Blind Item #8

They are telling the public one thing, but privately this police department is looking to this infamous celebrity from a docu-series as the number one suspect in the very mysterious death of the person who was probably most responsible for putting him behind bars. The indications are right now that someone tampered with the meal delivery service order and that is what killed the person.

Looks like things went downhill for her after the trial:

https://www.wral.com/former-durham-prosecutor-charged-with-dwi/14375377/

Former Durham County assistant district attorney Freda Black was charged Tuesday with driving while impaired, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Black, 54, served as the assistant prosecutor from 1991 to 2005 and was best known for prosecuting Mike Peterson, the novelist who is awaiting a second trial in the death of his wife, Kathleen. 5

Black was dismissed in 2005 by District Attorney Mike Nifong and ran against him in a Democratic primary the following year. Nifong beat her in the race, but he was later disbarred for more than two dozen violations of the North Carolina State Bar’s rules of conduct and filed for bankruptcy.

An arrest report lists Black’s current employer as Durham Cleaners.

Black is also facing a charge of damage to property. She was released on a written promise to appear in court on Feb. 5.

It's ironic, if he was guilty then he'd probably be more interested in staying out of prison. But if he was innocent, yeah he'd probably want to get that b!tch.

cheesegrater15 said...

Unless he's the narcissistic sociopath he appeared to be on The Staircase, then he'd want revenge. His sons were most likely involved.

Krab said...

Another made up blind. Why would he kill her when she has been out of the picture since 2005?

Anothergrayhare said...

Watched The Staircase thanks to someone on CDAN who recommended it. Then watched an episode of Forensic Files and another show with Dominic Dunne, profiling the case. Couldn't believe how one sided that documentary was! Then read that Michael Peterson dated the editor of the documentary for 15 years. Wouldn't surprise me if he killed someone else, although highly unlikely given the timeframe and the fact he is now free. He is totally a narcissistic nutcase. How many people have you found dead at the bottom of a staircase in your life? He's found two.

Michael Peterson, Scott Peterson, Drew Peterson... Ladies beware of men named Peterson.

Naaaaah. Black has been in a downward spiral for a long time, no help needed there.

Next!

orangesoda said...

Nah, Brayson. He is guilty and he got off on a very, very light sentence for two possible murders. He has a sense of invincibility now. Delusions of grandeur. This absolutely fits him to a T.
I researched the case quite thoroughly but I only watched about five minutes of that piece of shit documentary. The guy is an narcissistic sociopath. Him and his last wife never had an open relationship and she didn't know he was gay so when all of that 'came out' he murdered her.
His Purple Hearts are bullshit too.

Poor woman was her own undoing. I doubt Peterson would wait until now

orangesoda said...

Not heard anything about The Jinx. The Staircase is the BS documentary about the double murderer Michael Peterson. His prosecutor just died.

Krab said...

How could you have not heard of The Jinx! It's so good--a lot better than the Staircase one.

I still like the owl theory though.

But watch The Jinx. It's almost as good as Making of a Murderer.

Bullsh!t. The owl did it.

Ha. Love it!

I think the owl did do the wife and Peterson did Black for all the back and forth. Did they mention the owl angle in "The Staircase" because they sure didn't include it in the Dateline expose.

just sayin' said...

I'm really fascinated that you both agree about the owl theory. It's so obvious. I think it's ridiculous though to think that after all he went through, Peterson would risk his freedom by murdering Freda Black. I don't believe he's a murderer to begin with, so why now?

+1 stay sexy, don't get murdered!

Krab said...

I didn't think Peterson was guilty either. Not a likable person, but he struck me as sincere, anyway. And the kids stuck by him, too.

chillip said...

He's as guilty as one can be.

Interesting theory on Frida's passing. I wouldn't just dismiss the thought.

