Never seen an episode of Dr. Who, don't know anyone who watches it. Trying very hard not to make a snarky "you Brits" comment right now. ;)
Maybe because I don't watch Dr. Who, I thought of Benedict Cumberbatch (playing the TV version of Sherlock Holmes). I know he's married, so he has a wife not a significant other, but it's a thought.
JL Regarding the pay discrepancy between Smith and Claire Foy on The Crown. Matt was a well known actor coming off a successful run of Doctor Who. No one had heard of Claire Foy. He was probably initially more of a draw than she was even if she played the main character. It happens all the time. For instance I'm sure Damon Wayans was paid much more than Clayne Crawford in the Lethal Weapon tv show even though his Martin Riggs character(played by Mel Gibson in the original movie) was supposed to be the focus of the show

I just want to go on the record: I've never seen Dr. Who. I do not think that Cumberbatch guy is hot.

I liked the Tennant years, but after he left/was replaced, heard he was a hound dog and cad with women.
One thing in particular was he was dating multiple women at once while on Who, and none of them knew about it. (They had all appeared on the show; including at least one co-star.)
His ancestor was a member of the William Of Orange society, wore the orange arm band and all. To the UK that's approximate, supposedly, to the KKK in the USA, only with religion, not race.
Benedict C's mom was Mary Jane on Dr. Who, looong time ago.
I also have never seen Dr. Who and do not find Cumberbatch the least bit attractive.
Dungeons and dragons, role play geeks watch Dr. Who. Nerds, every one of them.
