Blind Item #6

This barely hanging on company conspired with a studio to make sure a movie was number one this past week. Apparently that is how it is going to make its money from now on.

The Meg

I think it had a lot of product placement so one of the companies pushing their products through it?

Yes I think the Meg ... which I strangely want to see based on obsession with sharks etc👀

Ophelia said...

haha Tricia I have an obsession with both sharks and megalodons too! So yeah I want to see it just for all the moments I was that kid (and adult still) running to stand under the megalodon jaws at an aquarium/museum

❤️I evened loves Orca!
Didn’t know much about megalodons(only what I saw on shark week once). Kinda really wanna see this movie..

I’m excited to see it because I love ridiculously implausible dumb movies! If this shark sheds a tear or saves its family from a meteor or crumbling skyscraper, it will be nirvana in my book!

Moviepass and the Meg

How does Moviepass conspire with a studio to make a movie #1? I don't get it.

It's fun for all us Megs this week. One day I was talking with my kid about computer speed, "it's 100 megs." Hubby overheard and muttered " 100 megs? I can't handle the one I got. ". The movie is what I expected: A SyFy flick with a bigger budget.

Moviepass was the distributor for the Gotti movie and couldn't get that out of the basement. The Meg was #1 by $25 million. Moviepass isn't that big a factor.

So then there's a chance for Katy Perry's "dancing left" shark bio pic! People love sharks, and on stage disasters!

warner bros, co-production with china on The Meg
moviepass im sure did something w/regard to this ?
china owns almost all of AMC theatres also

Moviepass is now blacking out certain showtimes and movies altogether and making others available. For example MI was not available to see. No restrictions on Meg.

How does anyone conspire to make a movie number one, unless they buy large quantities of tickets? And even then, the sold-out empty theaters would be a dead giveaway. I am calling bullshit on this blind

I saw it with the kids and my nieces and nephews- everyone loved it.

The book it is based on, by Steve Alten, was actually pretty good--and seemed somewhat more plausible than the movie, up until the later stages LOL.

I kind of want to see it because of Rainn Wilson. I just realized I liked him after seeing "Super" about 6 months ago (before the Gunn stuff came out), so started watching The Office and went through the entire series in about two weeks.

I read the book about a decade ago when I found it in a quarter bin at a book store but for the life of me I can't remember a damn thing about it.

You're not gonna like Rainn Wilson anymore after you watch this and read his pedo tweets, I figure:

Okay, so this is what they were talking about yesterday.

To add insult to injury, there is this: check your credit cards kids.

When I read this, I thought it might be about Crazy Rich Asians. Lots of questionable money laundering activity
amongst this Mainland group.

Moviepass and The Meg. Moviepass is swirling down the drain with its stock trading for pennies a share. They blacked out all but 2 movies last week, so people were forced to go see The Meg or not go to the movie with their paid for Moviepass. Interesting strategy, but it can't go on like that. Still, if it gets them a little cash, it keeps them going for another week until the next cash crisis.