@justsayin and @Krab, watch the other shows online about the murders, you will change your mind. There was a lot of information NOT in the documentary. The feather's found in her hair were microscopic, and could have come from her bed pillow or the cushions on the patio furniture. He also hung a painting called "Chien Noir" at the foot of the staircase where she died. He had taken it from the house where the first woman died falling down the stairs. The painting had hung at the foot of her staircase too. He changed his timeline twice; there was a footprint from his shoe on the back of his dead wife's sweatshirt. Blood found on a doorframe and spots on the patio outside. Two of the kids stuck by him, (he had already killed their birth mother). His daughter, his own family members except for one brother, all sided with the prosecution. He and his wife owed over $150,000 on their credit cards and she had refused to bail out his two sons, who were both in financial difficulty. Michael had had no income for the prior 3 years, she was making 6 figures at Nortel but was concerned she might be hit in the next round of layoffs. She was insured for $1.8 milllion. Some interesting stuff.

How could that owl swing a blow poke hard enough to crack her noggin?

Krab said...

Thanks, @Anothergrayhare. Maybe I'll start diving in. God knows I'm bored with work this afternoon! (Honestly I didn't think the show was all that good so I kind of skipped ahead to the end. But the guy basically struck me as innocent, and I'm pretty cynical.)

Watched the docu on Netflix also. Very interesting stuff. The man was strange but I didn't know what to think....the owl possibility was also intriguing. Her wounds look like owl talons.

Talons? Claws?

@Anothergrayhare

Peterson didn't have a biological daughter. He was the guardian for the two daughters of Elizabeth Ratliff. They both stood by Peterson as did his two biological sons.

The main reason that Peterson was allowed out of prison, under an Alford plea, was because the prosecution and forensics in Durham County and the NCSBI were completely corrupt at the time of the trial. The state didn't want a retrial , which would have exposed the bad testimony of their experts, and Peterson just wanted out.

There was also a good appeal chance to be played out based on the allowance of the Peterson's homosexual dalliances into evidence.

I don't know if he murdered her but I don't think the state proved it's case and wouldn't have voted to convict if I were on the jury.

The owl theory is extremely interesting! Yes, barred owls attack people during their mating and early nesting seasons. It happens fairly frequently in suburban parks in NC (don't look at their babies, man, even when you hear them squealing for food.) The owl theory does neatly explain the head wounds without brain trauma or skull fractures. I like it, a lot.

BTW, I'd love to know how Enty is connected enough to the Durham PD to know their private thoughts.

Police officers are worse gossips than the girls at Sweet Valley High.

that 911 call sounds quite suspicious though..
the owls are not what they seem ♡

plot said...

@virago

That may be true, but how is Enty privy to their gossip in this case?

Amy said...

If you look at the head injuries online they are very telling. A very educated man who lived in the neighbourhood suggested it, he was laughed at but owl attacks and that species of owl were ongoing and vicious....sounds ridiculous but you never know.

Whyguess said...

Everything is true by plot...except that one of the 2 sisters believe and stood with the prosecution with her Aunt. To this day they are on opposite sides of the fence.

just sayin' said...

Explain to me how a woman who either was pushed down the stairs to her death or was bludgeoned by her husband with any tool of your choice had no skull fracture or bruising to the brain. Dr. Henry Lee testified for the defense, that says a lot. David Deavers, FBI agent, gave false testimony, and in fact has been so discredited that his fake testimony in the "Making of a Murderer" case is being used to reopen the case. The wounds on her head were consistent with raptor talons, and the scalp is a highly vascular part of the body, which when torn, easily leads to bleeding out. This is why being scalped is a fatal wound. Kathleen's unusual blood spatter and smears were consistent with fighting off a winged creature that's flailing while caught in her hair. The feathers weren't generic down pillow fill, they were owl feathers. Maybe it's easy for me to believe because I was divebombed on the head by a blue jay in a similar way when I was carrying a baby that had fallen from the nest.

@plot
My guess is the source is an attorney. Maybe at a convention?

plot said...

Could be but here's the thing. Attorneys might share gossip. They might blow off steam with one another. BUT if an attorney were to listen to the gossip and then posted it, he is putting the jobs of the gossiping attorneys at grave risk.

In this case, the theory is so ridiculous probably nothing would happen to the lawyers enty heard it from. It would sound preposterous, like the end poster was making shit up (and probably is.) I don't think something of this caliber is going to seriously impinge on anyone...but it's a bad precedent nonetheless.

NicQuerica said...

So was she still a prosecutor? If her most current employer was a cleaning company then it doesn't sound like she was still going after Peterson. And if THAT'S the case then this blind is straight up bullshit.
