No surprise of McDowell were abused himself at a very young age. He was a beautiful child in the thick of Hollywood (or it's equivalent in the UK) from such a young age.

i always liked Roddy too. agree with Sara an others, he was most likely abused as a child himself. some of the film could have been of himself that he was able to find and kept. i don't want to think bad of him either. abuse of all types destroys so many lives.
I think every gay actor from 'old hollywood' would have been considered closeted no matter how widely it is/was known. Just wasn't in the public domain then no matter how common knowledge now. (Rock Hudson was closeted)

All i can say is that if true, just because Roddy was a nice guy doesn't make his alleged sexual perversion excusable. One can only hope that he never actually physically acted on it...
