Gwen strikes me as the kind of performer whom in the old days, could sell some CDs based on production and looks, and probably made more money that way than from touring. I'd think she's a rather bland stage show, and I can't imagine folks spending big to see her. So the collapse of the CD market must really have hurt her career.
Moose you're totally right. She had a great voice for ska and that scene from where she emerged, but she's not a "singer". She tries way too hard, I feel bad because she seems like a genuinely nice person. Unlike JLo, LOL.
But Blake shouldn't fucking talk - he's not a great singer either he's just lucky it flies in country music.
Gwen gets a lot of flack for her singing abilities but her early vocal stuff was pretty cool. I remember seeing her in 1994 and was blown away. But her vocals were very specific to a niche genre, and I think she also destroyed her voice in the mid-90s from a lot of vibrato-screaming.
I agree she sounds pretty terrible these days, and I can't get behind the current iteration of Gwen Stefani, but I'll always defend her early stuff.
Gwen is an absolute sweet heart .
She was never a talented singer per say.
She was a very energetic and magnetic front woman though. I will give her that.
She seemed to put heart into her performances and No Doubt was a good little band in the 90's for sure.
Most of these people can't sing for shit, they are entertainers, not real singers.
Real singers are A. Ghost writing 2. Back up vocalists or D. Not in the industry at all cuz they know it's a farce so they sing as a hobby/passion project and they teach music.
So when is the showmance going to end? Hasn't it served its purposes and be put to rest by now?
@Moose you are very incorrect. She's an incredible performer and showman, and definitely not bland. You've obviously never been to a No Doubt concert. She's not selling tickets just based on looks. She puts on a great show, even if she's not the best vocalist out there.
As far as this blind goes, not sure I buy it. If Blake really felt that way about Gwen, why did they record 2 songs together?
if being a "great vocalist" was a thing, how did Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen have careers? not saying that there aren't some amazing vocalists, but generally speaking, that's a small part of an overall package. Don't Speak is one of the best songs ever.
This is pure BS; if this is the Elvis tribute, don't be surprised if she actually is on the show and performs.
When no doubt started it was fine they were an alternative/ska band that doesn't require vocal range no doubt was awesome and fun and wrote some really good songs. No doubt wouldn't of lasted based on the direction of the industry but regardless she grew up and got used to the finer things her image changed and now the music she occasionally tries to do just doesn't work
'Cool' is one of Gwens best songs and it is a gorgeous video....just beautiful
She has also done well just because she's so creative and full of ideas.
Stefani is gorgeous and has the best PR team I've ever seen. They know exactly how to sell this woman, who she needs to hook up with, what show suits her personality ...everything. When her kids were little, the paps were called every time Stefani and her kids left the house. (Probably the same PR guys that J Garner has.)
This seems awfully mean. Why can't Gwen ever be alone without a man? Also she has a beautiful voice, "Simple Kind of Life" is beautiful. She has many other songs as well... Gavin was clearly a Himbo shithead,.
Also she is clearly a vampire, she is my age and looks amazing. Inspiring me to try and put on makeup sometimes.
I saw her in concert two years ago and she was electric, and her singing was live, but record worthy. If you don’t like her voice that’s one thing...
