Blind Item #5 - Reader Blind

This deceased producer ruled TV for a couple of decades. The shows he made were primarily detective/crime related and were known for their highly stylized credits.

He also was known in some circles for his large number of homemade films of nude underage girls which he shared withe friends and colleagues.  His power over careers gave him access to these young girls.

Case in point is the story of this actor who was the title character in a show not produced by the producer but made in the same style. The producers of this show were the company started by the trailblazing husband and wife acting team.  The wife had had a relationship with the actor a number of years before.

After a good long run, the actor’s show was canceled but not because of ratings.  The actor was desperate to get another show as this TV show was the most successful thing he had done in his career.

He approached the producer who first asked the actor to find him a subject for his nude films.  The actor had a sibling with a daughter who was a cheerleader and was attractive. Eventually, it was worked out and the niece of the actor did the filming and even slept with the producer.  The actor did get another show produced by someone else but it only lasted one season.

Quinn Martin is a good guess, have to be a little more cautious about the actor, too many to choose.

Quin Martin and his wife at one time worked for Desilu. Desilu produced Untouchables with Stack who later worked with QM on Most Wanted, which lasted a season. but Elliot Ness is not a "title character". did stack have an affair with Lucy? it's close, but no cigar, I dont think.

BTW Don Johnson says he is rebooting Nash Bridges with Cheech Marin on USA

Robert Stack was in a Quinn-Martin produced show called "Most Wanted", which ran for a season in 1976.

The blind is tricky because it's written like he got the show a immediately after the Untouchables ended.

Hugh O’Brien, Wyatt Earp for Desilu productions. Had a youth charity, married a woman 50 years younger. Wyatt Earp was a hit with a 6 year run.was on LA law.

William Conrad "Cannon" for 1971-1976 and Nero Wolfe 1981 lasted one season?

Quin Martin shows ended with the arm and hammer slamming down to make an impression on a brass plate

Mike Connors for the actor? Mannix (initially a Desilu production) and Today's FBI which looks like it had one season.

Alf Landon said...

Mannix was cancelled due to a dispute between Paramount and CBS not ratings

I think Stephen J Cannell as well. Show was possibly MacGuyver? Produced by CBS TV, which includes DesiLu., RDA has brothers, and starred in the show Legend.

Aaron Spelling (ew) Robert Wagner (Hart to Hart) Lime Street was only on the air 1 year (1985)

Richard Dean Anderson had an affair with Lucille Ball? That's an interesting combo.

That was Jack Webb/Mark VII.

From Wikipedia in re MacGuyver: “When asked why the series was cancelled, Anderson replied: "The only reason it went off the air was that everybody was ready to move on. I was physically exhausted and had no life.’’ Don’t know about the niece.

Age difference is 39 years, so based on that it wouldn’t be my first thought, either, but the rest seems to work well enough. If I’m wrong, c’est la vie. Won’t be the last time.

I think the trailblazers have to be Lucy and desi. therefore the lynchpin is what star had a hit show where he played the title character AND had once had an affair with LUCY.
stack - not title character but rest is possible
Conrad - title character; one season series? yes; affair? no way
Connors - title character; one season series? yes; affair? certainly possible, only 14 yrs her junior.

quin martin for the pedo producer

Connors had a large armenian family.

"Connors was able to work with his boss Lucille Ball on-screen during a cross-promotion episode of her Here's Lucy series in 1971. The episode, which opened Lucy's fourth season, is titled "Lucy and Mannix are Held Hostage". This was notable as the first episode shot at Universal Studios, after Ball ceased producing her program at Paramount Studios."[1]

ding-ding-ding!!! Robyn s for the win. good work.

Quinn Martin shows did have the unique "Act I," "Act II" and so on graphics for each of the four show segments. His name was always after the title in the opening credits, and the credits had sophisticated graphics. Also, the credits were narrated.

Probably should be looking at Jack Webb as the pedo-producer. However, the actor got a new show with another producer, not the pedo (unless through his assistance.

Quinn-Martin shows had stylized credits in the sense that each opening showed a clip of each of the show's stars and episode guest stars. Also, Quinn Martin was married to Madelyn Pugh, head writer of I Love Lucy; and also one Marianne "Muffet" Webb, who may be related to Jack Webb (can't find more info).
