Four Queens - Las Vegas - $29/night!

Knights Inn near the airport in Philadelphia about $60. Don't know if it's still there this was a long time ago.

Does by the hour count?

The bungalow I stayed at in Thailand was roughly $8/night back in 2005. I had to use a high-powered hose to "flush" the toilet, but it wasn't bad once you got used to it. The food was unbelievable, and the other guests were quite friendly.

@Sandybrook - the Knights Inn is still open, though nowadays it pretty much has a reputation as a by-the-hour operation.

What about rooms on yachts, do those count?

Lucky's near Blackstone, VA, back in 86?87? $20 for a night rat poison under the beds, scuzzy as hell, front door and bathroom door were swapped, because there were bullet holes in the original front door.

The next night my pop drove 45min away & spent $90 to stay at HoJo's. I was amazed he went that deep into his pocket.

One night at the Honeymoon Suite, the 231 Plaza Inn, Lebanon, TN - 1979. If it cost more than $40 I'd be shocked. And it WAS for my honeymoon, lol.

Years ago you could stay at a Motel 6 for 20 bucks a night in IL, Bloomington/Normal area.

Roatan, an Island off of Honduras. I had a bungalow facing the water & I was in the first bungalow so had a perfect water view. I also had a little patio with a hammock, and they’d deliver your breakfast every morning and just knock on your door so you’d know it was there. I think it was about $36/night.

Sadly, I was in Roatan a few years ago just for the day. It’s much more developed now. I wanted to find this little place that had brought me so much joy—I did, and it had turned into a total dump.

Some hostel in London over booked and I couldnt stay so they let me sleep on the floor in the bar for free

Thanks Moose it wasn't much better back then either.

Oh crap - misread the question! $25 in Merida, Mexico. Not on purpose tho - had to replace passport that was stolen, drove there pre-cell phone days and all hotels were sold out due to some convention. Was happy to have and it amenities reflected the price but was thrilled to get it!

Mexico City 1987. Ran low on cash while staying in $12 nightly hotel, so dragged luggage down street to a $5.80 nightly hotel.

Motel in Wilmington CA, rented it by the hour. It had a painting of a clown head on the floor next to the bed. Only used the room for two hours.

Free. From my years of business travel I gained several million hotel points. The last thing I want to do on my off time is fly/travel. So the points just keep adding up. After retirement I have traveled a bit. And I have not paid a penny for my hotel rooms.

Motel 6 in Memphis TN. Stopped with two girlfriends on the way back from NOLA. It was so disgusting I slept in the bathtub.

Friendship Inn, which I think is now owned by Motel 6, $15/night in Arlington, VA. It was such a rat hole. I think I was the only non-prostitute there. But on the upside, they had the best vending machine ever.

Unknown beat me to it. My decade of biz travel has allowed me to take vacations using the miles/points I’ve built up and not sacrifice the high standards my better half has.

$10 per night in a horrible hotel in Madrid. I had no idea that my (now-ex husband) had a) driven down to Madrid to pick me up from the airport, late, b) had no money, and c) that he found this room, stinking of urine, to be acceptable! I would rather have slept in the car. That was in 1986.

I've sold a lot of those down & dirty motels in Las Vegas, @AngelSleuth.

And I help Terry Caudil Buy Binions a a dozen or so years back.

I have three listed if anyone dares to buy a Las Vegas area income producing motel!

(I wonder: Would Nicholas Cage would be interested?)
One is near the Palomino Club on North Las Vegas Blvd!

$17/night which included free breakfasts at the Days Inn near the Disney World gates. This was in 1980 when I took my son to WDW for the first time. His grandmother had booked us at the Contemporary but I figured switching to the DI gave me more money to do fun stuff with him. Maman was fine with it. My son went nuts buying souvenirs and sea shells.
Thanks for reminding me about this wnderful trip,

$23 a night at Bally's, plus $35 "resort fee" a night. Still pretty cheap! Otherwise, there was one place about ten years ago that was $30 a night, on the side of the road somewhere in northwestern Ontario...no idea what it was called, but there was a big sign outside saying that they sold bait and to this day I refer to it as the Bates Motel. :)

About 1986 in Puerta Vallarta. Got a room with the bf for $5. Damn roosters at 4 am and hacking from other rooms drove us out of there. Got a nice place after that. $20/night

Redcaz said...

Less than $5 . Not a fair question as I have lived in S.E. Asia for 10+ years. Last hotel was $15 in Saigon two weeks ago. 2 stat, clean with a/c

Motel 8 in Las Vegas. $20 and close to the vending machine. This was 15 years ago

8 Dollars for the night, many years ago, The Cadillac motel , 4 of us staying in the room, they gave us 2 towels and you had to run around to get wet in the shower. We were there for a blues fest (Florida) and had a fantastic time even if the hotel wasn't that great.

We used to stay in Buffalo really, really cheap. I know it was less than 10 bucks.

Definitely been in a Motel 6 for 30-something a night, probably 10 or 15 years ago. Also remember staying in a super nice boutique hotel in Montreal for about $40 in 2002.

Are nicer chain hotels the only ones that charge those exorbitant ass "resort fees" which in addition to the nightly rate are more in line with what you actually pay. To be old enough to remember life before that scam.

Ah, yes! The beauties and the vagaries of traveling outside Christendom in one's youth.

Next topic, please! I've developed a sympathetic itch for my younger self.

Oh dear. I've just recalled a journey made with an old friend. One room, two single beds, one flip of the coin--and one bottle of Calamine lotion for the loser--my friend--when we awoke that first morn.

He was covered in...

We checked out, and left the island for another, hoping for better hygiene.

What was the question? Oh! The price. Of course. The price was "20-something cheap."
