Blind Item #1

Management of this streaming service is telling investors they will pay anything for a reboot not just for Friends, but they’re trying The Office, Frasier, Parks and Rec, and others. They know that if they don't do something in the next year or two, their viewership will be cut in half and the subscribers too when all those listed shows will be gone.

Another Netflix scare story? I'd worry more about all the Korean, Bollywood and foreign language shit they are "recommending" for me because I watched Archer or Always Sunny.

If I can't speak it, I won't fucking watch it. It's getting tether ending time soon.

I NEED A PARKS AND REC REBOOT.

Sunspirit said...

They shouldn’t of cancelled One Day at a Time

Scandi Sanskrit said...

LEAVE “FRASIER” ALONE

Astra Worthington said...

Just keep showing the original shows. How would they even reboot any of those shows? With completely different casts? That’s asinine. All a lot of people want, is to see old shows. Why can’t they do that??

Anonymous said...

parks and rec would be easy to reboot. & a lot of the cast has said they would be down to do it.

Flashy Vic said...

@Astra.

Because the evil mouse empire and a lot of the few remaining US media outlets not yet devoured by the Stalinist mouse, are setting up their own streaming services and not renewing their contracts with Netflix that allow Netflix to show their shows. It leaves Netflix with just their own content (which is variable, to say the least, some of it really good, the rest dogshit bad) and is not, at the minute, producing their own content at a rate to fill their catalogue. Which leaves just the foreign language garbage.

Flashy Vic said...

Strike all that. Just watched this minute the brand new just released trailer for Stranger Things 3.

And I've got a solid chub on. But not in a paedo way. They've got me till July at least.

I'm willing to pay £8 a month for Netflix

I'm not willing to pay £8 a month for Netflix, £8 a month for Amazon Prime, plus £8 whatever month for Disneyflix. And I can't be the only one who thinks that

>Which leaves just the foreign language garbage.

I actually prefer that stuff. I like the manga and the weird FL films.

I'm enjoying Transferts (french Altered Carbon esque) on Netflix with subtitles. I'm a bit deaf so I'm used to reading all the time anyways!

DavidHowesCREBroker said...

They should offer a "Lifetime Subscription!"
Like Sirius did years ago.

Then, abruptly cancel the subscriptions because the lifetime canceled.

Exactly, Jim.

Rosemary Young said...

I told my son that foreign films aren't popular in America because our audiences don't like to read subtitles and he said, "Are people that lazy?"
He's 10.

Troy Dyer said...

I’m with ya Jim
The $8 a month is that bad, and Amazon Prime is included in the membership, but for me it’s being like “is this show on Hulu, Netflix, AP, Disneyflix, CBS All access, NBC app only (I’m looking at you dateline?”

Troy Dyer said...

*isn’t that bad

Marlin said...

Thats exactly whenmincancelled

@Jim

right? i currently have Netflix and Hulu. i also have HBO with Xfinity. i want to cut the cord but i can't find a streaming service that has Animal Planet. and i can't not have Animal Planet. seriously. my cat watches it and i leave it on when i'm at work. when i had my dog, she watched it too.

Huckleberry said...

Yeah, I think they're in trouble. I read somewhere that the average consumer doesn't want to pay for more than 3 streaming subscriptions (which is right about where I am) and you know Disney is going to grab a lot of those people.

I have anythung that free, cable us another ripoff

can't....anyone....create.....anything.......new

Scandi Sanskrit said...

I’d prioritise your cat too since your cat stays at home watching it while you work.

I tried creating something new on AO3 and it only got 5 clicks (3 of them were mine).

Flashy Vic said...

@Scandi.

If I knew what the fuck AI3 is I would click and bring you up to the magic half dozen.

Flashy Vic said...

A03, obviously. weary resigned sigh

Vita said...

Scandi-- i dont even know what AO3 is, but if you mentioned it here, I'd figure it out! Tell us some details!😁

Unknown said...

I have a tendency to multitask and do other things around the house while having a show on, but I can't watch subtitled shows that way. So not lazy, just can't sit still for long.

AO3 = Archive Of Our Own, a place for writers to post their own stories.

Bring back Filmstruck.

Hopefully, new Criterion Channel will include lots of old movies outside their own holdings.

Watching a remake is like eating decades old leftovers, yum, I do love the taste of freezer burn on reheated tired old ideas. Netflix needs to find the right side of their brain, let go of their preconceptions & dive head first into the unknown.

J said...

We need more remakes/reboots like Ghostbusters and Ocean's 8.

Those were masterpieces.

Jon said...

I need a reboot of Flava of Love or Rock of Love.

I yam what I yam said...

Netflix.
Cancelled them when they left that movie up that started with a little girl having orgasm. No pedo shit please.

