What Did You Do With The Rest Of The Money?

Look, I know firsthand the pain of having to go after a former client for money owed. It happens and it is a part of life and business. However, I know, or like to think I know myself well enough to know that I would just let this money go. Lisa Kudrow is being sued by her former manager for money he says she owes him. Fair enough, but lets continue. He is suing her for money she owes him which she earned after firing him. Sounds horrific, but that is what we do here. If a manager is your manager when you sign that Friends deal and then you fire him, you are still going to owe him commissions on that money. My problem with her manager is this. He is suing Lisa for $50,000. $50,000 is nothing.

Scott Howard became Lisa's manager back in 1991 right before Friends hit. He was earning 10% commission at the time and kept earning 10% until the 10th year of Friends. At that point he agreed to lower it to 5%. By that time Lisa was getting $1M an episode like the rest of the cast, and last I checked there were about 26 episodes or so a year. So, 10% of $26M is $1.3M and that was for one year. I figure over the entire course of Friends he probably made $5M-$6M off of Lisa Kudrow for basically nothing. Lets face it. He helped her get on Friends but he wasn't the reason it was a hit. So, to come back after you have made all of these millions and then sue for $50,000 is an ass move. Yes, he will probably win, but it is still an ass move. Eat the $50,000 and move on with your life.

What about Lisa for yesterday's blind item?

"$50,00 is nothing."

That's it, I'm moving to a socialist country. This one is seriously fucked up.

Crap, the legal fees will cost more than what he's asking. Hopefully, the judge will dismiss the case.

Dear Enty,

Hi. How are you? Ernestine here. Could you please cut me a check for 50 grand? I could SURE use that money right now. I drive a Ford Escort, my car insurance is due, I'm currently job hunting, and I'm a grad student. Oh, and my summer tuition bill is due next week. Fuck.

Love,

Ernestine

With 50,000 dollars I could pay for some of my medical bills. Maybe find doctor number 4 to finally get me walking again. Maybe help a little with my college expenses. Help my mom out and take care of her for a change.

I don't know.
But 50,000 dollars could sure change my life.

Sorry Ent, gotta agree with the rest of the readers. $50,000 is more than I make in a year so it is certainly not "nothing" to me! Does this manager have any other big clients he's making millions off of? If not, I'm guessing he needs the $50k just like the rest of us would.

For the record, I wasn't pissed at Enty, just at our fucked up class system. :)

Oh, I'm not pissed at Enty. I'd ask Oprah the same thing! Except I'd up the begging price to, maybe, 100 grand. Or just a million.

Besides, we all know that Enty lives in his mother's basement. He doesn't have tons of money to toss at us!

To you, maybe; but for me, it would change my life.

Also, I trust that if Enty had an extra $50,000 lying around, he would give it to a very worthy charity. I know he was saying $50,000 is nothing to the greedy manager.

PunkiMeowMeow said...

Nothing to the greedy manager but that would pay off my student loan!!

for me it's really just pennies in a bucket compared to my vast wealth accumulated over the years from bloggin, eating pizza and watching bad reality tv.

"Jeeves, cut that good women a cheque! oh and throw an extra zero on for shits and giggles"

put this into perspective people...50k is HUGE to me and you....NOT to someone who has already made 5-6mil...

There's something else going on here. It isn't about 50K.

Lawsuits are public record and he would have known word would get out.

He's probably bitch-slapping her for a diss or something. She does have a lousy reputation... me thinks the lawsuit is personal, not business.

So 'stars' shouldn't have to pay their bills if it's under a random, pre-determined number? Hell, I was raised you PAID YOUR BILLS! Having millions is no excuse for NOT paying your bills. If the guy did the work, she pays, I don't give a wank if it's $5, $50000, or $50000000! She owes the bill, pretty simple imo.

Maybe it's a SoCal thing. I gotta go with Ent on this one. $50,000 isn't worth the effort. Eat it and move on with your life.

If we agree that $50,000 is nothing and Lisa was making $1m an episode then she should just pay it.

i get what enty's saying and i agree with califblondy, i think we get used to the big numbers being thrown around out here. yeah, 50 grand would be great, i could pay off both the prius and my new roadster.
but let's face it, between these two it IS nothing.

settle out of court. that takes the wind out his sails and she pays the bill. pffft.
