynn's Wiki page...

PopJunkie said...

Flynn was actually charged with statutory rape of two 15 year old girls in the Los Angeles, although acquitted. Actually, when on trial he met his second wife teenager Nora Eddington at the court where the trial was taking place. Eddington was about 17 at the time. Sounds like a pretty good fit to me.

malcam66 said...

@Tricia, Errol Flynn was not gay. He's the perfect definition of bi-sexual - he liked anything that moved.

Tricia13 said...

@malcam66 agreed.
I thought he was a huge closet case, seems his issues were more of the pedophilic variety:(

However he is foreign born...so Unless enterns thinking that not important even in main blind...then he's the sick pig in this blind:(

Only think that makes me think it aint Chaplin is that it says lots of times the teen girl didn't fit in the movie. Chaplin had an ingenue in practically every short and feature he ever made. He, and the Marx Bros. especially, believed they needed a love story in the comedy to get broads into the theater.

I lean towards Erol Flynn, but when I think of actors who had their buddies that they always cast, Chaplin and John Wayne are the ones who stand out.

Charlie Chaplin and Errol Flynn were the most devout followers of Bring 'em Young in old Hollywood.

Isn't Flynn also known for hiring a pro for then 12 year old Dean Stockwell because he didn't want him to miss out on the fun?

I vote for Chaplin.

Charlie Chaplin's obsession with young girls

And:

Charlie Chaplin's Three Teenage Wives

He married two 16 year olds and a 17 year old.

I read somewhere the Nabokov got the name Lolita from Charlie Chaplin's child bride Lita who was 14 when they began their affair. His last wife playwright Eugene O'Neill's daughter Oona married Chaplin a month after her 18th birthday.

I don't get the 'bankrupted a studio'? Chaplin, Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks founded United Artists. The business plan changed as the industry did, and the partnership shifted into other interests. There were rumours about why and how the business interests devolved. Mary Pickford was pretty vocal about calling out Chaplin as a creeper.

Sounds closer to Chaplin, than other likely suspects, but - he did like older teens and barely adult. But not children and not those with parental chaperones. Errol Flynn sounds more likely, he was a constant force for bagmen to clean up messes. Bi, teen age or trick babies.

Someone more obscure?

Count Jerkula said...

@LazyDay: Bring 'em Young was one of the best DVD series ever. Lots of fresh off the turnip truck, barely legals w/ deer in the headlight looks on their faces shortly into the scene. Company never really transitioned to the internet and has been dead a while now.

Tricia13 said...

@michael..I agree, not a nice guy...but his films aren't discussed, intellectually really, in a any way current day...

But on the Waterfront is considered the premiere American Classic film(close 2nd Rebel WOAC)

Just saying....Brando...haven't even skimmed the surface of his- activities and perversions....and I think the point of the BI is that it's someone that wasn't reprimanded.

And he did have complete control over Godfather franchise...and 70's is old Hollywood whether I like it or not...(not..me feel old lol)

Count Jerkula said...

@Mystic Chic: What made Chaplin a mysogynist?

Tricia13 said...

@michael amend..godfather isn't old enough for old Hollywood, he was already in another stratospgphere of celebrity and talent

But On the Waterfront
guys and Dolls
mutiny on the Bounty
Streetcar named Desire
All were/are......and he did call shots on his films...read any autobiography of anyone who knew him

doodoolemonque said...

Chaplin liked young girls, obviously. But the other character flaws mentioned don't fit in the slightest. He was simply not a man given to violence against women. And very importantly, as someone else already mentioned, J Edger absolutely hated him with a deep, deep passion. If he had been able to make this a charge, he most certainly would have and it wouldn't have taken him as long as it did to get him out of the country. As described, it ain't Chaplin. My guess is the logical one....Flynn. Whatever could be wrong with a human being, it fits him to a T

Tricia13 said...

@doodoo...except for these facts, sorry last time: Errol Flynn was born in Tasmania...quite far from here. No mention.

He also wasn't über successful as stated ^ by other posters until later in life...he was Never A + untouchable...quite the opposite, happy to get work cuz he was a drunk(and I do I believe pedophile..and ultimately...BI sexual leaning towards gay...but most importantly to the BI..he was reduced to playing aging drunks....and was A+'posthumpously......

Tricia13 said...

*posthumously

Unknown said...

That's a good point doodoo.

Totally not Brando, he wasn't into girls that young, or if he was, not exclusively.

Chaplin did face a paternity suit just before he married Oona O'Neill, and lost. Even though, from what I read, bloodwork showed that he couldn't be the father (in those days, it would have been based on blood type, not DNA).

He had 8 children with Oona and by all accounts it was a very happy marriage despite the age difference. Lasted 33 years until his death.

OK, so - Errol Flynn?

Tricia13 said...

@prunella....respectfully...yes, brando was into Everything and if it didn't exist, he created it.

Tricia13 said...

Hence his fortress on a remote island in French Polynesia..; and if anyone thinks the only thinks the only thing he was evading was-taxes- they are mistaken.

Tricia13 said...

It was in part due the mob(ironic being that he was THE Godfather" ) and their awareness or discovery of his- pedophilic and inscensual tendencies...both extremely TABOO in the culture., and thee was a bounty(no pun) on his head.