They're not going anywhere. That is wishful thinking.

Netflix is fine. They were greedy for a long time and pretty much had a monopoly on streaming service. Disney got tired of sharing their stuff with them and Stars when they have a huge stake in Hulu, so they're creating their own streaming service for their stuff and divvying other products to Hulu instead. How is that a bad platform business wise? Disney can control the content on their streaming service and how it's accessed, which they couldn't do on Netflix or Starz. Further, the Disney streaming service will pretty much have instant access to all of their movies and such (save for Song of the South and some others - which is a shame, since I love Song of the South for the original music and story line).

I actually wish Netflix would look at offering *more* streaming stuff from around the world. And I hate that they remove access to certain shows and movies because they cycle through their products. The fact that they are limited to their foreign products means that I pay more for Brit Box, PBS Masterpiece Theatre, and Acorn so my mum and I can watch our British shows. If Netflix was smart, they would find a way to stream shows and allow folks to look for content based upon the country of origin. Because there are a lot of great Turkish pieces that we barely get access to (*cough*MagnificentEmpire*cough*).

Who watches that dogsh!t now? Those shows were funny when they came out, but they didn't exactly age well.
I subscribe to Netflix for their original content, not reruns I could get on any other streamers or box office movies I would have rented earlier if I gave a sh!t about watching them.
We'll see how Disney+ does, I have a feeling it's going to be very family friendly and not adult oriented. Not much cussing, nudity, sex, gore, horror etc, it'll be like ABC without commercials.
Prime has a few years before they can compete with anyone. Their last team f*cked them with all that lame art house sh!t which brings in no new viewers.
CBS All Access seems like it's waiting to get bought by somebody else. The Orville is far superior to Star Trek Discovery.
Maybe AT&T can remind HBO that she's just another working girl, not a courtesan, and that when GoT is gone nobody is going to pay for her wares unless she increases her offerings.

BayAreaGirl said...

Even if Netflix loses subscribers, they're not going to disappear. They have a captive audience with their children's content like the Magic School Bus reboot. My kids and their friends love that crap. We adults also watch their original content.

They shouldn't have cancelled One Day at a Time. There is no such phrase as "shouldn't of" dear GOD.

But you're right. One Day at a Time is fabulous but they cancel that and have a new Amy Schumer special. They are so freaking stupid over there.

Vita said...

Thanks, LowKey!

filmfanb said...

i cant imagine the cost of a friends reboot

BayAreaGirl said...

Maybe they can do a Firefly reboot? It could work.

GentleBreeze said...

Oh lord, I used to watch Flava and Rock of love. Now I get my trash from the internet.
My must have channel is TCM. With my hearing, I need subtitles(CC) on or I miss so much.

Jeweled Skye said...

GAH! I already pay $100/mo for cable - with NO premium channels.. I pay for Netflix and Prime and I cannot bring myself to pay for whatever it is that has The Good Fight on it as well as all of the other new shows being promoted that sound interesting... yet, they're on custom channels that I do not care to add.... or pay to add. I've been a netflix subscriber from way way back with the 3 DVDs at a time, make your list, send one or all back, get next on list... I hate that the older movies are no longer available.. They used to be the 'go to' for any movie from any era... I watched some excellent, yet very obscure movies with netflix and I can't ever reference them because I cannot suggest anyone watching them because they no longer exist.

Angela said...

Friends is a very poor example. Netflix can keep the rights to the show partly because they work with Marta Kauffman on Grace and Frankie. That puts them in a better position to negotiate.

Reboots suck. Cable is the worst a million channels of the same shit. I've watched enough ID to never get caught. Fucking Oprah channel how narcissistic. Every radio show is on television now. Wtf

Also BTW why do animal shelters get so uppity?

Scandi Sanskrit said...

What happened at the animal shelters?

Scandi Sanskrit said...

Criterion of the fancy-pants DVD boxes?!

I had no idea they had a channel? I wish I had that!!!!

Am i the only one who hasn’t fallen for Netflix yet? I’ve never had a subscription. I had a MUBI subscription for a while, and then I had iFlix (just to watch “Downton Abbey”).

The last subscription i signed up for was GrabFood LOL. I’m so cultured. 🍴😂🤣😭

TIP: If Netflix keeps suggesting foreign-language programs for no reason, your account might have been hacked. Change your password. Also if you access your account via the web, you can see where your account is being viewed from.

I have a streaming service that has AP and 7000 other channels for $39 a month!

I don't mind the foreign suggestions. I binge-watched Dark. German, with English subtitles. Deals with parallel universes from 3 different times. Normally, I don't like movies or shows like that, but I did watch Castle Rock and liked it, and I like Dark more than Castle Rock.
