I'm on the RDJ train, as much as I hate to be. My husband and I were just talking a few days ago about how believable the drug scenes seemed to be in Sherlock Holmes, and how hard it must be for a recovered addict to return to his days of addiction, even if only for pretend.

God, say it isn't so. If it's him, I will be so sad. He worked so hard for his sobriety and it was so great to see him come back from being unisurable w/a dead career to being super duper A list again. And his wife is a great person.
If it is him, it just shows you the power of the disease. As we say in The Program, "When you're inside in a meeting, your disease is outside in the parking lot doing push ups" - waiting til you're vulnerable again. I'll say a prayer...if it is...

I really do not want this to be RDJ, even if he fits the criteria. I may be wrong, but I think that if RDJ wasn't staying sober, we would know pretty fast because he seems like he wouldn't do anything in moderation.

captivagrl-I just looked up a list of A list actors in recovery and Ewan was on there...I just think that if this was true about him, it would be a lot of "meh." No one really knows much about his marriage, other than he has been seen with his arm around a co-star and I really don't think anyone even really knows he is recovering.
Michael Douglas is also in recovery. I'd much rather have this be him.

I actually don't think of Affleck as happily married. It kind of has to be RDJ. There was the pot with his son blind and another blind implying that he did some drinking after making Iron Man. And if it's true that it was a male escort, RDJ has been open about his bisexual past.

Well I, like everyone, immediatly thought of RDJ. AND, like everyone I REALLY hope it isn't him.
I don't think it is. I choose to believe it isn't. We all saw pictures of him outside letterman kissing his wife in the randoms, and I also read excerpts of his Rolling Stone interview that is coming out soon. He opens up about his drug use and other things in the past. I really think this blind is to lead us to believe it is him, but really it is someone else. PLEASE someone else...
Out of all of the lost causes in Hollywood, I had HIGH hopes for him. I have been a fan since the 80's, and I think we've all watched the ups and downs.. If this is him I'm going to have the sads in a big way...

There are tons of A list movie actors, and plenty with addictions. Doesn't have to be RDJ. Do I have another guess? Besides Affleck, no I don't - but I NEVER do with these things LOL. This SO doesn't HAVE to be RDJ, it can be many people, this is a pretty open blind (AND don't forget it's not rare for RDJ to be in the randoms, and he could be there because he's hardcore promoting his new movie.)

ok with the rest of you - thought of rdj but am hoping it is not - i love that guy! i remember seeing less than zero at 13 and falling in lust with that boy (yeah - i think i have issues too - he was a dug addicted prostitute and at 13 i reacted with YUM!).

ardleigh - russell crow - that is a good guess (i dont like him either!!) and he would be away from his wife while he is promoting that movie that no one is going to go see - and he has issues! (but it would not be to much of a shock with him - he is just soo scummy and horrible!)
When people have substance abuse problems, they often relapse -- it's a major part of the disease. When they are actively using, they aren't happy people, and their relationships suffer. Coke freaks in particular generally have linked sexuality with drug use, as have meth freaks. If Downey is using again, he's also going to be around prostitutes -- that was his using behavior before, and the using behavior returns when you use. Take it from me, a stimulant addict can't break out of their behavioral pattern of use -- it's wired into their brain.

Count me in as also hoping that it isn't RDJ, although I fear that he's the blind. Saw him on Letterman the other night (which I never watch and only stopped to view because it was RDJ on) and he was decidedly twitchy.
Russell Crowe is a great guess. Big frickin' ego and he's into threesomes and "persuading" a female on the set of his current movie to play with him and his wifey. What an honor. UGH. Much to my personal disgust he happens to be the lead in one of my very favorite movies ever, Master and Commander, and is EXCELLENT in the role of Captain Jack Aubrey, but IRL he's an all-round jerk and creep extraordinaire.

He also is on the hook for Oz, Poe and IM3. No way any major insurer would clear him for those projects if he was using. They'd be pee testing him every morning before anything was signed.
Also, the term "sober" sounds more like an alcohol problem. RDJ's primary problem was drugs. He was only nominally into alcohol (which I know is a drug, but I'm discussing terminology).
I'm for Crowe. He looks real puffy and unhealthy lately - not just age. And he gives lots of lip service to how happily he is married. RDJ looks very good lately, and I have a pretty good eye for drunks and druggies.
Also, RDJ would immediately be out of control crazy - he has stated that repeatedly. No blinds, he would be out in the open, just like in the past!