So his disappearance from mainstream Hollywood wasn't the BS story given about spirituality, (much like Steven seagal)

He was a coward on the run....and a rapist, and deplorable.

And his return in (the graduate) in case anyone wondering...was a debt he owed....he hated every moment of being in that film..and it showed.

Then he died..The End

harpo068 said...

No question about it, this is Chaplin. His wife Lita Grey described exactly this m.o. in her book My Life with Chaplin.

He returned from reclusion for The Freshman...his debt.

@Tricia S - Brando did not have "complete control over the Godfather franchise" in any way shape or form. In fact, Coppola had to fight like hell to get Paramount to agree to cast him (Brando even went so far as to make a screen test, unheard of for a star of his stature).

I think this is Flynn.

Tricia13 said...

@russell...you took it literally...he was the franchise, I didn't mean it in pissing contest /I run this studio way....but you are correct in the respect that:brando didn't have complete control, sorry- the money people who actually greatly helped make the original film happen(not to be paramount pix BTW)after becoming infatuated with Brando in last tango in Paris ...and on the waterfront, did...and if there still exists people who are so naive to think that character and Brando we're mutually exclusive, well I have some swampland I'd like to sell you..

Coppola was a puppet.

And it all worked out for all involved.....

Ps. Errol Flynn wasntbA+ for the duration of his career/ he was a drunk..and B+!at best till he died...and he's foreign born.

I'm out!!

Agreed. Chaplin liked them young, but Flynn was controlling and abusive about it. Even his own biography is disgusting.

Jeff Macauley said...

Chaplin! No doubt about it, for all the reasons already stated. He was A+ until his dying day. His films sort of defined film making and will always be discussed by film scholars if not movie fans. And he was supposedly quite well-endowed which could be what led to injuries for the young girls. Where's Himmmmmmmmm? I'm sure his Chaplin research would confirm this.

He loved control over everything and put his mother on a pedestal but the way he would discard women after he was done with them would be ruthless. He would have affairs with all his leading ladies and then accuse them, their stage mothers or their own cray cray when they were bitterly dumped. He was shocked at the brilliant business acumen of Mary Pickford when they formed United Artists and mocked her legalize in his book My Autobiography. .The most self congratulatory piece of self absorption I have ever read. No woman got away from his story without some shade thrown her way except Oona. Oona was an aspiring actress and Chaplin made sure he put a stop to that. Paulette Goddard, Oona, Mildred, and Lisa Grey were all around the 16 or so age when he first got involved with them if anything barely legal. He dropped leading ladies when they got too old..I admit that it is my opinion that he is a misogynist but his biography and attitude towards his previous relationships point I that direction. If anything his ego was ridiculous.

Topper Madison said...

The Great Dictator and Gold Rush.

Count Jerkula said...

@Mystic Chic: yeah, I don't see any of that as Mysogynistic. If you look at the broader scope of things, instead of focusing on his relationships, he was Narcisisstic. He didn't hate women, he just only loved himself, and only thought he was "good enough". Shows through his micro managing of movie making and his perfectionism related to it.

P.S. He may have dropped the leading ladies on film, but I think he kept some on payroll.

@Tricia: Chaplin's work from his first short is all film school fodder. Remember, movies were in their infancy and he invented many, many special effects and shooting techniques. BBC did a 3hour documentary on how Chaplin shot and developed stuff, by going through the dailies they could find.

He has 6 movies in the National Film Registry. In AFI's 100 Greatest Movies, City Lights is #11, Gold Rush is #58, and Modern Times is #78.

Sounds very Chaplinesque; he loved barely-pubescent girls & young teens.

But, please; NOT Brando, okay? He was into grown-up Exotics. As for what happened to bring about the tragic f'ed-up kids & angry exes, my impression is he could be a good friend, but was a somewhat socio lover/partner, & a sh*t dad. My mom liked the man, but she was bowled over by anyone w/talent + brains + looks.

Mom's French roomie was the one silly enough to date MB & get knocked up (in one of a series of photo-booth pix they took together, I was creeped out by Brando covering Gf's face with a hand. Bet he did it during sex sometimes, too. It's like shouting, "Yep; I objectify women--it's so amusing to play with 'em!"). But overly-young US teens? Doubt he'd find them interesting.

95% O/T: when she was surfing toward rock'n'roll-bottom, former GTO groupie Pamela Des Barres fixated on & sorta stalked Brando in his Last Tango era. She left long, confiding phone messages, wrote letters--& sometimes sent them--for years, I think. Finally, just as Pam started to embark on her 1000th fraught <3 to <3 w/his answering machine, Brando picked up the phone, "Pamela?"

After she hung up in shock & called back, Brando actually gave her some insistent, concerned advice. He might have been OK as long as a relationship was not too intimate. Might explain why he treated my mom well as a Female Friend, while his treatment of knocked-up French Roomie had a strong flavor of Uncool.

And 100% O/T: I'm with the Band is a hoot! It knocks the socks off Bebe Buell in the Memoirs of Finicky Musician-Groupies dept as clearly as Beefheart is eternally & infinitely > Stiv Bators & his recycled NY Dolls' riffs.
